Take an afternoon nap in the cabana or sit around a campfire in the evenings (conditions permitting). Most of all, you’ll want to relax in the restorative waters of the authentic Japanese “onsen”. Nestled in a grove of mature maple, fir and arbutus trees, this spacious cedar hot tub will make your visit to super-natural Salt Spring Island complete. New for fall 2023, enjoy our new cold plunge for a unique hot/cold spa experience! During your stay, I will communicate with you mostly through email and AirBnb text messages. You can also ring the doorbell at the front entrance of the house and we will respond immediately if available. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to make your visit more enjoyable. We are located on a quiet road in a rural, mountainous area of Salt Spring Island. Expect to encounter free-range sheep and chickens from nearby farms and a family of deer crossing the property. There are regular sightings of eagles, ravens and butterflies in the sky. Owls are rarely seen — but are often heard “hooting” to one another as they hunt down through Cranberry Valley at night. Our road is part of the popular “Blackburn Loop” — perfect for an hour-long, country walk or run. We are convenient to other walking paths and trails in and around the Cranberry Valley, including Mt Maxwell, one of BC's most spectacular viewpoints. Location We are located in the geographical centre and mountainous area of Salt Spring Island - just a three-minute drive from the restaurants, shops and ocean-front boardwalk of Ganges town. The main ferry terminals, Long Harbour and Fulford Harbour are 10 to 15 minutes away, respectively. Getting Around Cycling - Salt Spring is a large island with varied terrain - flat to mountainous. There are few cycle paths and the roads are narrow, winding and usually one lane in each direction. The speed limit outside of town is 80 km/h. For these reasons, cyclists on the island usually opt for an electric bike (available for rent in Ganges). Bus - There is bus service, but it is infrequent and runs only in the main road between the Long Harbour and Fulford ferry terminals. Salt Spring is one of the few places where hitch-hiking is actually safe, friendly and frequently used by locals. Taxi - We do not offer a transportation service. But if you are going out for a night on the town, taxi service is available. All things considered, to get to our location, and to access the best sights on the island, your best bet remains travelling by personal vehicle. What to Do and See Salt Spring Island, BC, is the largest of the southern Gulf Islands and affords a great variety of sights and activities. Delight your senses by strolling through an aromatic lavender farm, signing up for a wine-tasting tour or by visiting one of the many local art galleries and pottery studios. Enjoy the panoramic ocean views at Ruckle Point Provincial Park. Hike up Mt Erskine and be charmed by the fairy doors along the way. Swim in the sea at Vesuvius Bay or spend an leisurely afternoon at Cusheon Lake. Saturday Market Not to be missed is the bustling Saturday market (May through Oct). You’ll find a wide selection of beautiful, locally produced jewellery, arts and crafts — as well as gorgeous organic fruits and vegetables sold directly to you from the farmer. For Foodies Salt Spring Island boasts an impressive selection of restaurants, pubs, bakeries and food trucks. How about a sumptuous sundae at the vegan ice cream stand? Or a visit to the Salt Spring Cheese Co. where you can tour their cheese-making facility and enjoy a delicious lunch seven days a week. We are happy to welcome your furry friends, up to 1 pet per stay. Please include an introduction to your pet when you make your request to book. There is a fee of $40/stay which is added to your booking. Simply select 1 pet when booking. Guest will share the following house rules with everyone in their party: Check-in time is 3 pm. Guest may check in using the keyless touchpad anytime after then. Check-out time is 11 am. Cleaners arrive at 11 am precisely on the date of check-out. Guest must have vacated by then. Smoking (including vapes) is permitted only on outdoor decks. Quiet times are from 10 pm to 8 am. Guest count must be accurate. No overnight guests permitted unless previously approved of by the host. Children are not permitted as the property is not child-proofed. One well-behaved pet per stay is welcome. As the property is rural and not fenced, we recommend that you have a tag with your contact info on the pet, in case your pet wanders off. Lost pets do tend to turn up and an identification tag will ease the process. Shoes off indoors, please. We live on an island and must dispose of all waste thoughtfully. Guest must follow our recycling, composting and landfill disposal procedures. We are on a septic system. Therefore only toilet paper down the toilet, please. Sanitary napkins, wetnaps, paper towels etc should be disposed of in the trash. Guest is required to shower before using the hot tub. There is a shower house next to the hot tub for guest use. Use only the blue towels (provided) in the hot tub area The cover for the hot tub must be replaced after use. Help us keep the hot tub area clean and tidy. Please take all glasses, pop cans, trash, towels and personal belongings with you. The garden gate (the "Sungate") must be kept closed to prevent deer and other wildlife from entering. No lit candles in the suite as they are a serious fire hazard. We provide battery-operated candles for guest use. Guest will inform the host immediately of any damaged, broken or non-functioning items so that repair/replacement can be made. Thank you for your attention to our House Rules. David & Steve
