I greatly enjoyed my stay at the Heart of Manteo. My room was clean and comfortable. Staff were very nice, helpful with information, and took care of any concerns I may have had. I will denitely stay at the Heart of Manteo again upon my next visit to the area.

I got what I paid for. Room smelled, no bar to hang clothes, walls paper thin (heard next door arguing all night), mattress was uncomfortable, bed spread was nasty, some air machine in the room was very noisy and kicked on and off constantly.

It was quiet during the day but, after 9 pm it got a bit more active which was uncomfortable for a single woman with small children and I felt a unsafe. I ended up putting everything in front of the door and my keys over top of the chain due to the slight Gap and I felt as though someone could stick something through there. I would stay again but with a man in tow.

2nd stay here. Checkin is easy. Less than 5 mins. Room was clean. The sink faucet was loose and came off when turn on. My husband was able to get it back on to use it. Coffee was left but no coffee cups. Other than that our stay was perfect. No problems. Will definitely stay again soon. Thank you!

I have had fairly good experiences with recommended hotels and motels. The positive reviews I got for the Heart of Manteo must have come from spring or summer visitors. I realize off-season is a time to renovate and recover, but not all of us are summer travelers. Just a little attention to details can make or break a stay. My biggest complaint was noise. As noted in my check-in review, the door was poorly insulated, light very evident around the entirety. Conversations and engine sounds were very loud, especially after 11 o'clock p.m. Add to this the morning crews wheeling back and forth outside in extra-squeaky carts, talking either on their phones or to disembodied friends about various miseries. The Heater/ AC was a bit loud as well, kept running by the imbalance of temperature control due to the insulation problem. This was a problem for the TV, and I had to keep turning the volume up and down as a result. I was hopeful it did not unduly disturb the folks on either side of me. I say this only because I could hear some of the folks in the next room talking and shouting, as well as their TV. The room itself was adequate, clean and well-stocked. I was a little concerned about loose fixtures in the sink and the fridge did need a defrosting. Nothing catastrophic. Like I said, off-season is a great time to deal with seasonal problems, but off-season guests should be considered as valuable. Especially if you want them back. I won't be.

The Heart of Manteo is now our go-to for accommodations for our fishing trips. The rooms are clean, the beds comfortable, and the location off the beach makes it much less expensive than the other options. All we need is safe, clean, comfortable accommodations. This place is perfect for our needs.

They could not find my reservation at checkin and made me wait for more than 30 minutes. I was very displeased with my experience and vacated a day before. The property manager is a cheat. He promised to refund my unused day’s stay fee but he didn’t. All my phone calls went wasted. Never going anywhere close to the hotel again. Bathroom is bigger than main room. Not convenient to stay.

My partner and I found it to nice for what it was. In some aspects it was better than the brand named places we've been lately. Our room was clean and beds were made. Bathroom provided basic amenities but the water pressure was very low, it felt like a trickle. Check in and out has become rather standard in the area with the remote kiosks, but there was no staff at all onsite over night. So we had no extra pillow or towels. It was not quiet and the light is visible under the door.

The room was spacious and the bed was super comfortable. The check in, though, was super impersonal, and put me off right away. I have encountered alot of different check-in experiences all over the world, but checking in on a kiosk was super impersonal. There were friendly guests, though. Overall, getting past that daggone kiosk, it was a good stay.

Our second night stay the AC stopped working. Plugged into a different outlet and it worked. Two hours later power to rest of room went out. Friends stayed in a different section and the entire area was without power the entire night. Maintenance never showed up. Also did not like that no desk staff on property. Virtual check in and out.

When we arrived around midnight the air conditioning was not on. It was so hot I sat on the side of the bed all night. There were big bugs in the room and mice. It was so bad we left around 8 in the morning. I let them know at checkout but no one seemed concerned.

Manteo is such a cool, historic town. This motel should do much more to reflect this. Although we were checked in by a real person, we never saw a real person at the desk again. Lots of cigarette butts, bottle caps and debris outside our room. Water temp in shower was iffy. Convenient location but better choices are out there for a 2-3 night stay.

It was roomy and most importantly clean. Rooms have obviously been renovated. Beds were comfortable. I did not experience the same issue with water pressure as other reviews, however, I showered before anyone was awake in the building. The checking in via video kiosk was weird because I’ve never done it, but it was just as quick and efficient as if there had been a person standing there. I would stay again if the need arises.
