Grandstay has a friendly staff and comfortable rooms. Sure there were some outdated things but we paid a lot less than the newer hotels. The bed was comfortable, shower worked well, nicely appointed kitchen. Since I’ve had cleaning jobs & am particular in regards to that, I had to deduct a bit on cleanliness. A few things they overlooked otherwise a nice stay while visiting family in Ames.

We like staying at this motel when in Ames. The rooms are spacious. We had some issues with the door reading our key card that was resolved. It’s an older motel. Looks like they are trying to keep up on it. Overall great place, comfortable, good breakfast and pool with hot tub.

Very run down and needs a lot of updating. Hot tub was broken.

I like the hotel. We've stayed there a few times. It's a great place to stay when you go with another pearsor that you work with, as it gives you each a seperate room to stay in.

Room is clean. Breakfast selections are good.

Decent hotel for a good price that was close proximity to the ISU stadium. However, our suite was not stocked with basic supplies including linens or toiletries. Otherwise, a good experience and would probably stay there again.

Friendly staff and location great. Property more run down than when we stayed last (2 years ago). Workout room minimal and a sauna. Rooms dirty (stuff all over chairs) and could use some paint.

They gave me a room that was one bed short of what I reserved for my family of 6. While polite and apologetic, no attempt to rectify mistake was made, other than allowing me to cancel. I was able to get a room at Staybridge Suites last minute and my family had a great experience there.

They were very accommodating, we had comfortable beds.
I would stay there again.

Our experience at this property was outstanding. The staff was friendly and the hotel was very clean :) I did give a 4 star on property condition because the hot tub was out of service. I understand this was out of their control but was really looking forward to soaking in hot tub this weekend. Other than that everything was great

Well I got a room here and planned on using the hot tub. It was closed and I was never notified of any issues at booking or check in. I even asked how late the pool and hot tub was open. Lots of other hotels in the area to choose from. Probably not here again. The air vents near the ceiling were very dirty. Just thought of the fuzz blowing down all night while sleeping 😞

The front desk person was friendly and helpful. The room was not very clean but the biggest negative was the unknown critter in my room. I am assuming it was a mouse or rat. They gave me a new room but I kept hearing noises all night long so I left all the lights on and didn't get much sleep.

We stayed here for 1 night following a football game. Things started out strange when the couple trying to check-in in front of was told their hotels.com reservation wasn't in their system and basically blamed the 3rd party system (hotels.com). And apparently this was the 3rd time that day they had this problem. I've never heard of this happening before, let alone 3 times in one day. Fortunately, our reservation was in their system. The room itself was okay. We had checked in prior to the game and when we returned after the game there was a random pair of socks on the sofa. We didn't notice this earlier, so this was really strange. Whose socks are they? How did they get there? Our room only had a Queen bed as that was all that was available when we booked. We thought we'd use the pull-out bed so the queen wouldn't be over crowded by 2 adults and a child. The pull-out was awful - wasn't even level. Lights in the bathroom sometimes flickered rapidly. The drain in the tub was broken. And soon after we returned to the room following the game, the keycard reader on the door stopped working. After getting new cards that didn't work, the woman working there told my wife they couldn't fix it and that she would have to let her into the room (EVERY TIME WE NEEDED IN THE ROOM). So now we had to play a game of making sure someone was always in the room so they could let the others back in without needed help from the front desk. The room served it's 1 night purpose - wouldn't stay again.

This property got good rating. And we found it nice enough. The staff was helpful. The suite of rooms, allows for one to go to bed early or get up early without disturbing your other.
However, the property is becoming dated. No USB outlets on the lights and desk. Drain plugs missing.
Breakfast was standard "continental breakfast" fare, and cold one morning.
Could be pricey for the condition.

Rooms were spacious but the bathroom needed to be updated badly. And breakfast was barely continental, the only hot item was make your own waffles.

The people here are so nice and helpful. I had an issue with the fridge in my room and they offered to move me to another room. I declined since I just wanted to store drinks in there, and they brought me a mini fridge for my drinks until they addressed the room fridge. There were issues with the door lock, and they addressed it quickly and has new keys waiting on me when I returned. The room I was in was spacious and clean with a full kitchen and sitting area separate from the bedroom.
I didn't try the breakfast, but it looked good and people seemed to enjoy it. I'd definitely stay there again.

I asked when I checked in if the hot tub was working one of the reasons for my stay and when I want to use it that evening, it was absolutely not working check and he lied to me. My room was also not up to standards as far as colonist construction outside, kept me awake.

Staff very friendly.
Pool area was very dirty and hot tub was simply disgusting.

Good location to stay, close proximity to ISU. Current challenge is extensive road construction on only entrance street.

Could use a thorough clean up and upkeep. Didn’t even have spoons to use for breakfast

Rhonda who worked every morning made sure breakfast was available, she heard the coffee plunger was out and came from the front desk to get it refilled without being asked. She’s a hard worker I was always very helpful and all my inquiries.
The only thing that was disappointing after a four night stay it was that we could not get an increase of one hour on our late check out, this was a management decision, on a Monday morning you think it would be possible to accommodate.

Very nice property at a good price.

We drove 7 hours with 5 kids to this Grand Stay to be told they overbooked our handicap accessible RESERVED room. (I get it
..mistakes happen) We had to fit 7 people on one bed and a pull out couch. I then was given information to connect to the wifi, went to our room, tried connecting to the wifi to finish my work. Wifi wouldn't work. Called the desk and was told the wifi wasnt working because of road construction. This info came from the same person that gave me the wifi info at checkin just one hour prior. My husband requeated a partial refund for our smaller room and for not having wifi. The person at the desk said we need to search in THEIR policy to find where it says we have a right to a refund for these things.
My husband also has a broken leg and could barely manage the bathroom because we couldn't get the room we reserved. It was horrible for him!
How embarrassing for the GrandStay brand. We will not be back to this hotel.

It was an acceptable hotel for 1-2 night stay for the cost. The staff was helpful, though we had little contact. Check in and Check out was quick. It's in a convenient area. Currently road construction near the hotel.

The hotel is becoming very run down. We've been staying here for years and nothing has ever been updated.

It was VERY clean and nice and I plan to visit there frequently over the next few years but I would not stay again unless I knew they got some good mattresses
