Hillside log home in Pittsfield 7 miles from Killington base and Pico ski areas
About this house rental
“The Owl’s Nest” is centrally located in the heart of the Green Mountains in the town of Pittsfield, close to several world class ski resorts, the historic towns of Middlebury, and Woodstock, called America’s prettiest town, and just a few hours drive from Montreal, Boston or New York City. The Owl’s Nest is a beautiful log home that sits on 11 wooded acres in ski country just 7 miles from Killington’s K-1 base lodge or from Pico Mountain ski area. The warm and inviting great room is comfortably furnished and features a cathedral ceiling, an oversized fieldstone fireplace and exposed log posts and beams. Its two sets of oversized sliding doors lead onto a sunny south facing deck. Living, dining and kitchen are open architecture so you can all be together. On the main floor there are two bedrooms - one with a queen size bed and one with two twin beds. The spacious bath on the main floor has a tub with shower. Upstairs are a master suite and a loft, currently used as an office space, overlooking the great room. (There’s a double size futon that can be moved into the master for little ones that want to be near mom and dad.) The master bedroom has a queen size bed and en-suite with separate shower and sky-lit jetted tub. The walk out basement is a family/ recreation room with a regulation size pool table and a dart board. (We are working on getting the non-working woodstove replaced.) There’s also a large bonus room with two child size bunk beds. The large, tiled bath has a shower. The basement level has a utility room with instructions for using the new washer and dryer if you’re staying longer term. There is generous closet space throughout the house. The house may not be appropriate for unsupervised young children. The Owl’s Nest well equipped kitchen has all the basics you need, plus an island, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, coffee grinder, toaster and blender. The large wrap around deck is covered on the east side. The house faces south and the southerly facing deck is about 12 feet deep with a large teak table that seats 6-8 people comfortably. Great for dining outside under the table’s umbrella in summer. Guests in excess of 6 people will receive an additional cleaning fee per person. Pittsfield is a small village nestled between Stockbridge and Killington. The center of the town of Pittsfield is just 2 miles from the house. The general store has a good deli, basic groceries, Vermont themed gifts, good wine and beer selections, and tables where you can have a great breakfast or lunch. Across the street are a small grocer that also has a good deli and sandwiches, a gas station, and post office. Although a local favorite, the Clear River Tavern has closed, it has been replaced by a great Southern style restaurant, The Toasted Pecan. The Owl’s Nest is 8/10 mile off Rte #100 and accessible from Rte #89 or Rte #4. The road is steep in places, as is our driveway. The house is best reached with AWD/4-wheel drive in winter and snow tires are a must! Weather in Vermont can be unpredictable, so please be prepared. Please read the directions to the house carefully as they contain landmarks to help you find the house. If you arrive after dark, there are no streetlights to guide you. Please note: We have a cat who is in residence with us when we are in the house. All of the bedrooms have wall-to-wall carpet. If you have allergies, we may not be the right fit for you.futon that can be moved into the master

Enjoyed our stay at the cabin. Great distance from Killington.

We frequent Vermont during the winter and this was definitely one of the best properties that we have stayed at. Amazing views and so much larger than it looked on VRBO.

This house was everything we needed for a perfect ski weekend. Cozy, comfortable, well-maintained, and the owners were responsive and so easy to work with.

Our large group had a fantastic New Year’s stay at Owl’s Nest. The property is a quintessential, mountainside New England log cabin with everything you need for kids and adults to have a blast in the same space — beautiful forrest view from open kitchen and expansive deck, broad and warm stone hearth, gorgeous billiards table, darts, movies, reading area, and of course just a few minutes to excellent skiing at Killington and Pico. Highly recommend the property, particularly given the value.

Anne's home is beautiful. It's comfortable and cozy and has a quintessential Vermont woodsy vibe. The location is great and so convenient. It's a short 10 minute drive to Killington. It's tucked away from the touristy stuff but close enough to get to it quickly. The owner was so accommodating, informative and replied promptly to any questions. Overall it was a great experience. Thank you Anne for sharing such a lovely home.

House was absolutely stunning! Very happy with our stay! Anne made sure we are comfortable and pleased with our stay. Will always come back to make beautiful memories with my family!

The owner, Anne is so friendly and responds quickly to any questions. She also send a lot of great and detailed suggestions to see nearby the house ( name, tel. Number and directions). The house is beautiful, clean and made out of wood. Bedrooms are big with big closets. There are 3 floors, each floor has bathroom with clean towels. Living room is very cozy and kitchen has a lot of pots, plates, glasses etc. There is a beautiful deck around the house. Definitely best host and best house I have rented so far.

I have been a renter of many properties around Killington, usually very close to the resort. Prices there have climbed dramatically over the last couple of years. Pittsfield is right down the road from Killington and represents a great choice at a very reasonable price. We had a great stay and Anne was always easy to communicate with. Property is accurately advertised.

The house is beautiful with short drive to the Killington skiing. Anne is a great host, she responded immediately to all our questions and provided a lot of information about the activities in the area. Definitely will be back. Thank you for the red wine :)

Where do I begin. Me and my group of friends traveled 5 hours for what we thought was gonna be a great weekend but instead we ended up stuck because of how careless the homeowner was.
First off it snowed a lot that weekend. Anne(the homeowner) told us she will alert her plow guy to plow the driveway so we can drive up it and have easy access into the home. After our 5 hour drive we show up to a house that has about 12-15 inches of snow stretched about 50 feet uphill. We were all in shock and we have no idea what to do. There was no service in the area. We drive about 4-5 miles and got a hold of Anne and all she could do is let us know that we somehow have to get in the driveway and couldn’t be on the main road. She said she was “trying” to figure it out. Hours pass by and we’re waiting waiting waiting and no one comes so we found shovels and started cleaning it ourselves. I’m letting Anne know that this is all happening and all she can say is “let me know” but in reality we’re waiting for a plower come clean this up.
We spent about 4-5 hours trying to make it up the driveway where all the trucks that come got stuck and we had to dig them out. Some have check engine lights on after all this hassle. After I approached her about all this the first night she said was she had someone coming to clean it. It was about 8:30pm and the guy finally came and ONLY PLOWED WHAT WE ALREADY SHOVELED then left. He said he didn’t have tire chains and couldn’t help us until the morning.
The first night WE SAW ABOUT 17 DEAD FLIES ALL OVER THE PROPERTY. I took pictures of everything that we noticed in the house.
The next day comes around and we wake up early to hit the slopes and we’re outside the door around 8:30 to see the driveway is not PLOWED. I call here and tell her this is not acceptable because we paid money to stay here and the ACCESSIBILITY IS NOT ACCESSIBLE. So we take matters into our own hands because we paid for lift tickets that we’re non-refundable. As weee trying to get out of the drive away, two trucks get stuck and we’re stuck digging them out for about 3 hours. Our buddies had to go the the hardware store and buy $100 worth of supplies to get us out of the snow.
ALSO, No heat in the house & No working phone
The homeowner was aware of all of this and DID NOT CARE. We asked for a refund for the house and the supplies and they refused too. Got to the point where I had to get legal advice.
Zero sympathy for their guests.

Hi,
Although Mother Nature didn’t cooperate, the house was perfect!
Communication was seamless, cleanliness was on point!
This was a short ride to the mountain, would definitely start there again!

Our group of 4 adults and 4 young kids came in February for four nights to ski at Killington, and got a great dump of fresh snow halfway through the trip. The house is great: well laid out, cozy log cabin feeling (* see caveat below), good wood-burning fireplace, nicely furnished, workable kitchen, everything just as listed. It is a wonderful place to spend the day in the winter, as the south wall of double-height windows pick up amazing sun in the main room.
The property is also quite beautiful, we took a short walk in the snowy woods behind the house, and our kids played for hours with the sled on the lawn next to the house. The view onto the hill/mountain opposite is beautiful also -- mostly trees in every direction (and just the neighboring houses).
Two minor issues that we worked around without difficulty were:
1. The cold -- the wood stove in the cellar was not working when we were there, so the house was a bit chilly when it was below freezing out. The beds and blankets are all super warm, no issue there, we just had to wear a couple of layers in the main living room. With sunlight this went away due to aforementioned double-height windows.
2. The railings for the stair and loft are not child safe at the moment. Our 4-year-olds were fine, we just had to warn them away from the edge a couple of times. But I understand the owner will be working on these regardless.

This is how you Vermont
It was perfect! A short 10ish minute drive from Killington and Pico (our fave) we made first chair all weekend. The large finished walk out basement was perfect for dropping bags, drying boots and leaving the kids to hangout around the pool table/tv/darts outside their bunk room -plus their own bathroom. The floor to ceiling stone fireplace upstairs was cozy and easy to light. A huge wraparound couch with lots of windows and pizza from town 2 miles away, best Après ever! Thanks for the red wine too! Tasted even better in the jacuzzi tub under the sky light after dinner! Hope to stay here annually!

My family spent 5 nights at the Owl's Nest. Anne is an amazing host. She went out of her way to ensure everything was to our liking. Check-in was easy. The house was clean, well stocked and in great condition. We had a little trouble with the heat due to the super cold deep freeze we got, but Anne was on it before we could even reach out and more than accommodating to help us figure it out - which we did. :)
Would highly recommend Anne as a host as well as this property! We hope to come back again soon!

Spacious House lots of Amenities!
My friends and I were pleasantly surprised with our stay at the Owls Nest. The large common area is great for lounging around, sitting by the fireplace, and playing board games. The pool table is a nice amenity for those who fancy a game of billiards. The location feels remote, but is a short (16 min) drive to Killington Resort. We also had a great time at the Clear River Tavern, which is located very close to the house (5min). We definitely would stay again for another ski weekend!
