About this house rental

Fall in love with our historic Distillery House, built in 1793, where vintage charm meets modern amenities. Immerse yourself in the vibrant history of Lancaster County. Conveniently located just 15 minutes from Lancaster, a 75-minute drive from Baltimore, 90 minutes from Philadelphia, 2 hours from Washington D.C., and 3 hours from New York City. For more photos and behind-the-scenes, follow @perennialstays. We renovated this historic fieldstone house to create an oasis of over 2,000 square feet. Unlike other historic homes, this one has a nice open floor plan with tall ceilings and plenty of gathering spaces for your group. You get the best of rare American Chestnut wide plank floors and 2 foot thick fieldstone walls combined with the comfort of modern bathrooms and magazine-worthy furnishings. No expense was spared on the high end furnishings in this home. As art and antique lovers, you will find original paintings and other works of art throughout the home. We've collected one of a kind vintage and antique decor mixed with high end furniture from stores like Restoration Hardware and Crate and Barrel. Each bedroom has a comfortable foam mattress and linens that we use in all of our properties and are a guest favorite! The kitchen is brand new with fancy quartzite counters, Moen fixtures, and a gorgeous Thor gas range / stove. Once booked, we'll email you our digital guest manual highlighting all of our favorite recommendations for the area including the best places to dine and explore - constantly updated with new info! The home is heated and cooled by an energy-efficient geothermal system. It's a clean, completely-renewable energy source and minimizes impact to the environment! The property was originally a distillery, and now instead of the 100 gpm spring distilling spirits, it serves as the heating and cooling source for the house. The water for the house comes from an artesian spring that flows to an adjacent pond. There is a lovely patio sitting area with a grill and charming string lights overhead where you can listen to the sounds of the spring flowing and watch the many varieties of birds that frequent the property! In spring and summer the grounds are especially gorgeous with mature walnut, cherry, oak, and locust trees. Deer, turkeys, hummingbirds, owls and many more species frequent the property. Beautiful perennial flower beds overflow with lilies, daisies, dahlia, peonies, ferns, butterfly bush, and coral bells. Kitchen and Dining Room – Newly renovated and spacious, there’s a huge Restoration Hardware dining table that seats 10. Huge island with counter seating, quartzite counters, and design details that perfectly complement the historic stone walls. The kitchen is fully stocked for all your cooking needs. 1st Floor Primary Bedroom and Bathroom - King size Restoration Hardware canopy bed with a designer chandelier, antique dresser, smart TV, and a lovely view of the spring. The walls are made of the barn wood from the original tobacco barn on the property! Adjacent is the newly renovated fresh and modern primary bathroom. Second Floor Living Room – Spacious with cathedral ceilings, perfect for congregating for games or falling asleep watching a movie. Pottery Barn sleeper sofa and a 70” flat screen TV with Roku. There’s a 4-person dining table for playing games or catching up on homework. This is also where we have a Peloton Bike+ available for guests. Don’t forget to bring your own cycling shoes! Bedroom 2 – King size Crate and Barrel bed in this cozy and stylish guest room. Bedroom 3 – Two antique twin beds for the kids or solo travelers. There’s also a desk / workspace. Sunroom - The stunning two story sunroom has a woodburning stove so you can entertain next to the cozy fire. Relax on the daybed to your favorite tv show. FYI - the sunroom is not currently climate controlled. Wifi & Speakers- The house has Wifi and we have added an Eero mesh network that is connected to Comcast high speed internet plus Sonos speakers. Please note that this house shares a driveway with our adjacent rental where other guests will very likely be staying - both houses are available to rent! Book early because dates go quickly. Rental contract required for every booking! To be sent to guest upon booking within the 48 hour zero penalty cancellation period. The property has an exterior security camera (with posted sign) monitoring the front entrance. The camera is used for security purposes and to remotely monitor that the maintenance vendors we hire (cleaners, snow removal, landscaper, etc.) have completed their work. A Message about COVID - The safety of our guests remains our highest priority. Prior to check-in, all guests are asked screening questions about COVID exposure or symptoms. Pet Policy: We are well behaved dog-friendly. We recommend your dog is up to date on all flea/tick medication. All dogs must be kept off the furniture at all times (even "non-shedding" dogs) and we ask that you crate them when left alone in the house. If you would like to bring your pet, please notify us at the time of booking. There is a pet fee of $100 per pet per stay. Although the house is close to plenty of amenities, it’s also close to farms and fields! Ladybugs, stinkbugs, deer, turkeys, bees, wasps, frogs, moths, ticks, spiders, bats, snakes, etc. may be encountered during your stay. While our housekeepers and our pest control service work hard to keep things very clean and tidy, the reality is that we are a centuries old house in the country - so you may encounter some wildlife or the smell of nearby farms! Famous past owners and residents include: * Capt. Jacob Krug, co-founder and first treasurer of Franklin College (now Franklin & Marshall College) * Abraham Hershey Herr, great-grandson of Hans Herr, the first Mennonite Bishop to emigrate to America * Samuel J. Atlee Jr., son of Col. Samuel J. Atlee (Revolutionary War hero who served on the Continental Congress), and grandson of Lady Jane Alcock (lady-in-waiting to King George II's wife) * John Miller, High Sheriff of Lancaster County (1785-1787) and Chief Burgess of Lancaster Borough (1799, 1805) * Lt. Col. Jacob Shirk Strickler, member of the State Assembly (1797-1800), appointed commissioner to move the state capital from Philadelphia to Lancaster in 1799.

Historic home with great amenities and tasteful decor. High tech heating system suffered a short-term glitch and Corey went above and beyond to make sure we stayed comfortable and had options. I would really this Vrbo without any hesitation!!

We had a wonderful stay in Columbia. The house was comfortable and well appointed. It was perfect staying as two families with young kids. The older kids shared the twin bed room. The different living areas made it nice to give each family a little space and also great hang out options.

It feels remote on this property, but it is so convenient to everywhere in the county. It is both historic and subtly modernized. Beautifully furnished, comfortable beds and pillows, clean! Unlike most rentals, it even has top quality toilet paper! We'll be returning. Many thanks to our gracious hosts.
