Amazing coastal 5 bedroom, 3 bath home on ~3\/4 acre Falmouth Foreside, Maine.

About this house rental

Just minutes from the city of Portland, Falmouth Foreside has a unique charm. Cross the bridge spanning the Presumpscot River and pass by cozy homes along Route 1 and the unassuming entrance to the beautiful Maine Audubon headquarters where the road diverges. Take the road less traveled to Falmouth Foreside's main artery, Route 88, which veers to the right immersing drivers in a lush green landscape leading past Donald Ross designed Portland Country Club one of three championship golf courses in Falmouth. Upon turning onto 88, known as Foreside Road, one immediately grasps that they have entered an exceptional kind of suburbia—a place of natural beauty, tranquility, privacy, and yet still within reach of the urban center. Unlike most suburbs, Falmouth Foreside is nestled along the coast. Hints of the ocean are scattered throughout, from the affordable live lobster prices at the Town Landing Market to the crisp whites and nautical blues of the yacht club signs along the road and the scent of salt in the air. From our home you can smell the ocean and hear foghorns yet you are still very close to Portland and the airport. In fact, just minutes away from the city you can skip the car altogether and jog or bike into Portland’s famous old Port. Falmouth Foreside has long been a magnet for summer visitors primarily due to its prime location. The entire neighborhood exudes a cohesive, classic New England atmosphere, starting with the perfectly stoic stone Episcopal Church near the beginning of Route 88. Glimpses of the steep, rocky coastline are visible through these trees, offering panoramic views of the vast expanse of the ocean, dotted with hundreds of boats of all kinds during the summer (there are 1,500 boats in the anchorage). The significance of boating in Falmouth's history cannot be overstated, as it serves both as an economic driver and a beloved pastime. Presently, the Foreside is home to three bustling boat landings, Town Landing, Handy Boat and Portland Yacht Club. Falmouth Foreside possesses a timeless, refined beauty and the presence of water imbues people with a carefree spirit and joy at the good fortune of residing so close to the ocean. Like many others on the Foreside, we frequently took our dogs for walks at the Town Landing public beach, just a short distance from our home. A typical summer afternoon means the temperature is warm, the wind moderate, and the rocky beach bustles with activity. Near the shore, children in small sailboats follow their instructor like a group of ducklings. People can be seen kayaking, paddleboarding, and rowing. Beyond these playful vessels lie countless boats of various shapes and sizes, making it difficult to discern those in motion from those at rest. Casco Bay and its islands are practically an extension of our neighborhood. After a great day, simply walk across the street to the Dockside Grill at Handy Boat marina for a refreshing drink or dinner. Take a seat at the sleek outdoor bar with an unobstructed view hard to come by at any Portland eatery. You are so close to the ocean that you can see it, hear it, smell it—almost taste it. Happy patrons surround you, engaging in lively conversations, waving to those strolling up from the docks. The appeal of the Foreside is not just its proximity to what Portland has to offer, but the feeling that you have somehow found a secret spot - and you certainly have when staying at 202 Foreside.
