Good location - I’ve stayed before
Parking charges excessive - would choose a different available hotel if parking was free.

I was delighted to have a room (144) that overlooked the Cathedral especially as the mini-break was one of nostalgia - I had lived in Winchester 1969-1973 over 50 years ago. Spacious room - so easy to relax.
My only mini niggle was one breakfast there was a large group in and they did commandeer the situation somewhat - even moving my breakfast stuff while I was getting my tea... not a "roped off area"! Not the hotel's fault and not one to worry about.

Everything was perfect from checking in, using the dining room for dinner and breakfast.
Dinner package was good value. Breakfast had a wide variety.

I love the big window in the room with a view of the cathedral. Very handy for the town, its facilities and bars/ restaurants.
Buffet breakfast is fine, but no tea/ coffee or eggs made to order.

Location. Early check-in.

Location
The hotel is way past its best. Compared to mercure Walton Hall - it was poor. The carpets were marked. It’s all a bit neglected.

Location was fab. It is right beside the cathedral with amazing views. Close to shops. Very central. Has all the amenities. Comfortable & quiet stay.
Needs updating. Parking charge on top of hotel fee which was not clearly indicated on the website.

This hotel is interesting and quite retro - reminds me of the 1970’s/80’s … it’s right next door to the Cathedral, and close to the start of the South Downs Way (My reason for being there) pleasant staff and super breakfast (big buffet) clean rooms. Ok value for money …
Nothing bad but it’s obviously a little tired in places, in need of a general facelift.

Good location in Winchester city centre
Too expensive, room, menu. Ended up eating out for £8. Charged £15 for parking. These hotel chains try to squeeze as much out of you as they can

Room was good. Bed was enormous. Didn't have breakfast.

Staff were really lovely and helpful. Great location.
The hotel is in need of refurbishment. Our bathroom smelt musty and everything looked tired.

The Selection of bread was poor quality . Storage flask for coffee and hot water was lukewarm. Service was good
Bought a ploughman’s lunch buttie. It was revolting it was not made with butter (that’s what butty means ) there was no gammon but ham in it . Horrible poor quality bread . Fridge didn’t work in the room .only found out we had to pay for parking when we got there

Nothing. The is nothing good to say. From first greeting on arrival, I could tell the staff did not care about my stay.
The room was filthy, with rubbish behind the furniture. The carpet is threadbare. The kettle was filthy, with black growth inside. The furniture was stained and torn and looked like it had been rescued from a skip. The mattress was old and worn out. The bathroom was filthy and just needed a good deep clean. I would question if the room had actually been serviced prior to my stay.

Pleasant staff, good breakfast. Comfortable bed. Car park had adequate spaces. I think some people had not realised there are two sections to the car park. Would use this hotel again.
Taps wrong way round and not marked. Filled glass and kettle with hot water without realising till washing! Basin cracked but receptionist insists this will be fixed now i have brought it to their attention.

The location
The fact the car park is part of the hotel and it was £15 per night per vehicle

It was very convenient for the city centre. The decor was very dated but the room was comfortable and the extra large bed gave us a great nights sleep. All the staff were friendly and we were able to get into our room before 3pm as it was ready
It is overdue a facelift- the decor is rather dark and dated but this didn’t affect the overall enjoyment of our stay

Room : Comfy bed, good air conditioning, modern TV, great to have a fridge.
Breakfast : excellent, plenty of choice.
Location : perfect for the City .
Our Cathedral view was blocked by a Lime Tree.
Room needs updating, we did notice new carpet being put down in rooms on our floor that is a good sign.

The breakfast was not worthy of 4 stars but ok
Bedside lights didn’t work no proper shower no air on tea tray pedestrian

The staff were extremely helpful. The location was excellent. the size of the room and facilities available. Public spaces were good.
The fittings are old fashioned. and in poor condition. The seat cushions in my friend's room were badly stained. The room was very dark with no central lighting and an out of order side light.
The worse thing was the limescale around the bath which was why I marked down for cleanliness.
It is such a shame and Mercure should prioritise refurbishment or will use custom. Unfortunately they have lost out on a planned return to Winchester.

Great staff and great location.
The carpet in the bedrooms was threadbare in places and the bedrooms needed updating. Not like other Accor hotels we have stayed at.

Superb location - next to cathedral grounds, one block from main street, and bus depot. Very friendly staff.

very dated, desperate for some face lifts!!

The property was in a great location
It was very shabby, paint stains on the carpet and threshold going into the bathroom, plug holes grimy, dustbin tea tray and lamp, big hole in net curtain, just looked very tired and in need or attention, telephone wasn’t plugged in and couldn’t even find a port for it to plug into.

The room is quite large and although the furniture was a bit tired looking, the room itself was spotlessly clean and the bed was very comfortable. We very much appreciated the high quality bed linen.
The loction is superb, we loved the view of the winchester cathedral.
The hotel staff, without fail are welcoming and the buffet breakfast is vast and varied. In fact, rare are the hotels that offer so many milk options for their clients! (Oat milk, soya milk, skim milk, full fat milk...)
The outside of the shower/bath is peeling and a bit off putting...but the tub is spotlessly clean!

Nothing
Rooms were cold. Heater in sufficient. Bed uncomfortable with a poor quality duvet. Not warm enough for sleeping under. A chair should have been replaced years ago. Well worn. Overall a very uncomfortable one night stay for 4 hotel guests. Not using Mercure again.
The reason for our visit was to attend a family funeral. This negative experience was not helpful.

Excellent location near the High Street and Winchester Cathedral. We were able to park our car on hotel property, very nice buffet style breakfast. The hotel had an electric heater in the room which kept the room warm.
The room was slightly small for a couple. That's about our only negative.

LOCATION THAT ALL
This is the email I sent to the Hotel which I have not had any response, they take your money and that's that very poor customer service.

I have just spent one night in your hotel to celebrate our 40th Wedding Anniversary, for which I decided to book an Executive room, which was I would say not worth the money as there was nothing executive about it, the bathroom was in need of an upgrade/makeover, poor paint work, chipped tile, worn bath panel, shower screen edging had not been cleaned, as for the bedroom, nothing special, stains on the wall, and odd light bulbs in the wall lights next to the kettle, and no USB ports to charges up devices.
Next breakfast again very poor, had to wait 15 minutes while the hot food counter was topped up, this was not being monitored by the duty staff, so people were lest waiting, the hot drinks area was a mess again not being monitored, and there was no sight of any manager in the restaurant area, I should have gone to The Ivy for breakfast it would have been a far better experience.
At check out I was greeted with a thank you, no questions asked if I enjoyed my stay or if everything was satisfactory, not a very good experience.
I will give you time to respond before I submit my comments about my stay on Booking.Com website for whom I booked my room through.

Fabulous location. car park underneath, and another (busy) car park 200 yards away. Amazing view of the cathedral from my room.
My room’s carpet was a bit tired, as is the hotel bar. The car park is not for the faint hearted or for those with very large cars.
9.0
Ideal location for everything luckily had car parking which was a bonus large rooms very comfortable good choice at breakfast
Was a good choice at breakfast but most of hot food had become dried out as it was too long in the food warmer
5.0
The location was great for the centre of Winchester
The room was open when we got there, and the corridor smelt as though someone was smoking.
The carpet in the bar was torn and dated, when we went the following day, our glasses from the previous night were still on the bar and not cleared away.
4.0
The location is excellent and the staff are friendly.
The hotel is dated and dirty. Essentially, you're paying for a city centre parking space that comes with a free hotel room.
