Phenomenal service and clean room. Perfectly located to the tram and major sites.

We stayed in one of the two bedroom suites for 1 night with our family. The location was great. It was a very large apartment which was nice and very clean. do have to say though the street noise was very loud at times making it difficult to sleep. The bedrooms are at the front of the apartment towards the street. The bed in the main bedroom could also use replacing as it tilts down towards your head when laying on it. Pretty uncomfortable.

Affordable luxury!! Location at it’s best 🏆 front desk staffs are lovely

Staff couldn't be friendlier on check in and check out. Room and hotel as a whole was kept to a high finish, minimal wear and tear and very clean.
It felt very luxurious, nice places to sit in the evening, super comfy bed.
Cant comment on food but I would recommend The Place/ stay there again

Excellent location. Standard room on top floor, in eaves. Low ceiling, claustrophobic. Check in unwelcoming. Checkout and request to leave luggage excellent, staff polite and enthusiastic. Arrived back at 10.30pm on Sat, bar staff advised bar was closed. Poor! Edinburgh accommodation is expensive and the least one would expect is enthusiastic service. Other than location and cleanliness I couldn't recommend this hotel. Definitely NVfM.

Very friendly staff on reception, the room was clean, quiet and the hotel itself is perfectly located to see all the sites of Edinburgh. The room was a bit hot but thats more of a personal preference. Would definitely stay again.

Staff were lovely, room was clean, very good value for money. (Was also lovely and warm inside couldn't tell it was December and had been snowing at all!)

Really small things. So the mattress was a bit uncomfortable/soft and the room was really hot at night.
But the staff were very helpful and polite and friendly. And the hotel was very clean. Overall a great stay.

The room was quiet and quite large, the bed super comfortable, and the staff professional, helpful and friendly. The hotel was conveniently located and the breakfast was wonderful!

Location was excellent. I took the tram from Edinburgh airport to the hotel took only 30 minutes and the tram stop just 3 minutes away from the Place.

Excellent hotel, clean and tidy. Bed was very comfortable.Reception and dining room staff were exceptionally good. Breakfast was great with plenty of choices.
I would highly rate this hotel.

The place is excellent specially if you are a solo traveller. Staff are very friendly. Not advisable for people with mobility problem or if you have a carriage for your baby, as you need to use the stairs going down to your room. Other than that, everything is great!

Fantastic and helpful staff, clean rooms, easy access to the city

Wonderful stay for our first journey to Edinburgh! The room was so large! The bed was comfortable, bathroom, coffee, everything just wonderful. The front desk staff were all personable, helpful and friendly - extra kudos to the bartender who was so nice, funny and helpful with some whisky recommendations. Breakfast was very good - altho I do wish that perhaps there was an option for just the continental spread (I'm not that hungry in the morning, but paying £15 would be too much for just a few bites). Thank you all again!

Good location being close to downtown.
The staff are very helpful and friendly.
Adam at front desk carried our luggages for us to our room as there is no elevator.

Lovely stay at the place. Service was amazing. Only slight issue is they have no lift so if you are on the top floor like I was there are quite a few steps. The team did offer to carry my bags tho so still highly recommend this place

Great hotel and staff with an absolutely fantastic location too far away from anything. Would highly recommend!

The Place was not the place to be. Our beds were extremely uncomfortable, reminds me of a hospital cot. On our arrival, the receptionist wasn't pleasent and came off rather stand-offish. The hotel wifi wasnt working and we went to reception and waited for someone to show, they ended up giving us the password for their secure wifi. Also, we were informed they had laundry services on-site, but upon checking in, the receptionist stated they didnt do that and gave options on where to take items. When asked where it was from hotel, receptionist grunted and gave us the information.

We had a really enjoyable experience staying at The Place. The room had great facilities, lovely big windows with blackout shutters, very clean. The bed was very comfortable, great pillows too! Our request for splitting the beds was also accommodated for so we were very pleased with that. The staff was very friendly and helpful, would 10/10 recommend the hotel, would definitely stay here again when I visit Edinburgh next time.

We enjoyed our stay at The Place. We had read reviews about there not being a lift in the hotel, however, we are seniors and had no difficulty navigating the stairs. Additionally, we had a basement room which was well appointed and comfortable. Our stay was a welcome surprise based on reviews we had read. We enjoyed the central location and would recommend this property to others. Thanks to the lovely front desk staff who made us feel very welcome when we arrived earlier than expected!

Great location, excellent staff.
Only down side we to was really small and bed was very uncomfortable.

Ideally situated for the centre of Edinburgh and train station. Hotel room was spacious and had all the amenities. Our room didn't have air-con so would be mindful of that when it is warm.

We enjoyed out stay at The Place. We were able to change rooms since there is no elevator and our rooms were on the 3rd floor. They put us in a flat in the lower area. I did not read anywhere that there was no elevator and we were traveling with a 90 year old friend. The staff was very gracious and helpful. The food was delicious.

Lovely old, elegant property, beautifully decorated and maintained. Only problem for us was that we were on the second floor, having to negotiate 50 steps to get to our room, no lifts! Room was huge and worth the trek though…. we would certainly stay there again. Staff very pleasant and helpful too!

One of the few affordable hotels that had a room available in August. Close to tram and bus stops (handy for the airport), good cafes on neighboring streets. No AC but they have fans available at the desk.

Very clean and stylish with great, if rather small breakfast. Great location. Parking in a big lot nearby. My room was on the front but super quiet.

Excellent hotel with pleasant engaging staff. The room was everything I had hoped for, clean, spacious and very comfortable.
There were some small criticisms, the bath surround was not of a good standard and looked tatty and ill fitting as did the water stains on both bedroom and bathroom ceilings.
That said it in no way negatively affected our stay indeed the hotel enhanced a lovely weekend.
Food was good and plentiful and the breakfast was fabulous.

Absolutely loved our stay here. Super attentive staff, room was very well kept and huge, and location was ideal. Only downside was there is no AC in the room so it was a bit warm at night but nothing terrible. Would definitely stay again.

Terrific location for walking to Olde Town, New Town, Waverley Train Station, and easy Tram to airport. Very pleased with accommodation!

Short stay for wedding. Minor issue with no bath plug; resolved next day. No where to leave toiletries as bathroom basin drawer broken; used edge of bath. With minor issues relating to condition/maintenance resolved this accom would have received a perfect 10/10. The staff were amazing - a fairly young team who were all v attentive and pleasant - a credit to the hotel. I asked for a reduction in breakfast and without hesitation this was given in full - again great customer service from front desk.

Room was in the basement. Very noisy. Heard street traffic all night. Fan was broken. No elevator. Advantage was convenient location. Would not stay there again.

Great staff. They need to have an elevator

Gorgeous old hotel, refurbished. Modernized bathroom. Staff are incredibly kind & helpful. Great breakfast. Note no elevators, but staff carried my bags up. Charming neighborhood.

First of all, I know this is an old building.
I get that. And I read that there is no elevator. However, we were on the 4th floor, so lots of stairs to climb every day.
Problem #1: the hotel exterior was being refurbished, so workmen were HAMMERING ALL DAY. Shame on them and Hotels.com for omitting that fact.
Problem #2: No air conditioning. Temperature was 22° celcius and all they had was a cheap noisy floor fan.
Also: restaurant was closed (surprise).
Also: mattresses were terrible. TIME FOR REPLACEMENT.
Also: no coffee maker, no fridge, no closet ( small wardrobe with those stupid hangers)
Also: filthy window; cheap plastic chair, loose drain in shower, key cards stopped working.
Positives: nice bathroom. Pleasant staff and good housekeeping. Good location, many restaurants in the area.
Despite hot weather, radiators in lounge were on.
Because of work, scaffolding on outside of building, blocking view from windows.
Outdoor terrace seemed to be not in use.
Asked for king room, room we were offered had 2 flimsy single beds !!
Then asked for downgrade and thankfully saved £30 per nite.
Many hotels in area, you can do better. Felt like we were there in the "off-season".

We were unaware that there were no elevators. The hotel was in a great location. We were promised discount voucher for parking and never got one. We asked for them 5 days in a row.

I thought the room was a bit small and basic for the price. Shower was incredibly small. Staff lovely and position good, bed comfy.

Stayed in the suite which was interesting - including a hilariously oversized bed which turned out to not be overly comfortable. The room was warm and clean however. A usual design choice was that the bathroom had no doors, so you’ll need to make sure you and your partner/friend/travelling companion are fine hearing each others ‘business’. The fact the room opens directly onto the stairs mean any noise in the foyer travels straight up, so can be noisy. Overall had the feel of being designed by someone focused on aesthetics/instagram rather than practicalities. Breakfast was fine.

Our window wouldn’t lock and there was access to it by some stairs. There was a gate at the top of the stairs that was supposed to be closed and locked. It was wide open. When we asked the front desk if there was a way we could lock the window she first told us it was fine and we were safe. At that point we didn’t know about the gate so when we went back in to tell her she seemed a little annoyed and said “if you’ll feel safer I’ll get it closed right away”. When we came back from dinner and checked, the gate was closed but wasn’t locked. We were worried someone would come down since it was a pretty busy street. For how much we paid I would have expected to feel a little safer.
All the other staff was very friendly. And that same employee was friendly as well, we could just tell she was a little annoyed.
I did like how big the bathroom was. However there was hardly any shelving to put our things on. It is also apparently supposed to be handicap accessible but there doesn’t seem to be any way for anyone in a wheelchair to get down to that room. So if they’re advertising that they are accessible, they really aren’t. And it’s just kind of inconvenient to have such a high toilet.
