About this house rental

Relaxing, peaceful getaway in gorgeous Nelson County. Adjacent to a large hay field which leads down to a branch of the Tye River, the cottage is at the end of a quiet country lane with few nearby houses. The newly renovated home was initially built to house workers from a soapstone quarry located on the property, hidden in the woods. During the remodel, we even found rationing coupons from 1945 hidden in the walls! Comfortably blending modern conveniences, including free wifi, with quaint, historic charm, the bungalow is clean and minimally decorated with rustic tree posts, wood clad walls, pretty quilts from Sundance, warm wool blankets from a local sheep farm, and an adorable wood burning stove. We were happily able to save the original wood floors in most rooms. Enjoy your morning coffee on one of the two front porch swings while you listen to the birds sing. In the evening, roast marshmallows in the outdoor fire pit or chase fireflies in the hayfield until the sun goes down for excellent stargazing. Bring your canoe or kayak and drift down the Tye River, only minutes away, with a fishing rod and picnic. Hike to the river which runs through the property and sit in an ancient waterfall! Perfect for three or four responsible couples with or without children to escape to the rejuvenating countryside. Enjoy an abundance of vineyards, breweries, cideries, and distilleries are located around the county or book a massage at the Lovingston Spa. 30 minutes to Wintergreen, five minutes to Oak Ridge Estate and Lockn, halfway between Charlottesville and Lynchburg. Your host, Renee Grant, can help you plan your stay and, on request, provides worry-free advanced provisioning. Eleven can sleep comfortably on 3 Queen beds and in one loft that sleeps 4. On the ground floor, you will find two cozy bedrooms with queen beds, one room has a twin sized convertible couch. Upstairs, you will find a third queen bedroom and a loft with two trundled daybeds, each of which is enclosed in pretty draperies for added privacy and fun! In this loft, a wall mounted flat screen has a dvd player, but no cable so bring along some DVDs for more evening entertainment. The rustic kitchen is well equipped with a four burner stove, dishwasher, microwave, keurig coffee maker, and all the necessities. A front loading, stacked washer dryer is available so you can wash your clothes after enjoying the great outdoors. The two bathrooms both have glassed in showers and unique reclaimed copper sinks atop rough wooden vanities. On winter evenings, light a fire in the dining room’s little wood stove to up the cozy factor. The dining table was handmade by one of our local characters. Then adjourn to the living room for conversation or a game of cards. You're welcome to enjoy a cigarette outside. However, we don't allow any smoking in the house. Please dispose of properly so you don't start a forest fire, per Smokey the Bear! We have placed two geocaches on the property, hidden in the adjacent woods and hayfield. Ask your host Renee for the GPS coordinates and use the written clues to find the treasure boxes for a fun family activity! It’s wonderful to come relax in the country- remember that with this peaceful beauty, you may encounter wildlife, to include a variety of bugs like ticks and stinkbugs. An exterminator routinely comes to kill the bugs, but it is impossible to keep more bugs from coming from the surrounding fields and forest. Expect to perform tick inspections, as you would whenever walking or hiking in any grassy field or forest path once the frost are over. Additionally, the cottage operates on well water. You’ll find it tastes delicious compared to city water. Very rarely, after a prolonged period of rain, the whole house water filter may require changing. If you find there is no water pressure at all, please contact Renee immediately and she can quickly resolve the issue. Our property manager, Renee Grant, is available to help you during your stay. She can provision groceries prior to your arrival, arrange tours, suggest itineraries and schedule drop off and pick up services for canoe and kayak paddlers. Relaxing, peaceful getaway in gorgeous Nelson County. Adjacent to a large hay field which leads down to a private branch of the Tye River, which offers some of the best small mouth bass fishing in the state. The cottage is at the end of a quiet country lane with few nearby houses. During the remodel, we even found rationing coupons from 1945 hidden in the walls! We are also making sure our bungalow is clean and sanitized as per CDC recommendations. Welcome and enjoy our pretty cottage!

This property is great for 8 or less people (with some sharing beds). Due to the structure of our group, we moved two mattresses to the living room so four grown men did not have to sleep next to each other in the loft. There are seemingly some problems with electrical/lighting as none of the lighting in the laundry/dining area near the bathrooms worked. We moved a lamp into that area to compensate. Faucet in kitchen needs to be replaced as it sprays everywhere except where you need it to. The outdoor area was nice and we made a fire in the fire pit each night.

This house was such a treat to stay at! Very charming inside with a wonderful fire pit/seating area outside. A trek through the field down to a beautiful small river where we caught lots of little fish. Over all it was a lovely experience!

The home was incredibly cozy and unique. We really appreciated the thoughtful extras (Keurigs, cozy comforter, etc.). The location was wonderfully secluded. The only “negative” was that there was no internet service. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Loved the cabin. Only complaints, showers were a bit small and the beds weren’t great as I have back issues. But other than that everything was wonderful. Great location to our wedding activities and venue. Also the host was very responsive and left a nice welcome for us!! We hope to be back again.

Nice location, convenient distance to apple orchards, wineries and grocery store. Only thing it lacked was a TV and Wi-Fi service. Cell phone signal was hit or miss. However, it was a mountain getaway, and some may be trying to escape those amenities. I would stay there again.
