About this farm stay rental

Nestled in Viana do Castelo District, this attractive farm stay for $320 per night is a fantastic choice for your next vacation. House in a hamlet, with uninterrupted views over the 7 hectares of agricultural land that is part of this small farm. Five hectares of this land are vineyards whose grapes go for the production of the famous Vinho Verde wine. Quinta da Lage is a relaxing space, in harmony with nature. Lage at Tregosa is an old farm house in a small hamlet about 1/2 mile from the main road, in an area with green mountains and fields covered with vines, between Viana do Castelo, Barcelos and Ponte de Lima, in Northwestern Portugal and not far from Porto (2nd city in Portugal). The house is near the Neiva river which has a small river beach close to a weir. The buildings that were formally used for agriculture have been converted to a large living room with glass windows and doors looking out onto a patio. This was formally the 'eira' where the maize was spread out on large granite stones to dry in the sun. The main entrance to the house is from a 'quinteiro', the enclosed yard of the farm, where stone steps lead to the first floor with the door opening into a hall with a sitting area and a salamander stove for cooler nights in winter. Opening off is a bedroom with a double bed which has an en-suite shower room. Also leading off is a small bedroom with two bunk beds suitable for children or teenagers. A vestibule has two further bedrooms with double beds and a shared bathroom. Stairs lead down to the old kitchen which has a traditional fireplace originally intended for cooking over an open fire with the sausages and hams being smoked in the large chimney. For modern living there is a barbecue which can either be used in the chimney or taken outside. The rooms in the house retain their traditional character and three bedrooms are sharing a communal bathroom. The kitchen also contains a 4 burner gas stove and a combined fridge freezer and a traditional table with bench seats. A door leads out onto the 'Quinteiro' The large light living room has a dining area with a table and 12 chairs. The sitting area is at one end of the room around an open fireplace with a heat recuperator, where there is also satellite television and music centre with cd/dvd. In front of the 'eira', in view of the living room of the house, is the large swimming pool which has water from the spring but also some treatment. Patio doors lead out onto the 'Eira' and the swimming pool. The size of the swimming pool is 11 metres by 6 metres and the depth is from 1 metre to 2 metres. During your stay we will leave you and your family alone, but if you need anything we and people working at Quinta da Lage, are only one phone call away. The beautiful green region of the Minho is located in the northwest of Portugal in an area between the rivers of The Douro (to the South) and The River Minho on the Spanish border (to the North) and locked in by the mountains (to the East). The region's climate is greatly influenced by mountains and Atlantic currents. The most significant feature is the yearly rain levels showing an annual average of 1500 mm concentrated mainly in winter and spring. With good reason, many Portuguese consider the Minho to be the most beautiful part of the country. A rolling province of lush river valleys, forested hillsides, trailing vines and long, sandy beaches, it is immensely pleasing on the eye, while much is made of the Minho's traditional aspect, especially in the mountainous east, where you can still see wooden-wheeled ox-carts creak down cobbled lanes. Here age-old customs are maintained at dozens of huge country markets, festas and romarias. Vinho Verde is an unique product, miss-understood by some but loved by many. With a blend of aromas and petillance that makes it a delicious natural beverage. Medium in alcohol, Vinho Verde has great digestive properties due to its freshness, slight fiz and special qualities. It is a highly regarded wine, especially when served chilled for Summer drinking. The malo-lactic fermentation gives it a distinctive taste and personality. The reds are full-bodied wines with an intense colour and a rosy or light red foam. The whites usually present a lemony or straw colour. The strong distinctive character and originality of these wines are the result of soil and climate characteristics, social-economic elements, grape varieties and the vinegrowing methods. The vines, distinguished by their great vegetative expansion in severe conditions, occupy an area of almost 35 thousand hectares, corresponding to 15% of the national viticultural area. Quinta da Lage is located 40 miles north of Porto Intl Airport (OPO). It's not far from the ferry lines from Northern Spain and the UK, that terminate in Viana do Castelo (8 miles away) and Vigo (90 miles away). The house is not ready to welcome weelchairs, or other equipments for handicaped people. Bare in mind, it's an old farm house, recovered for rural tourism. Pets are aloud in the Quinta, because they can stay outside. Upon request a baby bed, can be ready to welcome a baby with the family.

The villa was very beautiful in an old style way, it had everything you needed for a family of 7. The pool and garden were fantastic, so much so that we didn't explore the area very much. A beautiful, well looked after property that is hidden between corn fields and vin yards. The owners were very helpful and welcoming, even providing a welcome food package which was lovely. The only negatives, we were unable to get the wifi to work (a major issue for the teenagers - but they survived!!!!!) and the mattresses and pillows on some of the beds were a bit thin. Overall, a very relaxing holiday where we spent a lot of quality time with the kids, playing cards, hanging out in the pool and playing hide and seek as the garden was so big. Would highly recommend this property to everyone that wants a relaxing family holiday. Would definitely go back!!
