Excellent Hotel on a quiet street, but only 5 minute walk from the busy and charming Colonial Zone.

A very different hotel compared to others we have stayed in due to it being housed in the old governor's house. We enjoyed our time there and it was ideally located for the colonial district.
One downside was due to the directions the hotel sent us for vehicular access. It would have been more useful (we arrived in a hire car, not a taxi) if the directions had taken us to the hotel car park.

Great location.

The hotel is located in beautiful historic building with nice courtyard and lobby, but the guest rooms all had heavy moldy smell. I checked 4 rooms they all smelled like that, I had to pick a less smelly one to stay. After 1st night stay I started coughing and I had to take allergy medicine! After I checked out of this hotel and arrived in Punta Cana, when I open my luggage all my clothes even the suitcase itself had these terrible moldy smell. that’s how bad it was.
The breakfast was ok but the breakfast staff lacked attention to customers and some of them were very unprofessional. I asked for sugar for my coffee, the waitress wouldn’t go to the station to get the sugar set for me instead she just grabbed the sugar set from next table even there were customers still eating their breakfast.

Best spot in zona colonial. Close to everything in the area, museums, restaurants, bar, parks.

Wonderful and beautiful hotel with excellent location. Don’t bother paying for breakfast, it is uninspired and expensive. In fact stay completely away from the restaurant - they delivered a paella that took them over an hour, and made is horribly sick. No offer to take it off the bill at checkout. What a disgrace for a place like this.

This is a gorgeous colonial building maintained in pristine condition. All of the staff were extremely attentive and yet unobtrusive. We had an absolutely wonderful 2 night stay in this historical hotel.

Excellent location for walking in the colonial zone. Beautiful historical building. It’s a sight by itself. I would not stay elsewhere.
Negative: WiFi stopped working in my room. I used the next room’s WiFi as the password was easy to guess. They did not repair my WiFi despite me reporting it. There is a separate WiFi on hotel premises (not in the room) and it worked fine.
I had good dinners for a very reasonable price. You could ask for house still water ( not tap) at the restaurant so that they don’t bring the expensive imported bottled water.
Good breakfast.

Road construction in front of the hotel complicates access to the entrance.

1st of all we were not informed that there is major construction going on outside of the hotel and the roads are blocked. It took us 45 mins to figure it out. No n one took reponsibility as well for no communication. Room they gave us initially had a bad smell. On complaing they showed us another room where we saw cockroach and showed to the bell man. Finally they gave us better rooms. It was not a pleasant stay. To get our car we had walk though the service area and then through back door. This was our 3rd stay at the hotel as we had always loved the location and service but this time it was terrible.

This is a great hotel that we keep coming back to. However, this time the check-in personnel was confused, couldn't find my reservation and did not give off a particularly good customer service vibe.

The property is stunning. The staff, including Dianiela at the breakfast buffet was extremely kind and attentive. The mojitos are delicious.
Cons -
- They give you a card for a free drink that states it is applicable for all cocktails at the mojito bar EXCEPT for beers. I went to the mojito bar and ordered a mojito just to be informed that mojitos aren’t included so that was misleading.
The bathroom towels had a very bad smell.
Otherwise the hotel is located in a good location, within walking distance to the key attractions and dining options in the area. I think this hotel is overpriced for what is offered.

The property was full of prostitutes. The property was extremely noisy at night til 3am, as noisy as a nightclub. We had to change room at midnight because the room was so noisy. To be clear I double checked with hotel staff and guests who had hired the prostitutes that they was indeed prostitution going.
The hotel staff receptionist also promised a refund as a result of this but now has LIED about it and said they didn’t. Literally gaslights guests.
A disgrace of a hotel.

Nice hotel.
Very dark front street while waiting for an Uber at 4am while front desk of hotel was asleep in the sofas.
Did not get a receipt from hotel. They said that Expedia would provide one, which was strange. Now I don't have a receipt for my travel expense report

I can’t say enough about this historical hotel. Mom and I stayed for 3 days on a whim of a trip and we were treated like family the minute we walked in. The bellboys were great at guiding us through town and getting us a taxi for our many little stops we needed to make. The bartenders were also so kind and friendly .
It felt like we were home and I would most definitely recommend staying at this historical and centrally located hotel anytime.

The property is very nice. Staying at such an old building, yet with modern upgrades without compromising its history, is an unforgettable experience. Employees were very responsive, very well trained, perhaps a bit too formal, but I guess it has to do with the image that the hotel wants to portray.
Breakfast was excellent, many choices and very nice employees; a pleasant experience.
There is plenty to do around the hotel, including many places to eat and many museums. We could not visit "The Alcazar de Colon" as it is being repaired.
On our first morning and while still in bed, I could hear several members of the cleaning staff chatting outside the bedroom. I stood by the door and reminded them that there were people resting, and asked them to be a bit more considerate; they moved away right-away. Again, nothing major, kind of lack of common sense, but something that the hotel should address with the staff.
Access to the hotel was very difficult as there is construction around it with the only inbound street closed, and no "detour signs". The alternate access is a one-way narrow street with cars parked on one side. Thus, it is almost impossible to access. This is not the hotel's fault, but something they might want to discuss with whoever is coordinating this project; perhaps not allowing parking on the alternate access while the inbound street is closed?
An overall positive experience, a great place to stay in Santo Domingo.

This is a lovely hotel in a beautiful part of town. An old converted structure, they’ve done a nice job updating with modern amenities while still retaining the historical features. Would def stay again.
