The location was very beautiful and I would love to give this place a 5 star review but the driveway needs to be addressed. This driveway is steeper than implied. It’s almost vertical and saying an “average driver” can navigate it doesn’t ring true. You need exceptional clearance to not bottom out. Returned the convertible for an SUV and still scraped. I Lived on a farm, I know how to drive, this driveway needs a Jeep or lifted truck. Also lots Geckos poop from resident indoor Geckos, but they are cute enough.

This was a lovely home, well-designed and full of creative and beautiful details! Communication was clear, house rules were based on common-sense courtesy, and we enjoyed ourselves. We would definitely book this place again. The driveway is steep, which was daunting the first time, but it makes sense for the location. We had enough parking and turn around space at the top which was helpful.

I always like to stay in or near Waimea when I come to the big island and this little cottage was perfect: peaceful, private, comfortable and full of books and pretty things to look at. Would definitely book again. Thank you!

We spent a wonderful month in the cottage, enjoying Waimea and surroundings. This is a great location if you like cool breezes and views of the volcanoes, with the green hills of Parker Ranch just behind you. Quiet and private, which we loved.

We really enjoyed our stay. The cottage was very cozy and perfect for us. The views from both decks were nice. The location was good and central to different parts of the island. The driveway is steep but you get used to it. Renting a SUV is definitely recommended.
Would definitely recommend staying here

We absolutely loved staying here. It's quiet and secluded with a beautiful view of the ocean and quaint town of Waimea. The beaches are so close, about 15 minutes drive. The birds sing 24/7, but not annoyingly so, and we loved their singing. This studio apartment is not small, but was much larger than we expected. The kitchen is well stocked with quality kitchenware. The bathroom is large and very private with a treehouse feel. The deck is fabulous! This home is also very clean. We will definitely return.

It was a pleasure to stay at the Captains Cottage - clean, quiet, and comfortable. Check in was a breeze, ans speaking of, the cool breezes at night made for outstanding sleep. Breakfast and views on the lanai each morning was a great start to the day. A great location, convenient to Kona side beaches as well as Waipio Valley and Hilo side waterfalls and botanical gardens. Definitely recommend, and would like to stay here again if we get the chance.

My wife and I had a wonderful time here. It is an incredibly clean property with all the stuff to feel like home. The location feels secluded and private while being close enough to anything you might need to be more comfortable. Amazing stay!

Love being in Waimea. This loft is small cozy. Like a tree fort. Beautiful. We ate in the trees on the deck with Lots of birds singing. My husband had a hard time sleeping hearing all the back and forth chatter. I loved it. Tough steep driveway but kind of a fun challenge. We figured it out.

If you want to stay close to good restaurants and beautiful beaches but skip the busy areas such as Kona or Hilo, this is the place for you. You're 5 min away from the best restaurants in town, 15 min away from beaches with warm and clear water, and still close enough to the mountains to get some of that cool air. The neighborhood is super safe, quiet and calm! The host went above and beyond to accommodate to our schedule. And the home itself is super comfortable, clean, and unique. We loved the experience and would definitely recommend to anyone!

I had a great stay overall. I ran into an issue getting into the property, but the host Jay was very responsive and called me back to walk me through how to get in. Would stay again.

I really enjoyed my stay here. You have a view of Kailua/Kona, the water and what I liked best, was how quiet this spot is. It is better situated to access both sides of the island, and only a short jaunt to Hapuna beach. The "Captain's Quarter's" had everything I needed for my week long stay. I would definitely stay again. Thank you!

The property and view are spectacular, for an affordable price. The driveway is no joke, heed Jay’s instructions! Nice and quiet!

Accommodation is really nicely set up everything you need for a few day stay in the ranch area of the island. Beautiful place with great proximity to either side of the island and water access is within reach for beaches if you choose. Balcony tables and view great for morning coffee or evening quiet. Property quietest we stayed at on island. Others mention the driveway. Indeed if you have rented a short wheel base car or jeep, you will have no problem even though it is long steep incline. We were unfortunately rented/upgraded a long wheel base (never again) and scraped on both ends of car on driveway on arrival even when going up at advised 90degree turn. To prevent rental damage further we parked at the bottom on street for rest of stay. An effort if carrying lots of bags.
Owner does not like surprises. I am sure in other peoples experiences they have had good contact, as there is so much in the area for owner to be proud of to share with guests.

Property has a lot of character and location gives some pretty remarkable views of the valley, Mauna Kea and distant Ocean. Driveway is a bit challenging for larger vehicles and could use just a small dining space indoors. Also has a very nice outdoor space. Overall a 5 star stay and plan on returning in the future. Mahaloz Plenty Jeff for your well thought out property.

It was very nice. Could use more manuals and guides to appliances and better instructions for trash, etc but that all worked out. The driveway is a real issue for a standard issue very low clearance sedan rental car. We are still waiting to see if we owe money for some damage scraping when coming & going. No problem with an SUV type and we mostly figured how to do it at the end but wife had to get out of the car. Otherwise beautiful, clean, interesting reading, wonderful view and great location.

Everything we expected and more. Very pleasant, quiet lodging, with well equipped kitchen and plenty of towels in the bathroom. Hosts were friendly and helpful. We had a question about the internet, and they promptly responded. We would definitely stay there again.

Nice place.
Really like the wood ceilings and beams.
The lanai was a lovely place to enjoy mornings, and the chirping birds were wonderful.
The place was well supplied with bedding to accommodate any preferences of pillows or weight of blankets. The kitchen had all of the necessary equipment as well as a lovely apartment of tea and coffee.
The only down was that the shower walls are a bit dirty.

Very clean, neat and comfortable. Driveway is a bit treacherous but worth it. Nice deck for relaxing breakfast. No view of Mauna Kea, but hilltop trees provide relaxing views. No washer/dryer. VRBO had not updated the intended description of the unit so we were initially confused. Manager called to clarify satisfactorily.

We enjoyed the Captain's Quarter. Well stock and very cozy. The owners are very nice and the views are great! Unfortunately the drive is so steep at the entrance, our car's front end air dam is pretty scraped up. I would suggest mentioning this in the ad prior to booking and paying a nonrefundable fee.

Great place. Listing accurate. Would love to stay there again. Just remember to take notice of the weather when you are going to be in most private rentals have no heat.(price for electric is VERY high). So remember to turn off the lights.

It was just what we needed for our stay on the north end. Handy to everywhere we wanted to go.

Fantastic property with very private space. Was not bothered by another person the whole 7 days we were there. I was a little concerned about the steepness of the driveway, but it was very manageable. Maybe I am too picky but it could have been a little cleaner. I would definitely stay there again if they would have me.

Drawback of the property is the driveway. Its steep and best for an SUV or 4 wheel drive. Turn around area is small. Other than that, sweeping views, affordable and quiet.

Waimea is a beautiful place, and this property makes the most of it. It’s high up on the hillside and feels secluded as it is surrounded be trees and tropical plants. It is quite private, but only a 5 minute drive to town. Our hosts were super accommodating and responsive. The loft is cute and comfy and has everything you need for a short or long term stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. It was thoughtfully decorated with beautiful art and interesting books. Lovely location, with distant views from the deck and front door. It was a delightful hideaway with amazing access to many beaches and a multitude of sites on the island. Also had close access to many excellent restaurants in Waimea! We would absolutely choose this accommodation again. Many thanks.

A fine, cabin like studio with a wonderful deck for coffee and meals. Everything you need for a relaxing visit, in good proximity to all the region offers. Photos are accurate and, as others have said, the drive is steep! No need for an alarm clock. Roosters do the trick!

This super-cozy cottage was perfect for my stay in Waimea. Tucked in the trees on the hill above town, it is secluded and quiet, yet centrally located and convenient to everything. This is a studio apartment, but a very spacious one, that is clean and well-equipped, with a lovely lanai and peek-a-boo views out to the ocean on one side and town on the other. Jay the owner is welcoming and very easy to work with and has clearly put a lot of care and attention into creating a delightful rental property.

Quality designed unit throughout. Well maintained. Well stocked kitchen. No inside dining table, but deck tables available. Very limited storage for clothing. My wife and 19 yr old son said they wouldn't want to attempt to drive up or down driveway. If we didn't go up carefully the wheels would spin on our front wheel drive with dry pavement. Not sure how wet would work. I liked it enough that I would be interested in buying it, but would get an AWD vehicle.

A lovely quiet gem of a cottage on the hills over Waimea. We enjoyed the breezes, outdoor balcony and cosy cottage offerings. Big thanks to Captain Jay for sharing his cottage with us! We would definitely love to stay again when in the area.

We stayed here for a short three-night visit to Big Island. The property was perfect for us. It was situated nearby many attractions and allowed us to explore. The nearby town offered many wonderful places to eat. We will definitely return!
