About this house rental

Nestled in Pacific Grove, this lovely house for $195 per night is a great option for your next vacation. Sanctuary Vacation Rentals is proud to present "Huckleberry Hill"! This home sleeps up to 3 adults or 2 adults and 2 children. This historic 1,094 sf home was hand-built by celebrated artist Ellwood Graham, an artist with ties to John Steinbeck**. It was built by the artist to be asymmetrical and in true mid-century style celebrates the natural world with redwood and a great many windows. One remarkable feature is the tile, brick and stonework on the floors, as well as the copper and brick decorative fireplaces. The Monterey Peninsula features ample walking and biking trails, attractions like the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Pebble Beach, and Carmel. Beautiful sights and beaches await! Enjoy golf, shopping and fine dining to make your vacation complete. Living Room The asymmetrical mid century living room looks out onto the garden through a bank of windows that flood the space with light. The floors are adorned with unique brick and tile laid by the original builder. The room is filled with comfortable seating and a large flat screen Smart TV with Comcast cable and handmade brick and copper decorative fireplace, now filled with candles. Antique wooden double doors lead to the garden. Kitchen/Dining Area Adjoining the living room is a fully equipped kitchen with an open plan dining area with seating for four. Enjoy a glass of wine with the chef at the kitchen bar with seating for one. Sip your morning coffee in the light-filled breakfast nook looking out into the garden. The kitchen includes both a conventional drip coffee maker and a Keurig® single cup coffee maker. Bedrooms and Bathrooms The bedrooms and bathroom are a few steps up from the main living space. Bedroom #1 has a California king bed, a brick and copper decorative fireplace with battery-operated candles, a flat screen Smart TV with Comcast cable service, and access to the rear garden. Bedroom #2 has a full bed, a built-in Redwood desk and an armoire under a lofted ceiling. A Dutch door allows fresh air and light into this cozy space. A full bath with a shower is located down the short hall from both bedrooms. Step down from the hallway into this unique, vintage bathroom, as full of character as the rest of the home. (The shower is a bit smaller-scale and may not be suitable for larger folks.) A stacking washer and dryer unit is in the home. Back Yard A garden patio is located behind the home, made with antique brick and stone and seating for four. In addition, you’ll find two raised decks and a gas BBQ grill. The property is in a quiet Monterey neighborhood full of mature trees. Parking Off street parking for 1-2 cars and street parking in front of the home are available. Well-behaved dogs are welcome with pre-approval, an additional pet fee and a signed pet addendum. **This historic home was hand-built by celebrated artist Ellwood Graham. Both Graham and his wife, who painted under the names Barbera Stevenson and Judith Deim, painted portraits of John Steinbeck. Steinbeck was a friend and spent time writing parts of Tortilla Flat in this home while being painted from varying points of view by the couple. Ellwood Graham gained early success as the first Abstract Impressionist in the West and became Nationally known as the first modern Pictographer. The whereabouts of his painting of Steinbeck is a mystery. Graham’s wife’s painting of Steinbeck (painting as Judith Deim) can be found at San Jose State University.
