Lydia's House, luxurious villa with indoor heated splash pool and Caldera view
About this villa rental
Lydia's House, is an amazing villa of 93 m2, located among the last row of houses on the cliffs of Oia, offering a breathtaking view over the Aegean sea, the Caldera and the other cliff-edge villages either from the small causy front yard or from the private terrace above. It used to be an old bioclimatic cave-house which Emmanouil Vasilakis, architect and owner, renovated in 2010, using high quality materials combined with the traditional methods of Santorini’s technicians. The outcome is obviously a dream house, completely adapted to the unique scenery of Santorini island, with excellent minimal aesthetic and fully functional interior spaces. The house is designed as an open space (with open bedrooms) so that you can enjoy the astonishing view almost from every corner but also to create a visual contact between the two main areas of the interior. The lights placed on the white and colored dome shaped walls as well as the lights in the pool and the floor cavities, create a unique atmosphere. The living room with the built sitting area, that can also be used as a bed, and a wooden monasterial dining table, is a comfortable and sunny space with an amazing view. A cavity shaped in the colored wall accommodates the television set. The white wooden ceiling is actually a cozy loft bedroom shaped in the dome (with a Japanese futon bed and a beautiful view to the sea), reached through a wooden stair next to the built sitting area. An arched doorway, that divides the living room from the rest of the house, leads you to a small, heated, shallow pool with a built sofa bed, which is one of the most relaxing spots of Lydia's house. Next to the heated splash pool, simplicity and extreme elegance characterize the elevated open space master bedroom. A cavity in the wall, on one side of the built bed, is used as a walking closet and on the other side, a big cave with three cavities, form a luxurious bathroom consisted of a walk-in rain shower with white pebles on the floor, a separated toilette and a marble basin, taken from an old Turkish Hamam. Finally, considering the issue of privacy, a portable folding screen can be used to block the visual contact with the rest of the house, when needed. Between the living room and the master bedroom, on the right side, there’s a fully equipped kitchen, a secondary bathroom with a walk-in rain shower, a dressing room and an engine room for the pool. On the left side, a cavity leads you to a stairway, descending to the old systern at a lower level, which is now used as a bedroom with two single beds. The main pedestrian street (with all the shops, restaurants & galleries) is on the back side of Lydia's House, so you can enjoy the privacy you need but also have the easy accessibility to the central square (3 min walk) where you can find bus and taxi terminal. You can also take a walk at the “Goulas” area (1 min walk), which is famous for Oia’s sunset view. Visiting Lydia's house, where every little detail has been handled with great taste and attention, you will experience a familiar warmth and serenity that will make you feel like home. Great location, many stairs, but beautiful area. Close to shopping, restaurants and attractions. Dani & Team were fabulous and detailed. The 3rd bedroom is in the LL cave, not ideal but it worked for just sleeping quarters. Amenities were sufficient, coffee, waters etc. No outdoor pool as many do have. Stunning views overcome all objections. I would highly recommend this vrbo only bummer was the 3rd bedroom not being ideal for adults( kiddos may love it though).

Our family of 5 loved staying at this beautiful property. The check in was smooth, Dani guided us right to the vila, gave us a brief tour of it, showed us a map of the area and pointed out various restaurants, points of interest, available day tours, etc. The Villa was well appointed and extremely comfortable. It was nice to have coffee and a few breakfast items provided during our stay as well. The location was ideal, far end of Oia so we could escape the crowds and heat and relax in our cool cave on our balcony overlooking the Aegen Sea yet still close enough to delicious restaurants and beautiful views. I would highly recommend this villa, you won’t be disappointed!

If you are looking for the true Oia experience, this is it! Lots of stairs up and down to get here (they have porters to help with luggage), but once you arrive, you will find a unique cave house that stays cool even in the heat of August with three big beds plus a couple of daybeds where it is possible to sleep. We were a family so fine with the open plan. Dani and Naiya were such great hosts/travel guides/counselors which really elevated our entire Santorini experience. From restaurant recommendations and reservations to a wonderful guide at Akrotiri to our highlight—an afternoon and sunset on a private catamaran, they just made everything so easy for us! They kept in touch via text too so we could ask little questions in real time. We really appreciated this extra level of personalization rare in a VRBO rental. You will not regret staying at Lydia’s House.

We visited along with our 3 children, all in their early 20s. Host communicated very well and ahead of our arrival. She made arrangements for our transfer to and from the home. After arrival host provided her contact info to assist with any other needs/arrangements while there. It is a beautiful, very spacious, immaculately cleaned cave home. Porters carried our bags thru the steep narrow stairways to the home and at departure too. Location of this home is perfect with view of the Agean sea from the front porch area and private deck area on top of the home. It is far enough north that very few day trip visitors come by, unlike the shoulder to shoulder crowds nearer the city center, and yet it is no more than a 2 minute walk to the castle ruins/steps to ammoudi bay or from one of the beautiful blue top churches. My family ranks this as tied with our other all time favorites. Worth paying the extra for this gorgeous location and attentive hosts!

Our stay at this property was truly the best! The hosts were above and beyond helpful. I recommend having them set up a private tour for you with Eugenia. It was a highlight of our trip to Greece. We loved how unique the property was. The view is amazing! The amenities were top notch. I cannot thank you enough!

The villa was as described, and the view was out of this world. The area is very busy, as it is right in the old town, but the villa itself is quite private and quiet.

It's a cave, y'all! Stay here! Plenty of room. Very unique property. We were concerned about getting our bags to the property with all the stairs and levels of Oia as well as being able to find the place but fear not! Our bags were taken to the villa for us and navigation through town is very easy. Everything was perfect. The hosts are very helpful and responsive.

We were very happy with our stay! The view was unbelievable and the location left nothing to be desired! Dani was so helpful with checking us in, and was responsive to anything we needed. Everything was taking care of, including the luggage over hard terrain. She even sent a wonderful parting gust to us. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a great view and accommodation in the best town in Santorini!

Vrbo: if you’re going to do Santorini, you need to do it right. This place is an absolute gem. The scenery alone is worth every dime spent, but it’s also in the middle of great shops and restaurants so you don’t have to go far to enjoy yourself. 100/100 recommend.

Lydia’s house is a beautiful cave home with a great view of the Caldera. The service was very good and it lacked no amenity. Open concept wasn’t ideal for two couples traveling together, but the gorgeous property made up for it.

We had a fabulous time staying at Lydia house for our honeymoon in Spring 2019. We were greeted (despite arriving late at night on a Greek holiday!) by the hosts and given assistance with our bags. Our room was beautifully prepared, even stocked with a few snacks for us. One of the hosts came the day after we arrived to give us an overview of the island, gave us some maps and also some recommendations and what to do and where to go. Hosts were extremely helpful and easy to contact throughout the trip.
The location is great, close to shops and restaurants and not far from parking. The room was nice and clean, and the view was stunning. We were so happy with our time in Oia, best part of our trip!!

Panayiota and a gentlemen met us at the shuttle to take our luggage and guide us to the our villa. The villa was in the perfect location, just off the busy pedestrian walkway and was quiet and secluded. The property was well maintained, clean and had basic supplies stocked as well as a bottle of wine! Panayiota gave us several great restaurant recommendations and helped arrange transport, etc! I highly recommend staying in this property or in one of the others that she manages. For a great gyro and greek salad (our cheapest meal) go to Pitogyros and for ice cream- Lolitas!

The staff who helped as hosts for Lydia's house were excellent! They helped us arrange transit from the airport, there was a gentlemen who helped to carry the luggage, then Maria made sure that we had a map of Santorini and helped us book any excursions that we wanted to participate in.
The house itself has 1 King Size bed, 1 Queen upstairs, 2 twin beds in the basement, and 2 additional single beds on the main floor. You could potentially fit at least 7 people in this house. There are 2 full bathrooms and a kitchenette. The house is charming with it's cave like style that is the norm in Santorini. There is a small indoor pool. Daily cleaning services are provided. The kitchen is stocked with a bowl of fruit, bread, a bottle of wine, water, juice, tea - they are so generous!
The rooftop provides you with stunning views of Oia, especially during sunrise and sunsets.
We were very happy with our stay here. Lydia's house thought of all of the details to ensure that their guests have a worry-free and enjoyable stay!

We had an amazing 2 weeks living at Lydia House! There are very few properties in Oia that compare to the location, setting and comfort of this house. My wife and I have visited Oia before, and wanted to bring our 5 children to experience the magic of this incredible island and town. Living in an authentic cave house made the visit so special. But the best part of our stay was our host, Manos and his associate Kiki, who made the whole experience personal and unique.
The house has plenty of room, is very well equipped and has a modern design aesthetic that blends with the 300 year old cave so well. Manos is an accomplished architect, and his mastery of lighting and space is apparent as you hang out in Lydia House. We appreciated the dipping pool after a day of exploring. The beds are all extremely comfortable. The outdoor spaces were our favorite. The roof deck offers a front row seat to the magnificent Caldera - we enjoyed many sunrises and sunsets from here! The dining table on the terrace in front of the house has equally as amazing views... Lighting candles, preparing a simple Greek salad, and eating fresh baked bread from the bakery was a favorite evening activity of ours, when we weren't eating at one of the many fantastic restaurants steps away.
Being at the end of the old section of Oia, just a few steps away from the fort that serves as one of the most famous sunset vistas in the world, is an ideal location. The house is tucked just under the main walking street, so it is peaceful, quiet and serene... but just a few steps away from the best part of the village.
Do yourself a favor and book this house!! Thank you SO MUCH Manos for such greta memories of Oia and Greece!

Just checked out and felt like we were leaving home. House was just steps away from the heart of the village and the Castle where people gathered for sunsets. Very private, clean, and oh so cool on days we came in from exploring the village. Online photos were quite accurate--no bad surprises. Maria's name in restaurants worked magic: complimentary wine and desserts, and excellent food, too. One bedroom was upstairs, another downstairs, but the main floor sleeps three. The three of us would go back in a minute!

We (my 3 sisters, my niece, a friend and I) came to Greece to celebrate my 50th birthday. The Lydia was absolutely perfect for us. Maria was a very gracious hostess. The view was fabulous and the cave home was an architectural dream! Fresh baked bread and a homemade breakfast (spanikopita, omelet, etc.) was brought to us every morning. The home was clean and well taken care of. The rose pedals on the bed were a nice touch. We would all love to come back to Oia and would definitely want to stay in Lydia again.
