About this house rental

Nestled in Cayuga Lake, this lovely house for $2,705 per night is a fantastic choice for your next trip. Located in the heart of the Finger Lakes about 30 minutes from Ithaca, the Cayuga Shoreline is the perfect lakeside vacation retreat for groups. The main house and 4 cottages sleep up to 30, and the space is flexible, comfortable, and beautiful. The property was thoughtfully renovated in 2021 and has all the best parts of lake life right on site: docks, lake access, fire pits, kayaks, canoes, SUPs, and the best sunrises ever, just off the wine trail. The neighborhood is great! The street is mostly residential, though there’s a family friendly restaurant and bar called O’Malley’s within walking distance. It’s a wonderful neighborhood to walk or ride bikes, and there are usually lots of other people on vacation or wine tours in the area. You’ll probably count more people on foot, bikes, golf carts, or horseback than cars! Right up the street is Sheldrake Point Winery, which is home to the region’s favorite rosé, and the property is just off the Cayuga Lake wine trail, which includes the Finger Lakes Cider House, Thirsty Owl, Hosmer, the new Liquid State North Shore, Cayuga Ridge, Lucas, Buttonwood, Toro Run, and many others. Everything Ithaca has to offer is a beautiful 30 minute ride, and the Seneca Lake wine trail is just a short 20 minute drive through Amish farm country.

We had a family wedding nearby at The Inn at Taughannock Falls so the property was perfect to house 14 of us. The property: A big farmhouse with open kitchen and family room and 3 bedrooms plus another 4 housekeeping cottages on the lake. We were all very pleased with the view and people fought over which cottage they got—they loved being close to the water. Weather prevented us from enjoying the fire pit but we cooked a big family meal in the kitchen and were comfy in all the bedrooms with big white comforters and lots of white fluffy towels in every bed and bath. Nicely outfitted. We had lunch at the nearby O’Malley’s and explored a couple wine/cider establishments as well. Be sure to try Creekside Cafe for a wonderful breakfast. Loved the area and the Inn was a lovely venue for the family wedding. Joe’s place is perfect—you will love the setting on the lake!

I have been debating sharing this review but after a month and a half of thought, I think it's the prudent thing to do. We hosted a family reunion the week of July 4th with my extended family. It was 20 of us and ages ranged from 4 to 70. While overall we enjoyed our stay because of family and the beautiful lake, I will say that the property did leave a lot to be desired which was a bummer for sure. Given the cost for the week, we truly expected more. Upon arrival, we were really surprised by the following: - the main lawn was fully covered in goose poop. We had little kids and the property is on a somewhat busy road so we needed a place for them to run around...very hard to do when covered in poop. - the two grills offered were both broken upon arrival - there were some super cute bikes but one of them had a flat tire - the outdoor refrigerator was absolutely covered in bugs - the inside of the fridge! That was an interesting discovery once we opened it - the outdoor equipment (kayak and canoe) were not prepared for use, filled with water and dirty - the "bedroom" in the main house on the main floor doesn't have a door, just a curtain and it's directly across the kitchen. It offered zero privacy for my Mom and Dad These are just a few issues we ran into. The owner was responsive but as you can imagine, we were really surprised by the conditions. There's more to share but there's a character limit here. A bummer to say the least!

At night, we sat by the fire and watched the moon rose from the horizon, the night sky with Milky Way and the shooting star. During the day, we hiked the trails in the region, did kayaking and canoeing, and wine tasting. So much to do!

A local to the area, Joe’s place was a great find for our large group. We loved the decor, very comfortable beds, and a reasonable drive to wineries, downtown Ithaca and the outdoors. Host communication was prompt and helpful. Recommend for families or large groups that need a spot to gather and enjoy time together!
