This the second year we have stayed at this cozy cottage. It's the perfect home base for a week at the lake!

This cottage on Crystal Lake was perfect! Comfortable and well stocked. The location is amazing and we loved having the fire pit and accessible beach/dock. My kid’s favorite thing was jumping off the dock at sunset! We are coming back next year and can’t wait!

This house was perfect for our big family to stay in. It was big enough for our five kids to all have some space. It was clean and open and we enjoyed playing some of the board games when it rained. The yard was a little smaller than we expected and was located at an intersection that made us a little nervous to let the kids play in the yard. The swimming dock wasn’t quite what we expected either and ended up accessing the lake in the boat launch area instead.

We really enjoyed our stay at this cabin. The kitchen was fully stocked, the bathrooms had tons of towels and we never had to make a toilet paper run! We really appreciated the size and layout of the cabin, and it was in a great location, close enough to downtown Frankfort and right next to Crystal Lake.

Well maintained vacation property and super close to Crystal Lake/Frankfort! Katie was great at answering any questions we had. Home was well appointed and cozy.

We loved our first stay at Crystal Lake! The house worked perfectly for us and is beautifully updated. Perfect distance to the lake and town of Frankfort. Katie, the owner, was so easy to communicate with! Highly recommend!

The cottage had everything we needed. Access is just adequate but there are plenty of public beaches
The cottage is clean and roomy. I woukd suggest families go to Elberta, frankfort for beach. Beulah has publc beach n Crystal Lake. Many more beaches in Sleeping Bear National Sea shore. For just a swim cottage access is okay. Owner responsive to questions.

The house was very pleasant and had all the amenities and supplies expected. It is just up the hill from the lake. A short 2 minute walk will bring you to either the dock or to the public boat access. We preferred taking the dogs and swimming at the boat access. It was not busy and very broad with lots of shallow water. The house is in a good location near Frankfort and Beulah, and we took many long walks down the quiet roads by the lake. The owners were very helpful and easy to work with. TV with streaming access and good WiFi was a plus.

Very nice and roomy house.
House is nice and open. We were attending a wedding and all had plenty of room to get ready without being in each other’s way. Nice deck on back was a great gathering place for some family members between wedding and reception.

Enjoyed our stay!
My family and I had a great time staying here! Beds and pillows were comfy, linens and towels were very nice, everything was as described. Our only troubles were bad Google directions, a missing microwave, and very persistent raccoons in the trash, and everything was handled promptly by the property manager Derek! Sitting on the deck was the grownups' favorite, and the kids all had a blast with the bunk beds! I would definitely recommend this as a good place for families to stay!

Coffee & Micro
This place was very clean. There were 8 adults staying with us. The beds were comfortable but the sleeper sofas weren't. The one bunk bed was broken and nobody wanted to sleep too close to the floor on mattresses bc we found 2 tics on the floor the first night. This home accommodates 8 -10 people you won't have a big enough table to seat everyone. There were only 6 chairs. Perhaps having a card table & chairs would help. There was no microwave which was inconvenient for our meal planning. I would suggest getting a microwave & larger coffee maker. A 4 cup coffee maker doesn't do it for this amount of people. The new grill was great & put to good use. We would have loved to eat out on the deck but there was only 4 chairs & a small round table. There are random nails drilled into the deck & railing that are sticking out & should be taken care of. The shared beach access could use a little attention...weeds & grass growing in the sand. Overall we enjoyed our family time & this home met most of our needs.

Just okay......... 09/05/2018
The cottage is listed as pet friendly....but on Thursday when we arrived we noted several areas in the very small lawn that had poison ivy. We contacted Home Away and they said they couldn't do anything. We contacted the owner and he said he would have someone take a look at it and we never heard back from him on the matter.
Although the cottage was clean there were cobwebs in the bathroom and living area and stains on the area rugs and on the furniture. It seemed a little run down and unkept, missing light bulbs, rotting wooden barrel on the front deck with weeds growing. We noted that the crawl space door under the cottage was open and wondered how easily it would be for an animal to get in?? .
This cottage is not on the lake, which we knew when we booked...... you can reach the dock area by walking through the lawn area, down the wooden steps, through someone's backyard and across the road to get to it. We didn't take that route because of the poison ivy. We also had to take our little dog for walks to do her business instead of taking her out in the yard because of the poison ivy.
We have stayed in many VRBO's and this was our least favorite. You should pass on this one if you have kids who want to play in the lawn or want to be directly on the water.
It was a short drive to Frankfort and the area sites and the people were friendly.... except for the woman who was walking across the road as I walked our dog.....she took one look at me and said to the man that was with her "Don't talk to her Stan." Yeeesh!!!!

Property overrun with weeds, hammock strung between two dead pine trees, 80's tv, gas grill broken
This property would be nice if the owner would clean up the yard and cut down the two dead pine trees holding up the hammock. Also, the gas grill did not work and one of the coffee pots were broken (not sure why there is two coffee pots anyway). I was surprised to see an old tube tv in 2018 when you can buy a HD flat screen anywhere for less than $200. If the owner spent a little money to upgrade the property, it would be a nice place to stay. Also, the internet id & password should be written down by the tv so it is easy to find. It shouldn't be so hard to find these things, especially when you need them in a hurry! Owner was responsive to phone calls with info but I would rather not bother the owner when I'm on vacation. Should be easy, no hassle, rental.

I agree that this property is not for people with young children or older children who want instant beach/water access. HOWEVER, having stayed in many different places in this area of MI, I can tell you that there were MANY pleasant surprises in this house! It was VERY clean, had tons of storage space in the bedrooms and bathrooms (essential if you are staying for a week or more), had luggage racks and some hangers in all of the closets (and, yes, we've stayed in places that didn't HAVE closets - only hanging racks!), an abundance of towels (including washcloths), tons of paper goods available, hand soap at all of the sinks, fans in every room (including the large ceiling fan in the LR) and a more-than-adequate washer and dryer (although the dryer buzzer can be startling in its loudness). It is less than 10 minutes from Frankfort, we never ran out of hot water (even when using the showers, washer and dishwasher), had good drainage (which can be another issue with a lake close by) and, best of all, it's pet friendly!

Spacious Home in a Perfect Location
Great house! Nestled above Crystal Lake and an easy drive into Frankfort, this house gave us the flexibility we needed to enjoy easy excursions. The rooms were very large and there are lots of windows - there are fans throughout the home - but we never needed them, even on 90 degree days, the house stays cool! 2 bathrooms really makes a difference when you have a larger party!. The home was very clean when we arrived and it's stocked with A LOT of cook ware. I brought my own and found it unnecessary to use. The only down side was the grill, but we managed just fine.
This is a great home if you need large space. It's not ON Crystal and we weren't intent on being right on the lake, but headed to Elberta Beach and Frankfort to enjoy the water.

Great place for a family
We needed a place close to Elberta for a wedding and were fortunate to have found this home. There were 6 of us - 3 generations. The walk-in shower in one bath was perfect for my MIL who isn't very mobile. Home is spacious, positioned for cool breezes at night, but has a ceiling fan and many other fans for artificial breezes if needed. It was a warm week, but we were comfortable. Owner surprised us with the number of amenities: towels, linens, kitchenware are standard, but also has many other things available.
Great deck with propane grill, master bed good size with king bed. Second BR queen bed was fine for the inlaws. Kids used 2 of the 4 bunk beds. LR furniture comfortable. Internet reliable and fast. It takes all of 3 minutes to walk down wooden stairs to get to the dock/lake.

Great house!
The house is awesome! The house is big with lots of space to move around inside, well maintained, lots of beds, great for a family. The owners were very flexible working with us on dates. The house is up on a hill overlooking the lake, it gets great breezes (we stayed cool in 90 deg temps with no AC). Our only disapointment was the lake access - it has a great dock, but you have to go down a steep set of stairs, through a neighbors backyard, and across a mildly-busy road to access the dock. There is no beach area. Because of the location of the house, I would not recommend this to families with young children, but it is perfect for families with teens and water crafts. There is not much room for play outside of the house.
