Sorry I am unable to review as they had no heat and moved me to Aspen Inn, the ladies there were very nice but the hotel as old and no where near the lake. I was very disappointed

First of all ,I asked for a king size bed with a lake view the hotel scratched out my original room and put us on the road side.Went and asked for the original room booked ,we got it . The room was very dated the main window to look out to the lake was doubled paneled had moisture so you could not see the lake.the other 2 side windows had no screen on one of them ...no microwave in the room ,no ice available and small fridge which was ok ...It was 80 degrees in the room with no way to control the temperature,so we had to sleep with the windows open all night.we had no warm water whats so ever ..Front desk girl said they called for service for the water ...but looking at other reviews this happens a lot ..how can you keep a hotel open with no warm to hot running water ..The computer to check in kept crashing so that as 20min ..The hotel as managment says in other reviews "retro " this is not retro what so ever ..This management should be ashamed of themselves to have this hotel open and to serve the public .You drive long dustance ,you need to shower and cant ..no discount was offered to us at all until we asked .Id hate to see if a young family was to stay there and be abandoned.I have teaveled the world ,very experienced traveler,so I am not over exaggerating..The public needs to be aware before booking ..Thank you for the time to read this

Dont use hotel.com to book a room here...i did but the hotel supposedly doesnt get notified that we used your company so i had to book thru the hotel when we arrived and it costed us 70 bucks more....212 CAD for a horribly cheap place....no cable tv....bed felt like it was lopsided head of the bed was lower....walls were very thin

Our room wasn't ready at 4:30 pm when we arrived. We walked into our room with bed stripped, no towels etc. They ended up giving us a different room.
Ice machine not working.
Check out went well.

We were taking a winter road trip and spent a night in Grand Maris. Everything seemed fine when we checked in, however; a few hours later my husband took a shower and the water was cold, it didn't even get a little warm. there was a big stain on the floor covered with a throw rug that looked so out of place. everything at the breakfast bar was prepackaged and individually sealed. there was no heat in the room. when I told the woman at the front desk about the lack of hot water, she yelled at me, saying " The gas man was supposed to be here yesterday" I am sorry, It was not my fault he did not show up. We had already suffered for that, we could have been treated with a little respect and offered a discount or at least an 'I'm sorry'. Not a good experience.

The front desk was totally accommodating! We had top floor first night and since we are not stair people, we were relocated downstairs. Shower was powerful. Breakfast was cereals, coffee, pop tarts, toast, juice, hard boiled eggs, oat meals, Keurig in lobby for hot chocolate, coffee and teas with honey. Right across the street from Sven and Oles! It was a pleasant birthday getaway with my spouse!

Heat was not working. 60 degrees in our room. We left early. They need to refund our money.

Nice simple hotel. Beautiful views of the lake. Lots of snacks offered for guests. It's an older hotel, but its clean and comfortable. The staff is very nice and friendly. It's a walkable community. We went for a class at the North House Folk School. I would stay here again.

Great Location, and their Staff were all professional and considerate, we will be back this summer.

Place has not been updated in decades. They have a boiler for heat and you need open the window to control the temperature in your room. Stained carpet and bedspread. Very old mattress. Unkept outside of building including broken shutters, huge dog/moose turds and cigarette buts on flower beds. We had a four night stay without a single house keeping visit and only one set of towels per person. I would not book this again.

The thermostat must’ve been broken because it was 80 degrees in the room when I got there. Tried turning it off, but it just kept going. Tried the front desk to no avail. No wifi password given.

The staff were the friendlist hotel staff i have ever encountered. Helpful, made me feel at home. I would definitely stay here every time in Grand Marais.

Staff was great nice place to stay

Lack of outlets for laptop, shaver, et al. The heat in the room was close to 80 degrees and was beyond regulating.

We loved how friendly the staff were and how everything was already decorated for the holidays. This was our first time in Grand Marais. We loved it! There are so many unique gift stores nearby and there are so many trails and attractions. This inn is going to be our new weekend getaway sanctuary.

This was the most cozy place ever! Stsff treated you like family! I loved it here. It was convenient snd my window looked tight out over the lake

Nice stay - very friendly staff. Love the 24/7 snacks and coffee/tea!! Most attractions within walking distance. Although building is in need of cosmetic overhaul - especially bathrooms.

This hotel is very dated and needs an update. The shower was disgusting, moldy tiles and mold in ceiling area.
Million dollar view of Lake Superior was significanly compromised by a failed thermopane window that had a significant amount of discoloration right in the middle of the window. This property needs a significant update. We will not stay here again.

So tired, so antiquated, so uncomfortable!

Very nice location, the Shoreline Inn is very dated but the staff are very nice. the room was clean and the beds were comfortable. nice for the price to rest for the night.

The employees were very friendly and very helpful, considering what they have to work with. We reserved a lakefront room but they sent us to one that wasn’t. We requested a change and they accommodated us. The bedding was (I assume) clean but old and in desperate need of being replaced. The mattresses were old and bouncy. Thankfully the pillows were comfortable. The carpet in the room was so stained and disgusting we couldn’t even walk on it with bare feet. The rooms have no AC and it was stuffy and miserable to sleep. There was a box fan in the closet which marginally helped. The door to our room was coming off the wall at the top and we had to lift the door to get it to close. My 84 year old mother would have been stuck in the room in an emergency if she were alone. The patio was a nice space right along the water but was not well kept with plastic chairs sitting in a pile and some chairs sitting broken. With a little effort it could have been an amazing space. They did have a nice coffee bar in the lounge area which looked relatively clean, just old. It was disappointing for as much as we paid but we were determined to not let it ruin our stay in beautiful Grand Marais.

The staff were very nice, breakfast was ok, need eggs or some protein. The place is old with no AC just fans, need new mattress and pillow and towels for sure. Dirty windows so you cant see the Lake much.

The staff, area and room were all wonderful, accomodating and just what I needed. It did feel safe, despite the lack of lack of door locks from the outside. the patio was right on the Lake and very soothing. I'd highly recommend this place for a "reboot" and a healing time.

The front desk staff were friendly & helpful for any questions. The locks on the doors were being changed, and so we had to share our key with our friends who were also staying there. Kind of strange. The room was spacious and just fine for the amount of time we were in the room; basically just to sleep. The beds could really use an update, as could the carpet and the windows. It was nice to have the fridge in the room, and also a fan, since it was quite warm in Grand Marais when we were there. For the money, it was just fine, since reservations are very, very difficult to get at this time of year.

The staff was very friendly. The facility is older and in need of updating.

This hotel is a mixed bag. The good: really great breakfast selection. Not a hot breakfast, but something for everyone, which was much appreciated. It's on the water, a big positive. I asked for and was given a lake view room and the Lake Superior view did not disappoint. Friendly and helpful employees, a big plus! It's very convenient to the downtown area of Grand Marais. The bed was comfortable. The not-so-good: this is a tired, old hotel in need of refurbishing. Many small maintenance-type issues, such as a shower drain that does not stay in the open position, peeling wallpaper, non-functioning hair dryer, and that sort of thing. No extra pillows or blankets, a refrigerator in which the freezer compartment was not functional due to being completely iced up. No elevator. Worn out bathroom fixtures, etc. It's not for people that are picky about age and condition; that's for sure. But for me, I rated the hotel "good" simply because of the location on the lake and the helpful, friendly staff. I had a good experience here and it served my purpose, which was to spend most of my time out enjoying Grand Marais.

We have been staying here for years and it seems to have gone "downhill"
We were disappointed and doubt we will be back.

great location, will stay here again, you should have microwaves in the rooms to make popcorn and heat up food ect. or allow guests to use microwave in dining area

It's a place to eat, sleep and shower. It wasn't HORRIBLE, but it definitely isn't anything spectacular. Our TV didn't work the entire stay, which wasn't a huge deal, because we were only there once it was time for bed & to eat breakfast in the morning. The water during my showers would suddenly go extremely hot or freezing cold. The front desk people were pleasant, and the breakfast had a handful of options. It's exactly what you'd expect for the price you're paying.

It is dated but for the price amd location it can not be beat . Staff is extremely helpful! Your stay includes breakfast and snacks . it’s not the Ritz so lower your expectations .

Great place on the lake for a good nights rest. Friendly staff.

I would say that you have to moderate your expectations when considering this property. Yes, the property is quite old. However, the staff was super and very accommodating and friendly. You also can't beat the location - right on the lake/beach.

The location was beautiful as it was right on the water, and the staff was very helpful and friendly. Our room had the coziest beds I’ve ever slept on, and it’s a very affordable stay.

Bathtub did not originally drain after shower for over 5 minutes. Reported problem and the next day it was supposedly fixed, but still did not drain well. A hotel staff member then came back, and finally got it to work OK, after about 60 minutes of work with plugger, and smelly chemicals. My wife then on checking out, left her Cell Phone Charger in the room, but the maid never supposedly found it, so we will be forced to buy a new phone charger, instead of paying for mailing her original phone charger back to us. Seagulls were also loud from first light to Sunset. Lock on front of hotel was also taped, so that it could not lock, for overnight security of hotel, and its guests.

Property shows its age.
Breakfast is just an assortment of pre-packaged items.
Staff was very helpful, especially upon arrival when i learned Expedia had canceled my reservation for no apparent reason.

Awesome friendly helpful staff, incredibly homey- welcoming vibe - small but very comfortable lobby with open access to porch just feet from lake superior - this was among the best hotel stays I have ever had. Next time I'm heading to Grand Marais, this would be my first choice!
Thank you!

One of the things I loved was the fact there was a continental breakfast at the hotel. However, after the weekend, the food supply depleted and was not replenished we stayed four nights five days I was disappointed in that.

Great location. Old building that could use some tlc. Comfy bed and nice staff.
1.0
No A/C, no elevator, no screen in our window, window covered in bird poop, furniture was old and in disrepair, property grounds outside our window littered with trash and old furniture. Bathroom door wouldn't close. Phone didn’t work. I will never stay here again. Overpriced and misrepresented in advertising.
