About this house rental

Situated in Long Lake, this lovely house for £399 per night is a fantastic choice for your next vacation. 64 Main sits on a large corner lot in the Friendly Village of Harrison, Maine. The current owner grew up in Harrison. He and his family returned in 2016-17 to restore his Doctor's former home. (Dr. Rubie Day was one of Maine's first female Osteopaths). As a young boy walking to school, Ron, would pass Dr. Rubie's house wondering if one day he would ever own a home like that. Coming "home" has been a romantic journey, and reminder of what makes Harrison, and this home, a special place. Harrison is in the heart of Maine's Western Lakes region, known for it's four season recreational opportunities and Village pace of life. Beginning in the Mid 1800's , steamboats and later the Narrow Gauge Railroad carried city dwellers to Harrison year after year. Boys and Girls camps flourished. Today there are families who have lived in Harrison for generations , welcoming those who come to their summer/ ski homes, and short term visitors alike. From 64 you can walk across the back lawn to Crystal Lake, the town Beach, boat launch, and park. From the front door you are within blocks of the Town Library, year round Old Mill Restaurant (great food and frequent entertainment), and the Harrison General Store. Deertrees Summer Theatre, is just 1 mile "up the road". When restoring 64 Main, the owner had his eye on creating a home that could accommodate many ages and host family reunions and small events. The owner collaborated with his wife who owned and operated an Award Winning small hotel in Portland for 16 years. They aspired that 64 Main be a place where families will come year after year, enjoying spaces to gather together as well as find moments. 64 Main has 6 bedrooms. 2 Master Bedrooms with King beds and en suite baths. One Master is on the first floor with a private deck. The third floor attic space is a classic kids loft that can easily sleep 6. The large family room (once a barn) and attached screened in porch are favorites of many. The owner tried to preserve as much of the original house as possible while creating a lasting, safe, and comfortable home. The home was all new windows (30!), a new heating plant that utilizes the original radiators, all new plumbing and wiring, expanded new septic system, state of the art insulation, some air conditioning, all new appliances including a 6 burner gas stove, and a Fire Sprinkler system. There are 2 onsite paved parking areas/ of space to accommodate a boat. The home and grounds are smoke free. We love animals but do not allow pets.

Fantastic house- had everything we needed and more. Property owner was very responsive- we noticed a couple wasp nests on the house and she had someone over spraying the nests immediately. Easy two minute walk to the lake and playground- fantastic for the kids- and a nice large yard to play in.

2nd time staying at 64 Main & we are always excited for our stay. The house is amazing, Barb has thought of everything that we would need for a stay. The home has such a warm and charming feel. The location is amazing for fun activities. If I had to pick 1 of my favorite rooms (which is very difficult to do), I would say it’s the side porch. Having my morning coffee and watching my kids work on a puzzle together is awesome. Never once did our 3 kids say, “I’m bored!”. Thanks again Barb, looking forward to next summer at 64 Main. Meg

Our family group of 10 (18 months--73 years old) had a wonderful week in this spacious, beautifully appointed home with its modern conveniences mixed with traditional charm. Communication with the property owners was easy and prompt. They were so considerate, even writing to make sure we knew about a new pub in town and a town fair, which turned out to be a hit with the children. We were greeted with lovely fresh flowers and a box of donuts. The proximity to the playground and sandy beach was terrific. The big lawn around the house was perfect for outdoor games. Listing photos of the interior don't show how attractive and pleasing the house is.

A stay at this spacious, historic home with a large, well maintained yard and within walking distance to a lake and small town amenities is quintessential Maine. Our family of 7 adults and 3 children thoroughly enjoyed our vacation in Harrison. We took advantage of the great weather and swam in Crystal Lake daily, walked to get ice cream, played lawn games, toasted marshmallows and sat by the fire pit. Breakfast and lunch on the screened in porch was delightful. Once the kids were in bed, the adults enjoyed sitting around the dining table playing more games and chatting late into the night. A perfect Maine vacation! The house is very well equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay and is decorated beautifully with interesting pieces pertaining to Harrison and Maine in general. Browsing through the library of books and board games was a pleasure. Barbara is an excellent host and the best communicator we have dealt with when renting vacation homes, always quick to respond to any questions or concerns. I would return to 64 Main and recommend it highly to anyone who would like to experience the way life should be!
