We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cabin provided a base camp for traveling up and down the coast. The pier provided fishing opportunities and fresh lobsters from the local lobster boats running with the tides. The island provides a nice beach, nature trails for hiking and scenic views all around. Basic necessities are a short drive away. Bald eagles and deer are frequently scene coming to and from the cabin. Overall a very pleasant experience.

My wife and I stayed there with our 2 adult sons. The view of The Flying Place bay was remarkable with several stunning sunsets. Couldn't have found a nicer vacation house. We all appreciated the house and site design with sufficient privacy, shared living area, 2 decks, fire pit with picnic table and dock. Had everything we needed in the kitchen and washer/dryer came in handy. Hiked the Great Wass Island loop trail to Little Cape Point, visited Machias historical sites, and Bar Harbor. Lobsters from Look's. What more could you ask for?

Beautiful property and views of the sunset are unrivaled

What a spot! We really enjoyed our time at the cottage. The sunsets were spectacular. We took day trips each day to explore all the nature preserves in the area. Hiking along cliffs at Boot Head and watching the reverse falls&whirlpool were fantastic. And of course lobster right from the dock is hard to beat.

Impeccable views, spotless property
My wife and I loved staying at Rick and Denise's property in Beals. We were happy to see that the house was impeccably cleaned from top to bottom, which was a major concern of ours given that we were traveling during COVID. And the views -- so gorgeous! We loved enjoying sunny days and quiet sunsets from each of the two decks. We look forward to staying again!

Beautiful Sunsets, Great Island Views
We absolutely loved our stay at this home. The views from any of the three decks were perfect. If it’s chilly, the view from the kitchen table is perfect too. The cabin is located on a quiet, fishing island. Everywhere you look you will see colorful lobster markers in the waters. As you drive onto the island, you are greeted by dozens of lobster boats. Everything is authenticate, somewhat rustic, and very peaceful. If you prefer natural beauty and quiet life compared to crowded tourist traps, this is the perfect place to stay. But you can drive to so many other great places to visit and enjoy the views along the way: Lubec, Possquoddy Bay, Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor and more. No matter where you decide to travel during the day, you will make sure you return to the cabin in time to catch the picture-perfect sunsets.
The owners of the cabin have provided everything from oversized towels, comfy warm bedding, all kinds of kitchenware and washer/dryer. While just my husband and I enjoyed the accommodations, this would be a great place for a family. There is no cable, but the internet is reliable and good enough to help you plan activities. We honestly did not miss the TV, and enjoyed campfires and quiet evenings.

Clean well kept property, everything met our expectations. Quiet and peaceful with beautiful ocean views. Loft was beautiful but a bit challenging to get up into for our elderly family members.

We had a lovely stay on Beals Island. It is quite rural and peaceful with the most spectacular views. We encountered a few locals who showed us such wonderful hospitality...including a local lobsterman that took us out on his boat to run his lobster traps, show us the ropes, a lighthouse, and seals. The property is just perfect! The owners have really thought of EVERYTHING their guests may need. It is very well appointed, clean, and private. We left Beals Island to visit Boston before returning to Baton Rouge, and we were so sad to leave. Our intentions are to return to this property yearly, but we will spend the entire week on Beals Island next time! We just didn’t get enough of those long, intense sunsets!

A Private Gem on the Bold Coast
Our family of three had a wonderful stay at Rick and Denise's flying place cabin. For those looking to experience the diverse natural environment and small villages of the bold coast, this is a great place to stay as it is close to lots of great hiking trails, lobstering communities, and unspoiled coast line. The cabin's multiple decks and dock are perfect spots to take in the surroundings and breath in the fresh Maine salt air!
The cabin itself was very clean, well stocked, and has all the amenities one would need. Rick and Denise were very responsive to any questions that we had. Overall, we had a great stay and would highly recommend it to those seeking to experience Downeast Maine away from the crowds.

Amazing!
What a beautiful cabin on a quiet cove with nature surrounding you. This was everything we hoped for and more. The description was spot on and they have anything you would need during your stay. Fully equipped with all the essentials to make our stay feel "like home". The outside seating and decks were perfect for enjoying the view, watching the boats check the lobster traps in the mornings, and watching the moon set into the ocean. You will not be disappointed.

Quiet and private
Truly loved the peace and quiet of this cottage. Our main goal was to have a relaxing vacation away from the tourist areas of the coast of Maine, but fully enjoy a place right on the water. This place was all we hoped for! Early mornings we sat on the front deck, had breskfast, and watched the lobster boats checking traps, evenings we watch the beautiful sunsets. The view from the dock is breathtaking. The house is comfortable, with the kitchen well appointed, full size stove with oven, I cook about 3/4 of our meals during our stay. There is no TV, but I would call that a beneft not a minus. Internet does work and I had full cell service everywhere.
There are many puzzles, books and cards available to keep the family entertained or bring your own activities. Other things to do: camp fires, hike the Great Wass Trails and many other trails and coast line on the main land, It's located about 1 to 1- 1/2 hrs fromAcadia National Park, Bar Harbor, West Quoddy Head Light house.

Wonderful stay in Beals
We were delighted with our stay at Flying Place Cabin. The outdoor spaces were wonderful and well maintained, and we caught dozens of mackerel right off the dock. Although small, the cabin is efficiently laid out, so the four of us (2 adults, 2 children) were always comfortable. What an enchanting spot! Particularly loved listening to the birds and watching the lobster boats. Very helpful information packet from the property owners. Highly recommend if you're looking for a rustic and restful location.

Perfect spot to reconnect
This house is a perfect place to reconnect! Secluded and beautiful! It had everything we needed, including breathtaking views. The photos do not do the view from this house justice. We relaxed, played giant chess, fished from the pier, enjoyed the fire pit and enjoyed the amazing sunset. Perfect spot for our family vacation!

Great place to stay, away from all the tourism hustle, but close enough for day visits to Acadia.
Very easy to book, find, and home owners are extremely helpful and sincere. Thanks for a great family vacation!

Maine 2019
We loved the down-home feel of the island and the house was even better than the spectacular pictures! The owners are great to deal with and when our car broke down in Boston and we needed to miss our first night in Maine, they were understanding and helpful as well! We left a deck of cards to go along with the many puzzles and magazines that were present in the house. Our favorite spot was the loft and it was here where we gathered each evening to just hang out and relax. We hiked the Great Wass Preserve which is right down the road from the house and spotted seals out on the rocks! The house is centrally located and we were able to drive north up to Lubec to visit the Quoddy Head Lighthouse one day and then to Bar Harbor another day! Each time we were in the car for about an hour at the most. The back deck and the lower deck are amazing and the fishing pier offers wonderful views. We were surrounded by fog our last few days here but that didn’t stop us from having a great time in this wonderfully warm and cozy get away. Thanks so much!

We loved the house, the view of the bay and the people of Beals Island...the lobsters, too
The house is beautiful and thoughtfully equipped for guests. The view from the decks is priceless. Definitely a place to return to for a longer vacation.

Spectacular water views and plenty of deck space to enjoy the outdoors. Very private.
The home is very clean and the kitchen is well equipped. Decor is tasteful and pride of ownership shows throughout. Lots of windows and skylights bring the outdoors into every room. Beds and pillows are very comfortable and linens seem new. If you don’t feel like driving far for a meal, the Lobster Roll is just minutes away and serves a variety of takeout, including soft-serve ice cream. This was our first HomeAway experience and it was very positive.

Cozy peaceful solitude overlooking beautiful wooded coastline
This comfortable cabin is on the Maine coast, with a pier reaching into the bay from a granite waterfront. 10-12 foot tides offered constantly changing waterfront. So much to see from the private pier.
The bay was peppered with lobster pots. Our visit was too short and we enjoyed ourselves as we unwound in peace and quiet.
There are two large sliding glass doors facing south toward the water that open to an enormous elevated deck! There is another expansive deck down near the waterfront. Lots of outdoor space!
We sat and read books in beach chairs on the relatively flat granite waterfront boulders right next to the water, enjoying the gentle noise of waves the and cool Maine breeze! Immensely relaxing!
The air was filled with the sweet smell of evergreens! All the senses were relaxed.
It rained during the first part of our visit, so we especially enjoyed reading in the loft of the cabin.(our favorite space). Bright and airy with very comfortable chairs. The backgammon board beckoned but we were engrossed in our books. The cabin has so many windows, offering fresh Maine air and a well lit interior. Green trees or water seen through every window.
Beals is off the beaten path and is quiet, which is what were looking for. There is a very large nature reserve for hiking at the east end of the island.
At the west end (near the bridge to the mainland) is the "takeout" which is a walk-up window and many picnic tables serving delicious seacoast food. Fresh, simple, and delicious. Try the chowder and the lobster roll. You will not be disappointed.
Driving across the bridge takes you back to the mainland of Jonesport. Very small but everything you need, including old traditional hardware stores that carry everything PLUS lots of marine gear for the local lobster boats. I do mean everything!
Acadia and Bar Harbor are approximately an hour south and Machias is ~40 minutes north. So much natural beauty everywhere you look. We look forward to our return visit.

Loved being fully engaged with nature on this retreat!
We loved our three nights in this gorgeous setting! The view was phenomenal from sunrise to sunset and beyond with the sparkling stars and moon on the beautiful and large home balcony, pier and additional unattached sitting area - plenty of outside space for reading, reflection and just "being" . We really enjoyed the welcoming simplicity and comfort of this wonderful home away from home. The authenticity of Beals Island with its fishermen and lobstering was very unique and a joy to discover on our trip. Its residents and visitors were wonderful to meet especially on our daily hikes. We even dipped in the cold ocean once! Rick and Denise Ellis were very responsive to making our stay perfect! We'll definitely return!
