Nestled on a hilltop, with spectacular views of Lake Arenal and the Arenal Volcano, Pie in the Sky is truly a little piece of paradise. Experience an unforgettable holiday in one of Costa Rica’s premier travel destinations. Accommodation: Pie in the Sky is a unique and luxurious accommodation. There are 3 separated houses that share the common areas like Swimming Pool, Jacuzzi and BBQ Deck, and it offers you the flexibility to rent each house individually or the entire complex for maximum privacy. This listing is ONLY for PIE IN THE SKY 3 - Pie in the Sky #3 is a 5 bedrooms house with same number of bathrooms and it sleeps up to 15 people. For your comfort all the bedrooms have air-conditioned, custom-made black out draperies, hotel like amenities and have access to the front terrace where the views are simple stunning. - The large kitchen with fine wood cabinets, granite counter tops and all the appliances is perfect to cook tasty meals for large parties. - For your enjoyment the spring fed pool and jacuzzi are just steps away from the house, and so is the BBQ Ranch with Propane Grill, tables and chairs. - THINGS TO DO: There are lots of tours to keep you entertained for days, Volcano hikes, Zip Lines, Hanging Bridges, ATV tours, Kayak and Paddle-board tours, Rainforest and Waterfall hikes, Horseback riding, Hot Springs, Wildlife watching tours and more. All of these are less than half an hour away from the house. Our concierge is always available at our new and modern Welcome Center to help you book tours, find the best restaurants, book a massage and get the most out of your time in the area. -LOCATION: El Castillo is approx. 3 hours (150km) from both international airports, either in the capital of San Jose, or on the northern pacific coast in Liberia. La Fortuna, which is a small city that offers amenities such as grocery, banking, post office, restaurants, hot springs, excursions and much more, is only 30 minutes away. - GETTING AROUND: You will want your own Rental Car. While there are a few things to see and a couple of restaurants within walking distance of the house, there are many activities that require a 10 to 45 minute drive. You will not be happy waiting for a cab to arrive either coming or going. *ROAD UPDATE: Some reviews mention the necessity of a 4x4 car to access the property, the drive up to the house was steep, rocky and sometimes slippery, but after Sep. 5th of 2022 it's completely paved, so any type of car will be able to make it up and down the hill without problems.

Property is better than in the pictures. Pool and jacuzzi were immaculately clean. Great views and well appointed kitchen. The supplied coffee was delicious. Monkeys and birds were entertaining. Location close to activities and provided a needed quiet from the fast paced adventure activities. Nearby restaurants were all 10/10. Highly recommend.

Absolutely gorgeous property with unbelievable views. The house itself was nice and comfortably slept 8 adults. Living room furniture is very uncomfortable but luckily we didn't spend much time sitting there. Kitchen was semi-well stocked but there are not any reasonable grocery stores nearby to be able to cookanything. Lots of ants got in the kitchen so couldn't leave anything out. We did hire a private chef the first night which was quite lavish and very expensive at around $120 per person. There are a number of restaurants within a 15 minute drive. It's about a 30 minute drive to Fortuna.

Property was exactly as described. Breathtaking view of volcano and lake. The house was beautiful and comfortably accommodated 5 couples. We had a great stay!! I hope to visit again.

We stayed for 3 nights and did the volcano hike, hanging bridges and coffee and chocolate tour. 6 adults and was plenty of room. Ate at both Howlers and Fusion which were both good and very close to us.

The property grounds were amazingly beautiful well kept and views were well worth the stay. Erica and Agustin were available for questions and they responded quickly. The draw back was for how huge the place is the living room was so small and couches were outdated and not comfortable. Not enough room for all eight of us to sit and relax together. And it had no AC so it would get stuffy even with the bedroom doors open to allow cooling. Although cleaning services were provided our rooms were still not really cleaned but they did provide clean towels. The grilling area, pool and hot tub were a great bonus. Location was good restaurants and grocery store around. In end it was a 4 1/2 stars but rating doesn’t do 1/2s.

Our stay at pie in the sky was absolutely wonderful. The view from the property was amazing and made our family feel at home in Costa Rica. The house was well maintained and had ample space for our family to spread out. The separate bedroom was a nice space as well although the stairs down to the bathroom were tricky at night. The kitchen and dining table were exactly what our party needed, especially for the holidays and our large group. Our party enjoyed using both the pool and hot tub as well as the grill area. The location is a bit far from La Fortuna area but that is what our group wanted. There were plenty of places to eat around the house. The road up to the house was a bit steep but expected given the view you get and the road was well paved. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would absolutely come again.

We traveled to this property before Christmas. It was beautiful! Such an amazing property that truly was a unique vacation rental. The property was very private. We saw a toucan on the property as well as many other birds. The view of the volcano was beautiful.

My family and I spent 4 nights on this beautiful property. The kids loved the hot tub and pool. The adults loves the views. There landscaping was beautiful and the view of the lake was amazing.
The location is about it 30 minutes to La Fortuna but very close to quite of few things to do like zip lining and hiking.
The drive to La Fortuna is a bit windy and the road had a few pot holes in it when we were there.
We ate pizza at Howler’s the first night and it was really good.
If you plan to cook while you are there you might want to buy groceries in La Fortuna. The small stores down the road from the house had a few things but not a lot of variety. Very nice people though.
There were some ants that liked to visit at night by the property manager provided us with Raid after the first night. If we sprayed around the door before sunset it seemed to help.
If you are looking for beautiful, peaceful views this is the place for you.

We were a group of 12, including 6 adults and 6 children aged 3-5. We loved our stay at Pie in the Sky! The kids had a great time exploring the property, where they saw hummingbirds, lizards, cows, and all types of interesting birds and bugs. The shared pool and hot tub were lovely and had incredible views. The house had plenty of room for our three families, although be aware that the 5th bedroom is not connected to the rest of the house (it's right outside but has a separate entrance and you have to walk outside to get to the room), so we couldn't actually use it given the age of our young kids. Howlers down the hill was a short and easy walk, and there's a nicer restaurant about a 10-15 minute walk down the road- all manageable for all the kids, even the littlest ones. Even our tour guides who came to pick us up took photo ops all over the property - it was that special.

Group of 13. We rented all 3 homes. Fantastic views in all of el Castillo. Would definitely stay here again! Two places to eat in walking distance.. Agustus the property manager was fantastic, prompt, and super helpful. We had a chef one night (Fermin) - glad we had them come after a long day of hiking. Kids loved the pool and the hot tub. The grounds were INSANE. So much to do in this area - you won’t be disappointed Booking Pie in the Sky

This is an amazing property. Tons of space, perched up on a hill with incredible views of the lake and Arenal!! Great seating on the porches to take it all in. Bird watching was incredible. Augustin is super helpful and can book tours for you. I highly recommend getting a chef to come in and cook for you - great food and so fun to just hang out at the house and not worry about driving. Several restaurants very close by for those that want to eat out. This property is quiet and secluded - complete 180 from the hustle and bustle of Fortuna. There is another house on the property that you can probably rent as well if your party is really large. I wasn't aware that there was another house but we never saw the people that were renting it. You do share the pool but sadly we never had time to swim. BONUS - king size beds (although the mattresses are very firm, that was the only thing I did not like about the house. Maybe a foam mattress topper would be a nice addition....). We were 2 families staying at this house, 4 adults and 4 kids and we didn't even use a bedroom. Lots of space.

A wonderful property near El Castillo. Checkin was great. Agustin is the property manager. He took care of little issues with the property AND gave us great advice for activities. The raised gazebo with a fantastic view of the lake was special. The only issue for us is that it's 30 minutes from La Fortuna - where most of the activities in the area are based.

We had two families and this was the perfect location for our stay near Arenal. The house has a beautiful view of the volcano with an amazing breeze on the porch. You are a 30 mins drive from all the craziness in La Fortuna but have several good restaurants 5-10 mins away in El Castillo. We will definitely be back!

What a unique and fun property! Our family of 12 had a fantastic time at El Fosforo. Home was spacious, liked that each bedroom had their own bath.
Patio views are amazing, the Bird's Nest was a huge plus for my bird nerd brother-in-law, kids loved the pool and Jacuzzi was a favorite of the adults.
15-30 min distance to various activities and our concierge, Agustin was super helpful with scheduling actives and dinner reservations.
Perfect for nature lovers and adventures both!

What a fantastic location with amazing views of the volcano and the lake. The outside property and gardens are stunning. The drive up to the property is easy but you do need 4 wheel drive. Inside is a little dated but worked perfectly for our needs. Wifi was great. Beds a little hard for our taste but not too concerning. We would definitely stay here again. Make sure you check out Howlers at the bottom of the hill for drinks or pizza.

GOOD: Absolutely beautiful property and just an amazing view. Sitting on the back porch was so peaceful. This is absolutely what you are paying for! Plenty of space in the house, in fact more than we even needed for a family of 5. Property management was nice; we didn't have any major issues that needed addressing but they were responsive to the one small thing we needed. Water pressure and temp are good. Tap water is drinkable; no funny taste.
BAD: They ask you to do your own dishes, clean the kitchen and take out the trash before you leave. Whoever was there before us did not do a good job with the dishes. I don't like relying on previous renters to do this task...kinda yuck. The beds are super hard, not firm, hard. By the 4th night, my spouse and I were actually in pain.
NEUTRAL/INFORMATIONAL: This house is in El Castillo which is about 30 minutes from La Fortuna. Very limited restaurant and grocery options in El Castillo. We were fine with this but this is important to know to plan accordingly. The driveway is steep as is already stated in many reviews. We had a small standard transmission SUV. You can make it up without 4 wheel drive but the standard transmission was helpful and a low sitting sedan might have issues. The little circular bedroom is completely separate from the main house; this could be good for some but for us was a negative b/c I didn't want to leave my kids alone in the main house. The main living area does not have AC. It was plenty cool enough for us with the bedroom ACs working but if it was very hot out not sure how it would be. The stove and the oven have to be lit manually and I am pretty sure the temperature dial is not accurate; it's ok but takes a bit to figure out. The laundry facilities are down by the pool which is a small walk from the main house; one washer was broken while we were there but luckily we were able to coordinate fine with the other 2 families staying there. There will be bugs in the house; I am not sure this is avoidable based on being in a rainforest. You have to meet property management off-site to get the keys and return them because there is a gate; it's not far away.

We had a wonderful stay. The property was the perfect size for our large party of adults, teens, and kids. The view from the porch was better than any we had during our entire travels and Costa Rica. Would highly recommend!

Unbelievable setting
This property is out of a dream! The views from every part of the house and properties are unique and gorgeous! We enjoyed sitting in all the different areas of the property. We had a van and it was raining a lot so we struggled with the driveway but made it every time… get a 4 wheel drive! The house itself could use some new bedding and updated cookware and dishes/glasses but we made do and it worked. The kids had a blast in the pool. Adults had a blast at Howlers Bar down the driveway - Juan and Walter were great! Agustine was very helpful and communicated well. We will all remember this remarkable property forever!

Incredible Oasis
We had a great stay in El Castillo! Agustin, the property manager, was incredibly helpful both before and during our stay which made it that much more enjoyable. It's hard to imagine having a better place to soak in the views of Arenal - and luckily here you have options: Pool area, observation deck, home deck, etc. We enjoyed watching the storms roll through the area. There is a good restaurant at the end of the long driveway called Howlers which has great drinks (must try the chili-guaro) and pizza and was a fun place to end the day. We would absolutely stay here again as it's in a great location that's a little off the beaten path but still close to all that Arenal has to offer . The only feedback we had was that one of the room's mattresses wasn't very comfortable.

The property is better than the pictures indicate. The views are incredible. Check in was easy. The driveway up to the property is quite steep, but not impossible. We walked down to Howler's and back up one afternoon. Can't wait to comeback.

The final hour and a half is fairly stressful if you're coming in at night (and for us in the rain.). The roads have quite a few potholes and it can be tough to see. Once you get there, it's all worth it. The bedding was decent, and all the A/Cs worked great. The driveway is really steep, but don't worry. After the first trip up and down, it's a piece of cake. The extra room that is slightly detached from the house is amazing. The solitary room is built in a rounded format with windows all around. It is close to everything you need, and the local restaurants are truly local. Book with confidence and enjoy your trip.

Loved this place. The attention to detail, views and layout of the property was so welcoming. The views were amazing. It's a quiet place and was a great place for the end of our trip to just relax and take in the views.
