We had a great stay, convenient to walk to cafes restaurants and right on the beach.

This condo was and looked just like listing described. Unfortunately the washer was broken but there was washer on site to use ( quarters required) but the dryer was working fine. The beds are not very comfortable the futon in living room was the most comfortable bed. Bring extra towels there is not enough. I did bring extra and washed a load while we were at the property. You walk right out the patio door and a couple 100 feet and the ocean is there. There is plenty to door near the condo in walking distance food, shopping and bike rentals which was super fun. We would definitely stay here again.

This condo is comfortable, clean and is within a few steps to the ocean! It has been stocked with pretty much everything you'll need for an enjoyable stay. With 2 bedrooms and 2 full baths, the price is totally reasonable! It's located in Kapa'a within walking distance of many shops and places to eat. The resort has an amazing list of activities; pool, hot tub, exercise room, outdoor bbq grills to use, games including outdoor chess, tennis, croquet, putting green, and more, along with beautiful landscape, koi pond and waterfall......and of course, the chickens!! The host, Bryan, is easy to work with and keeps you informed of any important details. Thanks again, Bryan!

Very well-maintained and equipped for a fun and relaxing vacation for all ages. It has every amenity we need. One minor exception is that we could not connect the TV in the master bedroom. However, the one in the living room worked well. We appreciate the beautiful welcome gifts, too. Future guests will be very comfortable in this unit.

The condo is in an ideal location. It accommodated our large group. The however is that it jacked some basics like enough towels and towels for the pool. It did have good each gear - chairs, umbrella etc.

Condo was perfect for our family vacation. Well equipped with furniture, kitchen utensils & beach supplies!! Having a washer/dryer in the unit was great for towels & clothes!

Location of this condo is FANTASTIC. The layout of this condo is great for a family. Basic supplies were not adequate for our family. WE are a Family of 5 with 3 teenagers (19-14) (which the owner knew as we needed to specify it when booking) but there was not enough bath towels for us to have a shower. Luckily we were able to launder them with the in house machines, but definitely not enough for us. Also, there were not any tea-towel or wash clothes in the kitchen for us to hand wash dishes. We ended up using ALOT of paper towels, which was a complete waste of money. The a/c units in the living room and bedroom did NOT work at all. We are not a family that would complain about these sort of things, and we just lived with it for the week that we booked. I wasn't going to post this negative review as I did message the condo owner and let him know our concerns over a week ago, and I have received no email back from him. I would stay at Pono Kai again, but I really would think about renting this unit again.

Ideal location to explore Kauai. Not oceanfront but 30 second walk to see most amazing sunrises.

We were told by an exterminator that the ants probably live within the wall and come out around the electrical connections.
So if you book, stop at Safeway on the way in and buy some vinegar. Use it liberally, it works.

We always enjoy staying in this condo. It hasn’t been remodeled recently, but it’s comfortable and we love the location and access to all the things we like and want in the resort and on the island. Bryan, thanks for letting us share your condo for another wonderful Kauai vacation with our family.

This condo is spacious, clean, comfortable and well equipped. It is a short walk to the shops and restaurants in Kapaa and close to beautiful beaches, including Baby Beach which is perfect for young children. The service was excellent. Due to flight delays, we arrive at the 2:30am local time and still had no problem checking in. Also, we were traveling with an infant and Bryan made sure there was a Pack and Play in the unit when we arrived. We can't wait to return.

NO AIR CONDITIONING!
No air conditioning! I missed that little fact when booking this property. I'll say it again. No air conditioning! I had stayed at this Resort before and assumed they all had air conditioning as the units I stayed in before did . It did not . Unfortunately we were there as Kauai was having record high temperatures, humidity and no trade winds for weeks. It was truly miserable. The owner was on Island at the time and brought over extra fans to help but there was just really nothing we could do to be comfortable in this condo without air conditioning. If you're like me and you just can't take the Heat, read property descriptions completely and book a unit with air conditioning. Better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it.

Can't go wrong with Kapaa and Pono Kai
We love Kapaa and Pono Kai. They are the perfect central locations to base any activity on Kauai. This is our first stay at this particular property. The spacious rooms were great and the furniture comfortable. Having a washer and dryer is a huge plus!

Nice unit
This is a well furnished unit, clean and comfortable. Loved washer/dryer in the unit, and soap for sale at the front desk!
There is no a/c, which took a little getting used too - but at least 2 fans in each room. Maybe one day the owner can spring for small units in the bedrooms?
Only complaint we had was about the safe. It was locked, we couldn’t use it and 2 inquiries went unanswered.
Location of property is ideal! You will enjoy your stay!

Not what we expected!
Please read all of the reviews before booking this condo. It is in a convenient area. The condo grounds are nice and I saw other condos that had been updated. They were very nice. As many others have written, there is needed maintenance on this condo. We had to call to have the living room slider and screen fixed as many others have also done. The one bedroom's closet door was broken and unusable. I have pictures of everything. They did come to fix it the next day but it was still shoddy work and in need of replacement. The washer was broken. It was fixed 5 days into our 7 day stay. Two of the windows had no locks on them so the condo could never be secured. This was a concern when we wee gone during the day. The local contact Larry was decent and came the first night after I persisted on the phone with him. The owner Bryan never really responded to any email. He did get back to me on one text, but then never again. Some of the other condos had AC, this one did not. They did not represent that it did. There were geckos living inside the unit. We could hear them and see them at night when you put a light on. We never complained about that as it was the least of the issues. Bottom line, for what we paid to them for a condo that was in dire need of maintenance and we could have gotten a much better one directly from Pono Kai for a few hundred more. It might have been a reasonable deal for the money, but we could have done better. Read all the reviews and you will see a trend. They need to put some money into this place.

Beautiful setting but the property needs work
The complex is beautiful, this condo needs some work. You can't check in until 4pm thats fine, but the condo wasn't done being cleaned until 5:15, not good. Several of the blinds needed a lot of cleaning since it has no AC you have to leave the windows open so dirty blinds is not good. I'm sure most properties in Hawaii have termites this one has them especially in the kitchen, not good. The cable to the TV in the living room was totally disconnected and I had to reconnect it to watch anything in the living room, not good. The Master bath toilet needs a new wax ring it leaked under the toilet my whole stay, Very not good. It is a well decorated condo, just a short walk to the beach, there are lots of left behind goodies that make you stay more fun, very good. It is in the Downtown Kapaa area just a short walk to a lot of good food and shopping, very good. The complex has a lot of amenities that are good for families, very good. This complex is a great location for most people, I would love to stay in Pono Kai again, but I would need better communication, better cleaning, and a serious going through of fixing things before I would stay in this condo.

Good apartment
The resort was primarily occupied by retirees so it wasn't as kid-friendly. The pool was mostly silent and the water was cold. The apartment had beach toys which was convenient. There was a lot of trash and broken glass on the beach near the resort. We cleaned up 4 garbage bags of trash in just a couple hours.
The bus stop was outside the resort was $2 and easy to use. The concierge told us to take the $30 taxi and failed to suggest the bus. I'm not sure why. The bus was very easy and there was more space than a car.
The apartment has some repairs to do (i.e. blinds laying behind the couch) and someone was hammering away all day outside the apartment while replacing dry rot. It was disruptive to the kids' naps and we were not told of the scheduled work.
Direct TV and WIFI worked.

Awesome accomodations
The Pono Kai was an excellent place for our family. It was spacious and the kids loved the pool and the resort games (tennis, croquet, etc...). We would certainly stay here again on our next trip to Kauai.

Two weeks of relaxation
Enjoyed the bottom floor Condo. An added item was the washer and dryer in the condo. Every thing in the condo was in good shape and there were a lot of extras for beach excursions,

Comfortable, well-equipped, good value for the price range, practical location
Well-equipped condo in a useful location, with nearby supermarkets, restaurants, and shops. We used this condo as a launching pad to activities on the north shore (such as Hanelei), had a wonderful hike up the Sleeping Giant trail nearby, and did the bike ride along the beach. The interior trim level is a bit dated, but a good value for the money in comparison to the cost of more upscale accommodations on the south shore. It was comfortable, well-equipped (including 2 boogie boards we used), quiet, and as I said a good value. We'll probably stay on the south shore next time, but if you are looking for a good value spot near Lihue, this is a solid choice
