Waterfalls on the East side of the island.A day trip south takes you to Punaluu Black Sands Beach, the cliffs off South Point and Green Sands Beach (Mahana Bay). BAD: The toaster did not work very well. The dish rack was rusted. The shower mat was gross. The bathroom floor needed to be cleaned. There were some ants in the microwave stand. I re-cleaned the shower as it was not to my standards, but it was not overly bad. I was glad there were cleaning products underneath the sink. The hill to drive up was a bit of a climb. Better signage for the house would be good. GOOD: The view was awesome. The grounds were great. The bed was very comfortable as were the pillows. The water pressure was good as well as the drain in the shower (I hate standing water). Lots of little treats (snacks n coffee). Overall I would recommend but if you are picky it might not be for you.

Perfect for the two of us, this cottage (a diplex with a garage between the untis) is in the coffee countryside above Kailua Kona. Had everything we needed for our stay. Owner was terrific and even helped us when we had two flight cancellations for our return home. TBH, the first time you do the steep driveway you may think “ are you kidding me?” But after that first up and down you are a pro. Would stay there again!

One must read reviews and look at the map to know this is a rural place that on your first trip in seems a long way out, but then on subsequent trips the drive is also enchanting. Lori's good directions are definitely needed.
The other side of the carport is a house with long term renters and they are very nice and quiet-(If you see them at all)
The place is very very clean and seems newer. Great bed and sheets.
The high up view is great and we often just moved the comfy chairs to the side in the shade and enjoyed the view or read.
We would give this 5 stars but for something entirely out of owner's control. (This unless the owners-who seem to have neighborhood influence- "explained" things to some neighbors)
Apparently every once in a while a neighbor 100 yards away up the hill likes to demonstrate that their subwoofer can rattle windows for 1000 yards. Everybody has had "that" car role up next to them and the bass drives ya nuts. Well, these type of people have to live somewhere!
OK, with that part over with, if you have a rural bone in your body, one must buy some carrots for both the horses. (owner says ok). Safeway has a big bag of them. Both horses mean a darker mare on the other side of the fence--- to the side and below. And the gelding, in the picture, uphill. The mare (Poloni) seems a bit older so we cut the carrots smaller for her. Chief is a gluten so the pieces can be bigger. We lifted the electric fence and crawled under so as not to take the chance of them reaching too far over and getting zapped. Just use an open hand-- they are so gentle.

This Holualoa "Country House" is a modern day alternative to the Honaunau Place of Refuge, for you will find safety, peace and serenity in this well equipped, clean, and fully functional apartment. The facility is well defined on VRBO, and the ***** star rating is accurate. We spent a month here and would recommend this rental for those wishing to escape tourism overload.

We stayed here for three weeks. It was the first place that we have stayed in Hawaii that didn't have at least a few bugs. That was greatly appreciated, by the wife. Everything about the house was immaculate.
While our relatives in Kona were sweltering in mid day heat, we could sit in comfort on the lanai and watch the ships in the harbor. The change in elevation between downtown Kona and the property makes a very significant difference.
The property is in a gated community, so there is no through traffic, making it very quiet. There is a couple living full time in the attached unit. They have to be the quietest couple in the world. The only way we could tell if they were home was if their vehicles were there.
The property is about four miles from Alii Drive, the main artery through Kona. Access to Walmart and/or Costco can be either by a curvy secondary road, or by going down Lakos to the highway, about 15 minutes either way. (Travel on the island is at about three minutes per mile, regardless of the road, unless it's a main artery like the road to Hilo.)
This property is in a working class community, and there are the sounds of people making a living. The road to the house through the development is narrow, but it's only a half mile. People smile and wave as one pulls over to let the other other oncoming vehicle pass. I loved it.

Wonderful gem. Clean and well maintained. Enjoyed breakfast and coffee each morning overlooking the bay from the lanai.
Lori has thought of everything from a cooler to the beach chairs to the towels to the umbrella.
Fully outfitted kitchen including new small appliances. Wish we made time to try the instapot.
Thank you so much for hospitality.

Wonderful house, with a location away from the crowds in Kona. Only minutes from everything but much cooler, and it has a real country feel since it is set up in the hills next to a farm. Lori’s directions were wonderful, and she was easy to communicate with. Having the sitting area out of the rain made every morning and evening just wonderful. It was everything that we expected and more, we hope to be able to stay here again in the future.

Aloha! Good directions to get to the property, the main private road was a little tricky to find but once rolling up, all was good. The room was clean and featured a fantastic view of the west side daily sunsets. Please bring a sweater if headed there during the winter months, the upper elevation keeps everything nippy. Many thanks to our host for a wonderful stay. The roaming cows were an added bonus. Can't wait to stay again. Mahalo!

Beautiful little place that was perfect for a couple. Very clean and well stocked. The only negative was no heat. It was very cool in mornings and overnight. It did have a portal fan if it's very warm when you're there. It's also on a bumpy private road. Great location for privacy.

Beautiful view, secluded and quite, amazing sunset, we had a perfect view of a 4th of July fireworks display, a horse came by In the neighbor years in the morning. I highly recommend this vacation rental… I’ll be back for sure… Kaulia…🤙🏽🙏👍🏽

Fun to be in a rural area with farm animals. The sharing of the land was very interesting, requires a supportive community.

great little house, owners very responsive to our questions, made staying there seamless and were very accommodating, evenings were cool so no AC needed as was advertised, would recommend to friends and family

Lori was a very responsive host, the instructions and directions were right on. The place was clean and cozy. The views (ocean view and stargazing) were to die for. Would definitely come back.

Lori was very communicative prior to our arrival, giving us very specific instructions on how to find this remote little gem. It was very clean, well stocked and welcoming. It is very difficult to find, but glad we came first during the day, so when we returned at night, we knew where to go. She even rushed over in the evening to bring us extra bedding (and extra TP), since my son was sleeping on the couch. Even though it's remote, it's very close to the airport, so made it convenient when I had to return later to pick up my mom. Looking forward to our return for our last night staying there before our flight home.

The host was very friendly and accommodating. The place was immaculately clean and well equipped. We liked the upcountry location—away from the hustle and bustle, but a short drive to all the popular locations. Beautiful ocean view from the patio. The welcome gift (chocolates, water etc) was a nice touch. The only disappointment was the shower running cold before I could get my hair washed, but we’d definitely stay here again.

This rental was my first place using this service, and it set the standards for future rentals thru here very high! The neighbors were great, the view was excellent, and the property manager is the most friendly person you will meet! The app was easy to use, communication was excellent. Honestly, five stars all around. Thank you

We absolutely loved staying at Lori’s place. It was very private, secluded on a mountain top (drive to the home from the roadway was thrilling and exciting). Lori is an excellent host, very friendly, lent her time in coming over to show us the way to the drive way, made suggestions about shops and restaurants, and was very kind. If and when we return to the big island, we wouldn’t be looking anywhere else other than Lori’s place to stay. The house was very well kept, organized, all that you need from Cooking, coffee, sugar, bottles of water, personal hygiene products, linens, towels laundry in the garage, etc. Thank you Lori. Wish you the best for your future rentals. - Kannan Hema Pagal.

We arrived in Kona after dark and had no problem finding the road to this place but then couldn’t find the right house. Lori waited up for us and gave us the needed assistance. The place was exactly what we needed and in a wonderful location for us. The view was great and the nearby town was fun and interesting. We enjoyed the farmland around us and found it to be a quiet and homey place with everything that we needed, including a garage! We loved our stay and would definitely come back!

My mom passed a little over a month ago and we had all this planning to do for her celebration of life on top of dealing with the grief. I was invited to a birthday party on the 2nd and I thought it would give me a chance to take a break. And it was perfect! The place was located in the hills where it was nice and cool and peaceful! I was able to breathe and rest. An added bonus was the Ohia trees that lined the drive. It is my favorite tree.

Perfect getaway. Everything you need plus a cool mountain breeze. This host is amazing, reaches out with answers and responds almost immediately.
We hated to leave, it’s a “peace” of heaven on Earth.
