Historic Pioneer Cabin in the Heart of Canyon Country
About this cabin rental
In 2015 we embarked to renovate this pioneer home, built approximately 1890 and 7 miles from its current location, into a cozy space with modern-day amenities while retaining its authentic appeal. It took us a year and a half to build a foundation, plumb and wire it, sand and scrub, build cabinetry from barn wood, oil and paint, build furniture, and locate period pieces that were suitable for the feel of the cabin. There is a claw foot tub with a shower handle and a large, private outdoor shower with hot and cold water. The cabin is surrounded by gardens. Stunning views of the nearby mountains are seen from within the cabin and from the front and back porches. While relaxing on the porch it is common to see tractors slowly roll down Center Street to the neighboring fields to the south. The sights and sounds of chickens, horses, cows, sheep and the multitude of bird and insect species fill your senses. The night skies are one of the darkest skies in the U.S. A multitude of hiking trails for all levels of experience are only minutes from the cabin. Escalante Petrified Forest State Park, 5 miles west of the cabin, offers opportunities for fishing, boating, swimming, picnicking and hiking. As our guests, you have access to the use of the cabin, relaxing in the gardens, and harvesting fruit or veggies for your meals when available. If you need the use of a washer or dryer, please contact us. We are willing to share our personal appliances.

Beautifully decorated in period pieces but very comfortable. Outdoor shower was great did not get to use the claw pedestal tub but it looked lovely in the bedroom. Wonderful front porch with good shade to take in the evening air. Great hiking in the area. Fresh bread daily from host. Very responsive to our needs. Would certainly come back.

My fiance and I stayed here for a few days. The cabin was so charming. My fiance gave video tours to several of her friends because she loved it so much. We were both impressed by how thoughtful the owners are. We spent one day just lounging in the back yard reading and chatting, and another day out hiking and exploring. We found the location perfect for both. We will absolutely be back.

Small, cozy, and very cool cabin. Bob is an added treat. Knowledgeable, personable and well read. Nice to meet a fellow Sierra Clubber who knew Ed Abbey.

We stayed at the Baily Cabin for a week - great location easy drive to National and State Parks. Loved sitting on the front porch late afternoons reading and watching the activity of all the hummingbirds. Kitchen set up is great - cooked 4 meals while staying there. Also went to restaurants in the area: Great mexican food at Georgies, Great pizza at Escalante outfitters, super farm to table at Hellbone Grill in Boulder. So many hikes to do in the area. Lisa and Bob were great hosts!

If we decide to travel to this area, we would definitely stay again.
Thanks to Bob and Lisa for giving us our space, much appreciated.

Incredibly charming!
A friend and I stayed over a long weekend and were absolutely charmed by it. The one thing I had reservations about was the outdoor shower but that proved to be functional and a very interesting experience. Thank you!

The Restored Bailey House
This was a perfect get-away in the restored Bailey House. It was clean, cozy and so well-appointed. The history and documentation of the restoration is so interesting. The owners are friendly and helpful; eager to make sure you have a great time. AND do not be put off the outside shower - it was refreshing after a long day hiking and, frankly, just downright fun.

This is by far the most historically unique and authentically beautiful place to stay within a 2-hour radius of Bryce Canyon. The hosts are wonderful, personable, and communicate very well (they actually care about you). Can't recommend this place enough.

Wonderful cabin in an amazing area!
We loved our stay at The Old Bailey Place in Escalante! The cabin was excellent, we were able to make a large number of our meals at home and there was plenty of space for two people no issues there. Loved the bread and we will hopefully be back for more later!

We loved staying at the Old Bailey House. We wanted to get the historic feel of Escalante that you can’t get by staying in a regular hotel. We learned about the history of the Old Bailey House and how it survived through many years and now has been renovated by Lisa and Bob for others to enjoy for years to come. When staying at the Old Bailey House you feel like you are stepping back in time, yet the amenities are comfortable and it is relaxing and rejuvenating. The bed is super soft and the claw tub hot bath is great after a long day of hiking devils Gardens and canyons. Bob and Lisa are always available and Bob makes the best baguettes and leaves a fresh one for his guests. We just can’t say enough about how wonderful our stay at the Old Bailey was and we plan to return!

Love this cabin!
We spent 3 nights in Escalante and couldn't have chosen a better place to stay. The cabin is exactly as described. The pictures don't do it justice. We especially loved the outdoor shower. Even though it was getting chilly in the evening, there was plenty of hot water and pressure. Thanks again to our host, who baked us a loaf of bread each morning. We were still eating in on our way to Bryce and Zion.

Perfect Getaway
This place was awesome. The cabin was comfortable and well furnished. Bob & Lisa greeted us shortly after arrival, showing us the cabin and all it had to offer. There was also a basket on the table with several treats, snacks and fresh bread, which we enjoyed throughout our stay. Bob also gave us some recommendations on where to explore. The area around Escalante was absolutely incredible and we look forward to returning and seeing more.

Charming cabin for two over Thanksgiving weekend
We spent a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend at the charming Old Bailey Place, a cozy cabin for two. Kudos to Lisa & Bob for being great hosts and the great decore in cabin that evokes a strong sense of history and place. Bob's fresh baked baguettes were delectable. The cabin was meticulous and well equipped. Enjoyed the birdlife attracted by the feeders, including numerous Pinyon Jays. For a remote town, dining options were great provided you made reservations for the holiday, which we did. Hell's Backbone Grill & the Devil's Garden Grill were both notable. The area around Escalante has a plethora of hiking opportunities. Thumbs up on Lower Calf Creek, Devil's Garden and the Petrified Forest State Park. Good birdwatching in the reservoir by the state park with numerous species of ducks in migration. In summary, we would highly recommend a stay and look forward to returning ourselves.

A great find!
We especially enjoyed our stay in Escalante because of this very comfortable, well equipped and peaceful place. After coming in from a day's hike it was wonderful to take either a relaxing bath (with bath salts provided) or a luxurious shower outside and then sit out on the porch watching the many birds at the bird feeders and the occasional farm machine roll by. (We were there during hay baling season.) There was a bookshelf full of books and hiking info available to read and we were able to cook all of our meals in the convenient kitchen. To top off our stay, Bob provided delicious hot loaves of bread and both Bob and Lisa gave us many good tips of where to hike, shop for groceries along with local news and ideas for interesting drives in the area. My husband and I highly recommend this historic cabin for couples coming to hike in or enjoy the Escalante Staircase National Monument and other areas in the Grand Circle. Jane and Ned

Wonderful stay!
We loved our stay at The Old Bailey Place! Lisa and Bob were extremely friendly and helpful. Bob's fresh baked bread is delicious - we enjoyed it with our breakfast every morning. The little house was the perfect size for the two of us and we especially enjoyed using the outdoor shower. It also has a great location in the little town of Escalante and not too far from hiking in the Grand Staircase. Oh, and it was wonderful getting to watch all the hummingbirds and other birds while relaxing on the front porch. Thank you!!

A fantastic place to stay, comfortable and charming!
Lisa and Bob were fantastic hosts. They have created the perfect get away for two. The history of the home is evident, but it lacks nothing as far as amenities... every detail has been thought about to make your stay comfortable, from home made bath salts, to freshly baked bread (and in my case a birthday cake) A great place to start and end your busy day of hiking and exploring the beautiful landscape. Catching the sunrise from the Adirondack chairs on the front porch is a must! I will be coming back for sure!

Great Cabin! Great Hosts!
Just perfect for a couple. Loved the vintage charm with all the creative touches. My husband and I enjoyed sitting on the private front porch in the evening discussing our next day hike or activity. Lisa and Bob were so knowledgeable about the area. They brought over some home made baked goods. Oh and the outdoor shower was amazing.

perfect gateaway in Escalante
Cosy and adorable house, immaculate, comfortable mattresse and pillows, nice layout. The owners are caring, very friendly and helpful. We loved the location: close to many restaurants and a grocery store yet on a quite block with very little traffic. We truly enjoyed our stay.
