Hudson Valley Farmhouse on an Idyllic Country Lane
About this house rental
Nestled in Pine Plains, this charming house for $518 per night is a fantastic option for your next break. Willow Vale House is a charming and serene Eyebrow Colonial farmhouse, located on an idyllic country lane in beautiful Dutchess County. Just two hours from New York City and 35 minutes to the town of Hudson, Willow Vale House is the perfect weekend getaway in the Hudson Valley. Willow Vale House is the perfect destination for exploring the Hudson Valley in all four seasons of the year. Originally constructed in 1763, built out circa 1850, and recently renovated in early 2018, today Willow Vale House is a tasteful blend of rustic charm and modern comfort. The house is spacious and comfortable. Upstairs there are two cozy bedrooms, each with a queen-sized bed, and one with a skylight. The downstairs space is ideal for socializing over food and wine. The living room, centered around a wood stove, is a perfect space to spend an afternoon with a good book, a late evening nightcap, or a good movie on TV. Our spacious, open, and fully-equipped kitchen and dining room centers around a Bertazonni gas range with cherry butcher-block countertops. The farmhouse dining table seats up to 6, ideal for cozy dinner parties or late night board games. If you’re looking for an upstate culinary experience, this is the place for you. The house is on ¾ of an acre which includes a grassy backyard complete with a fire pit and a propane grill. The back porch is screened in for those less adventurous, and has a large farmhouse table perfect for outdoor dining. Viewable from the kitchen window, across the country lane, and just down the embankment you’ll find Shekomeko creek which flows through our property. Pine Plains is a quaint town in the Hudson Valley, where Dutchess and Columbia Counties meet. The house is a short 5 minutes from town center where several town amenities include a grocery store, a bank, post office, and the historic Stissing House restaurant which recently reopened to much fanfare. In Pine Plains you'll also find Stissing Lake beach, just a short 15 minutes from the house by bicycle and 5 minutes by car. The Hudson Valley is also home to an endless list of incredible small towns in every direction, each with great restaurants, boutiques, antique shops, farm stores and markets, and so much more. The house is approximately: • 2 hours from NYC • 40 minutes to Vassar College • 35 minutes to Hudson • 35 minutes to Germantown • 25 minutes to Bard College • 25 minutes to Rhinebeck • 20 minutes to Troutbeck • 15 to Millerton You can travel to the area by train on Metro-North or Amtrak which run between Grand Central to Poughkeepsie, Wassaic, Rhinebeck, and Hudson, where you may be able to take a car service or rent a vehicle, though we highly recommend having access to a vehicle to fully explore the area. This is a very old house with lots of updates but still has the qualities of a dwelling built over 250 years ago. There are definitely some quirks that guests should be aware of like old wood frame windows, some of which do not open, low doorways upstairs, and a low railing around the stairwell on the upper floor. The main floor heat is controlled by the Nest thermostat in the dining room. The upstairs is heated by electric baseboard heaters controlled by on-board thermostats. For Summer months, there is a window Air Conditioning unit in the primary bedroom and another in the main floor living room. WiFi at the house is strong and works well if you need to get some work done, or for streaming Netflix on TV. Cell reception is limited, however you can use WiFi calling by connecting your phone to the house WiFi. We also have a land line that you can use if needed. The house is equipped with an outside security camera that points to the back porch.

We loved the renovated 1800's farmhouse. Kitchen was well stocked, bathrooms were well appointed. Great place for a weekend in the country!

Great location, very nice stay for two people and our dog. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking. Small yard but there are nice trails a short drive from the house. Also close to Stissing House for dinner, which we would highly recommend. The house was clean and everything was easy to use (tv, wood stove, heat, etc).

The house was clean, cozy, and perfect for our 4-person group. The backyard and firepit were nice to enjoy the time outdoors. We would love to return again! Highly recommend!

The house is exactly as described. Both bedrooms are good sized and the house is well-stocked with everything you need. The location is quiet and off the main roads of Pine Plains but less than 5 minutes from town. Was an easy drive to Millerton and Rhinebeck.

The cottage is well kept and clean but needs a coat of paint on the outside. The ceilings are a bit low upstairs which can be awkward if you are tall.

This property was absolutely lovely!
I especially enjoyed the backyard (grill and fire pit were awesome) and the amazing kitchen.
It is a very old farmhouse that the owners have renovated in perfect style - really inspiring interior design and welcoming & thoughtful touches throughout.
I highly recommend it!

Beautifully and thoughtfully furnished with everything you could need for a short or longer stay. Especially appreciated the cool art. Also really great house to bring a dog. So much getting to play with the dog on the property and the house is very dog friendly while remaining stylish and comfortable.

Stephen and Amy are spectacular hosts. Everything in the house was accurately depicted in the pictures, and they have truly created a wonderful space upstate. Their reovation of their farmhouse is both comfortable and stylish. Highly recommend.

Enjoyed the property. The kitchen, very well stocked with what we needed to cook and clean with. A few suggestions: One of the biggest issues for us was there were no windows in the kitchen or living room that could be opened. No open windows made it very hard to get rid of the mustiness from all the rain we experienced. We hesitated leaving the porch door open, because of bugs. Not blaming you for bugs, but making sure the screen doors close tightly would help. We did open the front door which we didn't realize had a good screen until late in our stay. Another annoyance for long term stays was the absence of a dresser in either bed room upstairs. We managed out of our suitcases, but absence of ceiling light in master bedroom made that difficult. Loved the porch and the firepit - both great for family gatherings. I believe many of the problems I mention could be addressed without much expense. I hope these suggestions will improve the next person's experience.

The Perfect NY Getaway
My fiancee and I were looking for a perfect place to celebrate her 30th birthday and this was it. We spent the weekend cooking in the in the amazing kitchen or relaxing in the living room next to the woodstove. The farmhouse was amazing, especially the soaking bathtub. We will definitely be back.

The farmhouse was cozy and comfortable with all the necessary amenities for a snowy getaway. The terrain nearby, for walks or drives, was beautiful, among the prettiest vistas I've seen in the Hudson Valley. Pine Plains has a nice choice of restaurants for takeout, and Ancram and Millerton are close by as well. My only suggestion: More lighting, though in longer, sunny days that wouldn't matter as much. All in all, I would recommend this spot to friends.

We can happily recommend this property—a lovely, rustic chic 18th century farmhouse surrounded by cornfields that preserves the original charm of the old home while being updated in just the right ways. The owners clearly have a good eye for design & art. The large eat-in kitchen and the 2 bathrooms are modernized with style and convenience. The area is bucolic. The nearest neighbor is far down the street (which is a little-traveled country road), and there is a sophisticated French restaurant called Stissing House only 5 minutes away in Pine Plains. Easy access to Millerton, NY and Sharon, CT. The owners were accessible and friendly. We had no troubles renting, checking in, or communicating with the hosts. Only challenge is cell reception at the property, but the WiFi is very strong. If you are looking for a rural getaway in the Hudson Valley, this 2-bedroom home is an excellent home to escape to.

Wonderful country experience
We had a great time at the house, where we stayed as a family of four for two weeks. The house is very clean, well decorated and charming. We found few trails around and loved the area. Looking forward to be coming back!

Upstate New York Defined - Quaint and Quiet
This farmhouse has maintained the quaintness of times long gone yet has amenities that made our return to the house each day after exploring the Hudson Valley area feel like we were being welcomed home.
It is well located between all of the towns on our visit list: Millbrook, Rhinebeck, Hudson, Red Hook, etc. allowing you to shop for fresh produce, meats and cheeses and then come back to the farm to put on a meal. Or, if you don’t have any energy left in you after visiting the orchards, farm stands and wineries, then there is a wide variety of restaurants within a 1/2 hour drive.
We had four people in our party which felt like the perfect size of occupants for the house. We hope to return next year.

Lovely, peaceful, tasteful property
If you're looking for peace and quiet in a beautiful country setting, this is your place. Tastefully furnished, comfortable, with a homey kitchen. As remote as Pine Plains seems to be, there are plenty of great places to eat, plenty of charming little towns to visit.

Wonderful Hudson Valley Break
This is a wonderful house in a very beautiful, quiet area. The kitchen is a cook's dream and there are great country walks right out the front door. Its clear that the owners are carefully transforming this charming property. Access was easy and Stephen was responsive and helpful. My only suggestion is that It would be nice if screens could be installed in more windows and storm windows removed in the summer.

Super lovely and charming
My husband and two girls were very comfy here on our short weekend getaway. The farmhouse has a contemporary but cozy interior with lovely charm and amenities. All we needed was available and we look forward to a time where we could come back and use the screened in porch and outdoor fire pit. Thanks for taking careful of us!

Totally enjoyed by all. Only thing that was not perfect was that there are ticks in the woods. Probably should have expected that.....

Beautiful, chic, smartly updated country house near a sweet little upstate town.
From the outside, which maintains its rustic charm, you would not guess what awaits inside. The owners have created a wonderful mix of modern and rustic that is a pleasure to behold. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our pup loved the backyard perfect for romping and playing ball. We slept like babies. So quiet and dark. A wonderful weekend in the country.

Tasteful, thoughtful, minimal home with plenty of character.
Had a wonderful weekend getaway at WillowVale. The house was charming, the hosts were accommodating, all the details were thoughtful, and the area was lovely. The little creek would have been perfect if it were a hot weekend. Would definitely go back!

Perfect weekend stay!
We just returned from a perfect weekend at Willow Vale House. The hosts were very communicative and accommodating during our stay. Just two of us for the weekend but I could see this home being great for a family or group of friends. The living room, huge kitchen / dining room and large screened in porch are all very comfortable spaces to relax and enjoy time at the house. The home has just undergone an extensive renovation--bathroom and kitchen are pristine. It's obvious the hosts have put considerable attention to comfort with nice linens, bath products, furnishings, and a well stocked kitchen. This historic home has its quirks, but the minimal interior and quiet setting make for a great vacation spot not to be missed.

Lovely, Renovated, Country Home
We stayed in this lovely country home for a week while dropping our son off at a nearby college and exploring the area. The location on a very quiet country road in Pine Plains is ideal for exploring Millerton and the Harlem Valley Rail to Trail (15 minutes to the east) and the Rhinebeck/Red Hook area (20 minutes to the west). Stissing Lake is 5 minutes away for swimming. We loved the charm and quirks of this 250 year old house that has been beautifully and simply renovated with high quality appliances and fixtures and a well-designed bathroom with a great shower. The beds were very comfortable with nice, new linens throughout. Most importantly, the house was spotless. It rained ALOT during our stay so we were glad to have such a bright, comfortable home to enjoy reading books. Stephen and Amy were wonderful and easy to communicate with and their description of their property is very accurate. They've done a great job maintaining the charm of this older house, while making it clean, stylish, and modern at the same time. We had a great stay!
