Waterfront, no electricity, outhouse, cold water only, 4 adults max, 6 total
About this cottage rental
Situated in Woodstock, this charming cottage for $307 per night is a fantastic option for your next trip. Step back in time. Our off-grid camp has no electricity. We have a small 10cuft. propane refrigerator and a propane stove, as well as a few propane lights. We have just cold running water at the sinks and outdoor shower. The water is not suitable for drinking; it is gravity fed to the cottage from the mountain stream. We supply 10 gallons of potable water for your stay. There is an indoor 1/2 bath but also an outhouse that we ask you to utilize to spare our primitive septic system. The Lake Cottage is a vintage Maine camp set within feet of the sandy beach of Concord Pond. It has a large grass yard, with a fire pit at water's edge and a babbling springtime stream in the back yard. There is good privacy with a small camp on one side and conservation land on the other. The water front is very private with southern mountain views and a dock with canoe for your use. This is a very remote mountain pond that is quiet and serene. Boating is mostly canoes and kayaks; there are only a couple of small motor boats and personal watercraft are not allowed by the town. The entire area has no electricity which adds to the charm. A true off the grid experience, complete with an outhouse! Concord Pond: This is a tranquil pond of 135 acres that is fed by brooks from the surrounding mountains. It is located about a 1/2-hour drive from Bethel, Maine and Sunday River. Relax in this remote wilderness and enjoy the fishing, watch the moose and listen to the call of the loons. There is a shallow sandy beach that gradually increases in depth making it ideal for young children. There is a raft and a canoe. Located across the pond is an island with beautiful ledge outcroppings that are excellent for swimming and diving. This is a perfect place for a picnic; pick some wild blueberries or just bask in the sun. The kids love to gather there. Cooling breezes make this pond perfect for small sailboats or for wind surfing. Surrounding towering pines or the large screened porch at the waters edge is a great place to retreat from the hot summer sun. In the evening, sit around the wonderful campfire that is right on the shore and listen to the loons or watch mother duck and her babies. If you're lucky you might catch a glimpse of a moose. The bald eagles have made the pond their home and you'll have a front row seat to Mother Nature. The area: The views to the south are superb and include Bald Mountain and Spruce Mountain. The sun sets down the pond and beautiful sunsets are always a treat. If a thundershower decides to make its way through, there is often a perfect rainbow to behold. My favorite time is canoeing in the evening, when the pond is still and the campfires burn, watching the shooting stars. Some nights you even may wake to a slapping of the water and see a moose just out front, enjoying a meal of lily pads. There are some great hikes in the immediate area and even a very local mine where you can try your luck at rock hounding. The area is rich in quartz, garnet, tourmaline and aquamarine. There are books at the cottage that will tempt you with the treasures of jewels that lie in the surrounding hills. The Lake Cottage is a unique experience for those in search of tranquility. The Cottage: The living area is native pine paneled and has large sliding windows with screens that overlook the lake and mountains. Looking out it's hard to tell if there is anything at all between you and the waters-edge. The front screened porch is where you are sure to spend most of your indoor hours. The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, pots, pans and utensils and is suitable for preparing complete meals. For dining you have your choice of the dinette table, the porch table or the picnic tables outside. The master bedroom is just off the living area and has an antique dresser and queen size bed. There is also a small room with a dresser and bunk beds at the back of the cottage. Upstairs there is a large bedroom with dresser and three twin beds. The Lake Cottage is available for the summer and fall by the week or weekend. You will need to bring linen for the beds and towels etc. for the bath.

We wanted an electronic free vacation before the start of the school year and this cabin was perfect. We swam and paddled and hiked until the sun went down. The cabin was perfect for our family of five and provided all the necessities.

Best ever owners, property and relaxation experience. We are so thankful to Scott and Carol for allowing us to spend time there. Fishing was best ever, loon and eagle provided entertainment and lip biting drama when we thought the loom baby had been eaten. Total relief when we discovered the loons hide the baby and called in help from three other adult loons.
Thank you so much to Scott and Carol.

Isolated and peaceful
A great space to switch off in - incredibly peaceful setting on the lake. The property is beautiful, and very well equipped.

Magical place
The cottage is lovely and located on such a charming lake. We really enjoyed canoeing and swimming in this peaceful setting. The screened in porch was such a lovely place to sit and eat dinner listening to the loons. We even had a beaver along the shore gnawing on sticks for a few evenings.

Perfect weekend getaway!
This off the grid cabin was exactly what we needed to escape for the long weekend! Although off the grid, this cabin was very clean and had everything that we needed. We enjoyed so much about our stay but some of the highlights included the peaceful and still lake in the mornings, the sunsets and nightly campfires. Taking the canoe around the lake was also pretty special. We absolutely can not wait until next summer to get back to Concord Pond. I am so thankful that places like this still exist and that people are willing to share them!

Can't say enough
This place is perfect for you, if like us, you enjoy unplugging in nature. This is our second time staying at the cottage, and I'm sure it won't be the last. It is spotless, well-appointed and in the most beautiful location. This year we brought our dog, a 90 lb chocolate lab who loved it as much as we did. You can relax and swim right out the door; build a cozy fire in the pit; go for a hike nearby. It's really just perfect.

Clean and comfortable odd the grid Maine cabin
Our family of four spent an enjoyable four nights at this cabin which directly on pristine Concord pond. We spend much of our time swimming , canoeing and fishing and retreated back to the cabin in the evenings. This cabin - as all the cabins on this lake - do not have electricity which made for beautiful evenings and excellent star gazing. It’s a lovely cabin on a private spot. The cabin was very clean and comfortable.

This was a perfect quiet lake cabin to enjoy time as a family. We were impressed with the cleanliness of the cabin, and the well thought out organization and storage..hooks everywhere which came in handy. We appreciated that we could bring our family dog who may have had the best time out of all of us! It was fun having my 3 kids experience an old fashioned unplugged summer week with swimming, jumping off the dock, canoeing, looking for gems in the brook, reading in the hammock, and playing board games. We certainly didn’t want to leave!

Terrible experience from Homeaway (Vrbo) to the owner of the property
My family and I arrived at the cottage on July 4th. The owner was waiting for us there as planned (unfortunately due to 4th of July traffic we arrived later than we had hope). As soon as he approached us he started to question the number of people in our party (everyone who had arrived as we traveled together), I told him everyone there was in the agreement I had send him weeks ago to what he basically called me a liar. I proceeded to show him the attached agreement directly from the email I had send him, he denied having seen all the names there in the one he had so continue to call me a liar even though it was from the thread of emails we had send each other prior arriving. He then took me around the inside of the house and while he showed me around he kept stating that anything we broke or damage he would keep our deposit in a threatening manner. Nothing in the house was neither new or luxurious which was fine with us, we were there for the outdoor experience but to continuously threat to keep our deposit was rather offensive. We have rented houses a lot nicer and had never felt uncomfortable to use anything in it. We refrained from using anything that wasn't ours including kitchenware, that is how uncomfortable we were. I emailed him later in the day asking him if he had reviewed his agreement at home to confirm I had not lie and to ask him for suggestions on kayak rentals nearby. He never answered that email much less apologized for offending me. The night before we left I emailed him asking if we could check out a little later as we were having some complications returning the kayaks we had rented and specifically asked him to let me know so we could plan accordingly, but he didn't respond to my email until the next day when we were already gone so not helpful at all. He did add to his email the following: "Hope you had a great weekend and left the place in a clean condition". We left the place as clean and organize as we founded because that is the kind of people we are but we had paid a cleaning fee so his comment was totally unnecessary. We do wonder if we had been a white family if the experience with him might have been different. Homeaway has also been an awful experience, today 7/18 I'm still waiting for my deposit back. We didn't cause any damages to the property but I have now incurred in interest fees from my CC so the damage is done to me. Needless to say we are not going back to this house or use this company ever again.

Dream getaway into nature to get away from it all.
The property was beautiful, the view was breathtaking and everything was almost perfect! The only negative thing I would say is having to use the outhouse outside with little to no inside toilet use. Other than that I would definitely come back again .

Our return to the cottage this year for another 2 week stay was extremely refreshing and relaxing. Watching the parent Loons teach and guide their chick was very intriguing. By the moonlight we watched a bull moose feed right out front in the pond. Each stay at the cottage feels like 'coming home'. It's as if we go away for 50 weeks and come home for 2. Ahhh, if only it could be the other way around!

The cottage was everything we had hoped it would be and more. Loons, campfires, swimming and sunning. Lots of afternoon naps. Fred and Gravy put the hammock to good use! The view was gorgeous, the lake serene, the neighbors invisible, cool breezes in the afternoon to keep the mosquitos away and nice easy access to the water. Scott and Carol keep the camp impeccably neat and clean and have provided furnishings that are comfortable and charming. Each day we spent there was peaceful, undisturbed and relaxing. We really enjoyed our stay and highly reccommend the lovely lake cottage.

Our time at the Lake Cottage truly regenerates us to return to our busy lives and entertains the whole family. A perfect place to spend time with your children! (We have two teenagers) The camp is wonderful as are Scott and Carol Gould.
