Beautiful, historic building. Excellent location to walk to most museums and restaurants.

Past its faded glory. Still has character but the whole facility is very shabby and worn. We asked for a quiet room and were given the choice of two. Picked one, turns out there is a night club next door which blared extremely loud music until late.

Very comfortable classic hotel in great location. Staff very helpful. It's dated but charming. Have stayed there many times. Could be a movie set.

Stay somewhere else in Mérida. We moved to a different hotel eventually. The staff here are rude, unhelpful and dismissive. The hotel is beautiful inside but it has none of the amenities listed available. The rooms are old and need updating - bathroom smells and also needed refreshing. Our toilet broke on our last day staying here. This could be an amazing place to stay in Merida close to all attractions and easy to walk to nearby restaurants and parks. But the staff and lack of any real hotel amenities really ruined the trip for us. You will find many nicer places to stay in Merida - choose somewhere else!

We have stayed here several times. Located in Centro and a walk to most activities and attractions. No restaurant in hotel but PLENTY of options within 200 feet! Romantic and secluded in a small square, this is a great hotel for couples.

Beautiful 1901 luxury hotel, renovated several times, still plenty of charm, marble staircases, elegant woodwork. Great staff and perfect location. Stucco etc. crumbling in a few places, but not bad considering age and climate. A bit noisy in outside rooms until midnight. Would stay again!

Location for sightseeing is fine. In the night music is playing in front of the Hotel, that is sometimes noisy.

This is a very old hotel and it shows!!!
Everything in the hotel is falling apart and it doesn’t get fix. The hotel tile is broken everywhere, the moldings are falling, there are cracks in between door and wall, and overall, the installation is very antiquated. The pictures shown are very deceitful. That is NOT the current condition of the hotel.

This is an historic hotel, built in 1901, the first in Merida. With that said, the hotel is old. We were told that the government and/or political groups do not allow the upgrades or renovations this hotel needs. Floor tiles seem to be the originals. A good scrub and painting would help, cosmetic updates and repairs as well. But the hotel is beautiful. The staff is very helpful. Location is excellent. If you want the modern amenities, don't stay here. I've stayed in similar hotels/hostels in Europe in my youth, so I was okay with this hotel. I wanted the colonial feel of the city. You have a park right outside and with a room balcony, you can enjoy the sounds of the city and nature. We enjoyed our stay here.

Charming historic hotel.

I felt like I walked back in time to the 1800’s. It is a beautiful classic hotel that has remained, in many ways, in its original condition. I liked that.

This is an old hotel with a great history!
It does not have the amenities of a new and modern hotel but this is my second time staying here. I knew this before I stayed the first time. There are no elevators so you might need to walk up to the 3rd floor. The rooms are clean and the air conditioning is great and the beds are very comfortable!!! There is a Starbucks right next door as the hotel does not have a restaurant. The staff speaks limited English and I speak limited Spanish but has never been a problem!!! The hotel is within walking distance of the Cathedral and restaurants and shopping. It located on a beautiful large public courtyard so many places to sit outside and enjoy the weather. I will definitely stay here again.

We had a great stay. Hotel is well located. The hotel is dated and older but we liked that and the room was huge and comfortable.

Gran Hotel de Merida is a lovely historic hotel in a perfect location to enjoy the many sites, events and restaurants of the very interesting, engaging and friendly city of Merida.

The hotel is an older property. Visually it looks awesome but there are quite a bit of details that need updating. The main issue I had was the air conditioning. The unit in the room is not nearly enough to cool the room down. The property is in a nice area close to the main square. I didn’t pay a lot for the room but I don’t think I’ll stay again unless they fix the air conditioning issue.

I love this historical bldg right in the center of the historical area. The building was kept nicely and beautifully decorated. There were many antiques on the ground floor. Starbucks and an ice cream parlor to the right and the left of the entrance. The parks, churches, governors office and museums nearby are awesome and free. We reserved two rooms. They were on the third floor next to each other. Spacious and beautiful. There was mold around our sink. One of the ac dripped water but we just put our trash can below to catch the water. Beds were shorter than normal. Overall, we truly loved this place.

The hotel is located in Centro, right in the middle of Merida. The furnishings were old and a little mismatched which gives a funky college dorm room feeling. The sheets were clean, there was a fridge and the AC and fan worked well. There is no elevator but the staff was willing to carry my bags up. The ‘free parking’ is several blocks away from the hotel and has limited hours so be careful when you park there to note the hours they are open. The hotel is very old and they are working to keep it updated which meant hammering and sawing starting by 8am in adjacent rooms. Sadly my room had big cockroaches in the bathroom :-( . The staff was apologetic and they addressed the roaches by spraying the room heavily while I was out; unfortunately the smell of the chemical spray was too much and I moved hotels half way through my stay with no refund offered.

I loved the we arrived very late and they were waiting for us, traveled with senior the are no elevators so downfall there, there was no hot water late night, but loved the room ,friendly staff would stay again myself, and close to city center and food

This is a beautiful hotel. Lovely architecture from 1901. Extra kind staff, very helpful and professional. Excellent location… close to everything! We can’t wait to go back!!!

By far the worst hotel I ever been.
I reserved two rooms, none of them seems remotely to the ones posted on the hotel pictures. It’s a scam!
Noisy at night and no one in reception, nobody who cares, and dirty.

Old historic hotel downtown Mérida close to Plaza Grande ideal place for tourists.

I enjoyed the colonial ambiance of the hotel with the Starbucks and Santa Clara ice cream right outside the door.

Enjoyed my stay at Gran Hotel de Merida. Close to the main square and very walkable. Down side is no elevator and the street in front of the hotel was under construction. Beautiful old hotel from 1901, beds very comfortable, good shower and wonderful AC as Merida can get very hot

We love the hotel. The only thing was not enough towels in the room. Personnel was amazing.

Amazing state to visit!! The place is beautiful and original. Wish it had an elevator ! Do recommend for the price !

Beautiful historic hotel, great location! Needs a little TLC as some of the tiles in the room floors are loose. Cleaning staff was great. Front desk staff could be a little more trained to help with tourist sites, recommendations etc. the worse thing was the bathroom in our room, the toilet seat was so close to the shower wall my husband and I being fairly tall people could barely seat. Very uncomfortable.

The hotel is very aged, in two different ways: the interior common areas have a lot of charme due to the age, the rooms instead are very old and their facilities are outdated. It’s exactly in the city cente (2 min from the cathedral), not necessarily the best area to stay in Merida. They offer free parking in a nearby public parking.

This mansion is showing it’s age. It is a great location snd the staff are great.

This hotel is great if you like vintage properties. The staff was exceptional, location was exceptional, hotel cleanliness very good, housekeeping exceptional. The only negative is the water doesn’t get hot. Only had 2 hot showers in 10 days. The shower water was lukewarm to cold daily

This hotel is a beautiful older hotel. It looked and felt like we were staying in a castle.

Unique, vintage property. Perfectly located in the heart of Mérida.

It is a beautiful building, yes Old, but still majestic. Our room was huge with three very big windows (2 of which had a balcony that we could go out and enjoy the music from the restaurant across the street-only Friday and Saturday). The beds were comfortable and the room was always clean. A HUGE plus was that the AC unit worked exceptionally well and the two ceiling fans really maintained the room cool, something very important since Merida is very hot and humid. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
I felt extremely safe in the hotel and the area.
If you like modern like a Hyatt, then this place is not for you. This is a historic landmark (100 years old) that reminded me of being in a Colonial/European museum exhibit hall.

The hotel is located at the center of the city and very close to many shops and restaurants. It is very old hotel and it has a beautiful lobby and room are spacious, but it probably needs some maintenance.
