This was perfect! Looked for a place to just relax. This is a gem! It truly looked magical with the snow falling and the peaceful walks were splendid. Just what we needed to decompress from
Life’s craziness. It’s secluded , peaceful, cozy and so relaxing. The bed was a great nights sleep too. The kitchen is cozy and the wood burning stove kept us very warm. The scenery and view was breathtaking . We loved the quiet and it had great amenities as well. It truly felt like we were in a hallmark movie scene. We loved it and we will be back for sure!

This was our second time at this rental and it was just as wonderful as the first. This cabin is a truly special place, it’s cozy, comfortable, well equipped, and even if it weren’t for all these throngs the views, scenery, and location would make staying here worth it. While our adventures likely won’t take us back to the Black Hills again for a while, we hope to be able to return here again in the future.

Cabin is spectacular with wonderful views and everything you need. We loved it.

This property is one of the best VRBO rentals we have ever rented. This location in the Black Hills is close to National Parks and monuments, local attractions and everything you could ever wish for in a vacation. The cabin is in an amazing place and so peaceful. It had everything we could ever need including a Blackstone grill. We had never used a grill like this, but we sure learned quickly and cooked only on this grill the entire time we were there. The road to the cabin is very well maintained and we did not have any problems getting around. Great place that we would recoomend!

Our family enjoyed the stay, and would recommend to anyone looking for a quiet place in the Black Hills. The pictures and description are accurate, and we were happy we could bring our dog as well. We enjoyed evenings on the deck after busy days sightseeing the area.
Only thing I wish I knew ahead of time, coffee is not provided. There is a coffee maker and K cup machine, just need to bring your own coffee. The first morning meant driving 15 minutes to the nearest coffee spot. Not a dealbreaker but a bit of an inconvenience.
Overall a great stay, and would stay there again.

Wonderful home base to explore the Hills. Beautiful location up high on the mountain. Million dollar views. Secluded. Loved using the Blackstone. Highly recommend this gorgeous property if you like to be away from it all. About 15 minute drive into Deadwood.

We enjoyed our stay, very secluded and peaceful location. It was super well stocked to stay entertained while spending the full day there, tons of games, DVDs, and kitchen ware. We loved our nightly fire pits chilling with a friendly family of chipmunks.

Where to start,The view is amazing. We seen deer every morning and after noon.
Seen the most amazing lightning storms every night we were there.
They have a large Blackstone if you never used one you have to try it.it’s like a giant cast iron skillet.
I plan on returning next year for a longer stay!!

This cabin was exactly what we were looking for. We will definitely be coming back in the future. Quiet with a great view. Felt like we were in the middle of nowhere but still close to town.

It awas a great family getaway!! Loved the aserenity the cabin gave us while we traveled as a family with our 2 dogs. The cabin gave us the serenity of the Black Hills but allowed us to be close to hiking and other attractions to participate in. Will definitely choose to return if in the area!

First impressions are a big deal. We walked up to the front door where there was a bag of garbage laying wide open, right by the door. The flies and bees were having a great time. The smell was horrid. There were dishes left in the sink and laundry left in the dryer. The upstairs gets so hot and the one tower fan is so loud, it was unusable. The grass/weeds were so high, even our dog wouldn’t go through them. When we did drudge through the weeds, our daughter stepped in dog poop! To which my husband said, I get it, why pick up the poop if you can’t see through the weeds. The bedroom with the balcony-the screen door is so bent up, the bugs just flew right in. While the stairs are definitely unique, they are very dangerous. Our ages are 46,42, 14 & 12 and everyone of us struggled with the stairs. If we had any form of physical issues, they would have been undoable. We were provided 3 paper towel rolls that were over half gone, with no replacements. We stayed for 6 days. We definitely will not be coming back. Very disappointed.

I was super impressed by the cabin. Very remote to get to, but well worth the trip. The cabin is exactly what you picture a remote old school cabin in the mountains to be. Very clean and well stocked with amenities. I would definitely book again.

Such a peaceful place. Very little traffic and a beautiful view. Secluded enough you couldn’t see much of the road. The cabin is clean and cozy and very well thought out with all the little details and amenities(dishes, spices, board games, firewood, roaster sticks, soaps, ect.) My 8 year old is already asking when we can come back!! Our 50lb dog couldn’t make the stairs so we had to carry him up and down but we anticipated that, just a warning if you have a larger dog.

MountainCrest is a fantastic place. We only spent a few days there but it is a lovely cabin. It is in a beautiful and secluded location. It had everything we needed. If you are looking for a peaceful and quiet place in the Black Hills, this is the place. Highly recommend!

It was an awsome location, really quiet.

I’ve always wanted to stay in a little log cabin in the snowy woods - this was perfect! My kids (5 & 7) spent hours sledding and playing in the snow, and we all enjoyed the coziness and peace and quiet. The cabin isn’t huge, but we had everything we needed. And a perfect base camp for some skiing at Terry Peak. Highly recommend - I wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again

We would highly recommend this property. We brought our dog and it was a great space for him as well. Quiet, secluded and close to hiking. The owners were responsive and gve detailed directions.

Can’t think of anything bad to say about this cabin. The mountaintop is spectacular, you will be tempted to spend your entire trip in and around the gorgeous property and cozy cabin. Everything is very well stocked and set up for a couple or small group. Our dog had the time of her life. We hope to return next time we’re in the Black Hills!

We weren't quite sure what to expect with this property when we booked, but have mixed feelings on it. It is a cute property, but there a couple of downsides. The good- the owners gave detailed instructions on how to get there and get into the house, very helpful! The view was awesome and the cabin itself was very quaint. We had just gotten married, so they had left us some flowers and wine- very nice and thoughtful! The not-so-good- Flies everywhere.... we aren't sure where they came from, but they seemed to have hatched and caused quite the mess in the upstairs bedroom with the balcony. When we got upstairs there were 70-80 flies (half dead) on the carpet. We found the vacuum and swept them up, no big deal, it's the country. Now, when we returned for our second nights stay, there were at least if not more than the previous amount of flies half dead again! Nothing gives you that dirty creepy feeling quite like all those flies. We swept up again, but there were still several buzzing around, which made sleep difficult. The property was also further out than we anticipated, but manageable. We were really looking forward to this stay, but were quite disappointed with the fly infestation. We're happy to send a picture if needed, but just thought it was important to share (and maybe it is a freak one-time thing!).

We went to get away, and found this place to be great. Close to Deadwood and Lead and Spearfish Canyon, but felt like we’re way out in the Hills. Very quiet!

The hosts thought of everything and made me feel welcomed into their cabin. This was such a peaceful, restful setting to truly make the world go away.
The description is accurate, I was thankful for 4WD. But completely worth the effort to get there.

This was our second time at this cabin and it makes me want to live there😬. Check in instructions were very easy and basic so I didn’t need to communicate with owners. I’m glad it was still available for us to rent again! It’s so peaceful that if your looking to get away from the business of your life this is so remote this will recharge you 💯! Thanks again and we’ll be back a 3rd time!

We stayed at Mountain Crest the last week of August 2022 and it was wonderful. The cabin has everything you need to make your stay very comfortable. It is nice and secluded and made for a lovely time just hanging out in the morning drinking coffee on the front deck or sitting around a campfire in the evening. Our labradoodle was so fixated on the chipmunks that she spent all of her time outside chasing them. It really wore her out each day which was nice since she has so much energy. The cabin is in a great location between Spearfish, Deadwood and Lead. It was so fun to see all the deer as we made our way back up to the cabin. The deer are plentiful around there. Check in and check out were really easy and the welcome basket was a really nice touch. We really enjoyed our stay here and hope to be able to come back again one day.
A few caveats:
1. there is no air conditioning but the owners do provide two tower fans and the living room and main bedroom have ceiling fans. We always take fans with us so with the windows open and all the fans on it wasn't bad. It does state in the description that it doesn't have air conditioning but we failed to see that.
2. While the stairs are really cool and quirky they are not good for pets, at least our dog. Our dog could get up but she couldn't not get down the stairs. My husband had to carry our 60 lb. dog up and down the stairs. This was good for him though! :-) Keep this in mind if bringing pets. I'm sure there are some that can maneuver them just fine but ours couldn't.
3. You are on a mountain with well water. It has a strong sulfur smell to it. Once the water runs for a moment it tends to dissipate quite a bit.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The views are amazing!! We enjoyed the fire pit and covered porch. Plenty of parking for our trailer. Anthony was very pleasant and accommodating! We will definitely rent this place again when we come back!

Nice cabin in a secluded area with a view. The cabin was clean and well stocked. We enjoyed our stay. A word of warning to future guests, the bedrooms do not have doors. Also, the steps to the 2nd-floor bedrooms are more like a ladder than stairs.

Our stay at the Mountain Crest cabin was amazing. The property is so private and just what we needed to detach and enjoy nature and family time. There is not one thing I would change about the property or our experience, other than we should have stayed longer. Would definitely return.

This cabin is quaint, a little quirky, extremely clean, very well stocked, and pretty remote. The stargazing was incredible!
The only drawback was the distance to many of the activities we did. But the coziness, cleanliness and beauty made it well worth it!!

The cabin is cute. It does need a little updating but found it to be cozy.

My family and I stayed in this cabin for the weekend and it was perfect. The views were amazing. The fire pit was awesome. We even saw Starlink our first night! The cabin was well stocked with everything you could ever need. We got rained out on our day of hiking so we came back to the cozy cabin and watched movies and played board games. We wish we could’ve stayed longer!
