Small traditional hotel, which is operated by some great local characters who are very knowledgeable about the local area and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Warm fire, food, cricket and traditional aussie poetry on request.
Bathrooms need a little TLC and based on our stay the locals need to provide a little more support for what could be a local treasure.

A very inexpensive option on the way to the snow. Very basic indeed, but better than paying three times as much in Canberra or Cooma, or 5 times as much in Jindabyne

Kel the owner is friendly, accommodation is the most affordable in the snowy region - the food was great after a day at the snow and caretaker Tooth recited bush poetry to the kids' delight after dinner.

The hotel has alot of potential. Cal the owner is such genuine man and was helpful and kind
Cal does it pretty much alone, with the aid of a good housekeeper the federal hotel has so much potential to be fantastic. The locals and Tooth are always helping Cal and it shows a great sense of community.

Hot shower atleast and the pub has charm.
The menu looked amazing and we were looking forward to our meals. The pizza was good. All the other dishes were awful.

The rooms are basic as you would expect and the owner is a friendly bloke that should stick to serving beer. The bar is pleasant enough.
The shared bathrooms were disgusting - not cleaned for days and open to the elements in this cold climate with no heating. The food was pathetic - they should stick to just reheating pizzas. The burger was missing its meat pattie and from the taste of them, and the look of the kitchen when I went back there to find my pattie, the grill is never cleaned.

This is a great value, quirky, friendly place. We loved it and so did our kids. It’s not luxurious but it was warm, clean and comfortable as well as excellent value for money compared to anywhere else in the area.
They provided some good vegan options too.

It was great! The Federal Hotel met my expectations. Check in and check out were easy. The room was spacious. I would stay here again. Great place to stay for visiting the snow.

Room is clean and comfortable. Price is cheap. Staff were really nice and accomodating. They have karaoke too which we enjoyed. Location is just 1hr 30mins from Perisher.

Close to Cooma and 1.5 hours or so to snowfields. The price was very reasonable when other options in Cooma/Jindabyne etc were very expensive.
Bathroom was dirty and freezing cold. My bed was good and comfy but one of my kids said their sheets were stained and slept on top of the bedding rather than in it!
