It was outdated, tub/shower mouldy, bathroom counters too low, not standard. I felt like I was in a fire hazard waiting to happen. Kitchen was apparently under renovations, but it would have been nice to have hot coffee and pastries in the foyer area in the morning. Just because whatever they supply in room was pretty awful.

Good overall. Clean. The room service is slow a bit and there was no food service which we know about after booking and required going out for food or drinks envelopes small snacks

Expedia mentioned breakfast is included which isn’t included after we paid online and we went there it’s been mentioned to us later…Not even the bath tub was clean ….

The property is an interesting old mansion with lots of character in the layout . Our only complaint was the games room, which needs some maintenance; light bulb out over pool table, the bridge cue is missing and there is only one worn out piece of chalk. The shuffleboard is also worn out.

Great resort

Kitchen was under renovations, so no meals involved.
Walked the building, was like being in an old century home. Beautiful grounds. We coukd use the fireplace in our room, which was added bonus. Will return.

The Hotel is such a landmark and the front desk staff were amazing! The old world feel is so grand until you enter the room that was dated and in need of a renovation badly. Such a shame that the rooms are so awful to stay at such a beautiful location.

We enjoyed our stay at this place built in 1840.

Beautiful historical sight. Great food amazing service, wife loved the spa treatments and I’m absolutely coming back this winter for an ice fishing n cross country ski weekend.

Beware - not lake view. Property is across the street from the lake. You can’t see the lake from their “lake view” rooms. Price is ridiculous for this run down, mostly empty “resort”. I deeply regret booking here for my partner’s surprise 50th getaway. Never again.

Abandoned, dated

It was a girl's weekend and we had a great time. The staff was awesome and always ready to help. The buffet breakfast was hot unlike other buffets I've had elsewhere.
The was relaxing and inviting.
I've gone to the Briars many times over the years and highly recommend it.

The staff are excellent and so helpful and friendly
We enjoyed an excellent rainbow trout with fettuccine meal in Drinkwaters with the best calamari appetizer ever!
Rochelle, her daughter and sister are all awesome! And Bob the resort manager is super!

The property is located in a beautiful forested area with lovely views of Lake Simcoe. The grounds are extensive and the hotel itself is very large with a wide range of facilities (indoor pool, spa, tennis courts, billiards and ping pong). The building is evidently historical, and it would be a nice added bonus to provide information about it to guests. Most of the building is in need to renovation/repair; the hotel room is pleasant and the staff are friendly, but it is not quite at the luxury level that it advertises itself to be.

Pool was closed for maintenance. Many things in the room required maintenance. Restaurant staff great.

Slightly outdated
Service is painfully slow due to not enough staff.
Waited 20 minutes for a drink twice:(
Enjoyed the food and variety.
Would benefit tremendously from an outdoor pool.
No beach area on the actual lake to swim in.
Spa treatment was terrific.
Expensive for the available amenities.

Cons:
Paid $275 for a room, had better rooms at motel 6.
Rugs worn out, furniture had paint scraped off, bath tub had chips.
Found empty juice box and t-shirt of previous guest under bed
Food is average but overpriced, breakfast buffet was priced at $35 but worth maybe $15 for the 6 hot items it had available. Waitresses were friendly but unknowledgable in wines.
No activities

After being cooped up all summer it was a pleasure to come to The Briars. Golf course was excellent. Meals good and cleanliness very good

In need of serious refurbishing. Perhaps only COVID related, but not well looked after

Rooms need to update.
Rugs should be remove, otherwise clean.

The staff and food is excellent however, the rooms and building needs some updating.

The service was excellent. Everyone was very helpful at the front desk, room service, restaurant and the waterfront activities. The AC was loud and blowing chill air over our heads at the bed closest to it. We had to turn it off and open the patio door. The remote was not easy to read. The second night we turned it off. We were lucky that the nights were cool. It was still an enjoyable stay for the 3 of us.

A little get out of town- in town vacation. Quiet area, with beautiful aesthetic. Will visit again.

The location is spectacular and the buildings have so much character. The spa is fantastic as is the food.

It’s so hard giving this place a review because there were many great things but also not-so-great things about it. I’ll start off by saying the exterior property is absolutely beautiful. Reminds me of a castle, almost. However, the interior is a different story. Our room was musty, old and dirty. We found mould in the coffee machine and our night lights weren’t working. The shower grout had lots of mould around also, making it gross to take a shower. I will say the staff and breakfast sorta made up for the gross room but this place needs a serious renovation.

Fun, friendly, helpful staff. Room and main areas were immaculate. My teenage son and myself immensely enjoyed the activities and the relaxation. We loved the food, beautiful gardens, lake and the historic charm. I had some last minute changes and was accommodated without hesitation. We will definitely return!

If you stay here for the first time, you will like it. If you have stayed here before, you will notice that it has changed since being sold 2 years ago.
The indoor pool was closed. The nice old dining room was not being used. The large outdoor pool was closed. The small outdoor pool was not clean. The food was good but not great. They actually gave you a bill for $0 for your buffet breakfast that you had to sign. For what? So you could give $0.25 for being served a cup of coffee?!!! Ridiculous. There are plants growing out of the gutters.
Spa was great as usual. Loved the trip in the boat around the lake and the use of the canoes etc.

The stay was good. Meals were excellent and room was comfortable. The only issue we had was communication around breakfast... I asked at the desk in the evening and was told it was 8 to 1030... when we got there we were told 8 to 10, so a few in our party missed breakfast... some printed reference documentation at check-in would have been nice.

The stay at the Briars was great. The grounds are very nice and the food was amazing.

We were there during a heat wave so it was difficult to take advantage of the outdoor activities that are available at the resort. However, the beautiful sunset witnessed from the dock of the private beach made up for it! It’s a great place if you want to relax and are in need of some peace and quiet.

Was up for an event and had an enjoyable stay. Food was fresh and delicious...the service was friendly and excellent. There’s a lot to do on the property and surrounding area....very scenic & relaxing. To be honest, prior to our stay when calling we weren’t given the best impression and felt that some of the staff wasn’t that friendly or helpful but it certainly was different when there in person. I would consider coming back for another stay.
