The ranch is approximately five minutes from downtown Julian, ten minutes from Wynola, fifteen minutes from Santa Ysabel, and thirty minutes from Ramona. Shadow Mountain Ranch allows each guests to enjoy the peace and quiet of the Julian mountains, but offers the convenience of being close to town, so guests don't miss a thing. This place was absolutely amazing! Highly recommend if you plan to go with your partner. The place looked even better than the photos, and the fireplace kept us warm all night long! The bed was plump and well furnished, and the comforters were crazy soft. The water turned warm fast in the shower and the water pressure was good. All of the tourist spots were less than 10 minutes away, which was so nice! This was our very first time renting, and Julie made our experience more than perfect for us :)

My boyfriend and I had the most amazing experience at our Grandma’s attic. It was cozy, peaceful and quite affordable. The setting and views from our upstairs room were spectacular. We enjoy our morning coffee sitting outside on the deck, it was very relaxing. The property manger Julie was most accommodating to our needs and the groundskeeper Rene was very informative and hospitable. We definitely plan on returning and highly recommend this place for anyone looking for quite getaway. Thank you for a wonderful time.

The bedroom and bathroom were decent size. But there is a settee at the foot of the bed that the fabric is ripped and falling off of. (Should be pitched). Also this room is on the second floor, so we had no water pressure to take a shower. So had to get washed off in the bathroom sink. They have other rooms on the ground floor. I would suggest staying in one of them if you stay at this property. Told management about water issue and was told they would refund part of our stay, that has not happened yet. We only spent 2 nights here while visiting family in the area.

Walked in and saw that the couch was worn, stained and had rips in several areas. The carpet had rips and staples sticking out.. There were cobwebs everywhere. The outer bedding seemed dirty.
The porch furniture cushions were so worn we could not sit on them because you could feel the iron spacers. The porch roof is damaged and caving in.
I could not take a shower because of the low water pressure, so I had to wash my hair in the bath. When I was drying my hair with a blow dryer, the power went out. You cannot run the small space heater and use the dryer.
Also, you can hear every step, every sound from the unit below.
We finally said that’s it, and we left. I reserved this cottage after seeing great reviews. What I’m wondering are those reviews real? Terrible terrible stay.

In the woods
I needed a space to get away from the city, and this was perfect. It was quiet, the night was dark, and the fields were shared with birds, deer, and turkeys. Just right for a weekend of renewal.

I arrived to a field with about 5 or 6 deer grazing within 10 yds of where I parked my car. I knew there were others staying at Shadow Mt Ranch, but I never saw or heard anyone. The view from Grandma's Attic was serene.

It's not the charming place it used to be before the original owners passed away or Covid. Things change unfortunately. We still enjoyed our stay, even in a vacuum. We will beback, but with different expections. I really missed the horse in the pasture and our warm and wonderful late hosts. And those fabulous breakfasts!!!

It's not the charming place it used to be before the original owners passed away or Covid. Things change unfortunately. We still enjoyed our stay, even in a vacuum. We will beback, but with different expections. I really missed the horse in the pasture and our warm and wonderful late hosts. And those fabulous breakfasts!!!

What a charming room! It has all sorts of knick knacks, an AC, a ceiling fan, small fridge (dorm like), a microwave, TV, sitting area with a table for two with a beautiful view of the woods and beyond, a private balcony with wrought iron chairs and table.
The grounds are lovely with different sitting areas, a swing chair that my husband and I loved to swing in, and just bask in the quietness, and different props where you can take pictures. The drive in to town was along beautiful country roads where it was just us and the not so green pastures, lol.
