The host/owner is very personable and kind. It’s gated, so there is that added measure of security. As the name implies, the location is essentially central.
Kind of dirty in places, very old pillows and mattress in the room I rented. The area of town is not the greatest, and multiple times I heard people arguing and fighting at an adjacent property. That could have been an isolated incident, and like I mentioned the property itself is gated.

I appreciated that the owners tried to spruce up an old hotel using fresh paint, plants and artwork to make it as cheery as possible. This is a basic, budget hotel with no amenities, but it still met our needs for an overnight stay. The room was nice and clean and the beds were comfortable. You can easily walk to restaurants and the main shopping areas as well as several of the sightseeing areas.
The property itself is old and a little shabby. Despite being located just off the main shopping area, the surrounding neighborhood is rundown. There are no elevators in the building, and it was difficult hauling our suitcases up and down stairs and ramps. We could not watch the TV because of some sort of problem with the wi-fi connection. The cafe was closed the weekend we were there, but I was also told by my daughter that it served good food and that the owners were very pleasant and helpful. If you are staying in St. Thomas and are on a tight budget, I would recommend Midtown Guest Hotel. Otherwise, you may want to consider spending a bit more on a hotel that has some amenities and modern updates.

very cute and quaint place. Affordable and accommodating, very central to most things in charlotte amalie! Staff were very friendly and nice
a few cracks and things that were in need of replacing but nothing that was a deal breaker. plus for the value, none of that really matters.

I love the architecture of this building. At though extremely dated it was well kept. It was great and the fact that it was two blocks from the harbor. And only one block away from Main Street shopping. Surrounded by a lot of great restaurants.
We should had some amenities.

For a solo trip, this hotel was just fine. All appliances worked (Lights, Ceiling fan, A/C unit, Sockets, TV, and wifi) and the bed was comfortable enough for each of my three nights' sleep. I liked that the TV was a modern, smart TV with access to apps, live TV, and more. The location was cool in that the waterfront was close by, the downtown shopping district was close, there were a handful of restaurants and shops close by, and a couple of the historical sites that I wanted to see were also close by. As far as safety, I never had a problem. The hotel had a secure gate and the hotel itself was pretty calm. I accidentally forgot to fully close my door one night and never had an issue throughout the night. The staff even extended my stay a little bit so I could take in one more half-day of sightseeing. That was very much appreciated
Cleanliness and comfort go hand in hand with a hotel. The first thing I noticed with the room was that the ceiling fan chain was secured by a repurposed boot string. That's not a bad thing, but was a tip of the iceberg when it came to certain parts of the room not always being up to my standards back home. The dresser was usable, but practically was falling apart. Some of the bedposts on the bed were missing exposing nails and screws that could harm a less careful guest. The towels provided were relatively clean, but I did notice a stubborn stain on one of the face/body towels when I first arrived in the room. That towel should've been thrown out. The bathroom had corners that seemed dirty and the shower itself was one that could've used more scrubbing. The fixtures in the shower were soap scum-caked, slightly rusty, and not secured to the wall well. There was even a leftover bar of soap in my shower from the last guest. As mentioned, the bed was just fine and I slept well every night. The linens did seem to have holes in them which isn't the most confidence-inducing thing to see, but everything looked and smelled clean enough. Lastly, there was a bit of a bug problem. Not roaches or anything ,but small flies and ants. This is the tropics so the windows stayed open at all times and had screens on them, but things can happen in any home/room in the world so the small flies weren't an issue. The random ants, however would be concerning when spotting them in the bathroom sink area, or on the dresser.

Had to share a bathroom, but it wasn’t a problem really

place to sleep
Beds were fine, place was dirty (check bedside lamp!), bathroom was not clean, dead bees, bugs, and hole plugged with toilet paper had mouse droppings around it. The shower didn’t drain properly and our next to last night we came back to find someone (assume maid) had filled shower to overflowing with water and drain had mold and such coming out of drain, smelled awful. By morning it had drained but left black mold scum all over the shower floor, bath mat and two towels to sop up bathroom floor. We couldn’t use shower for two days. Mosquitoes everywhere and I had 22 mosquito bites on my arms after first night staying there! Not a pleasant experience at all. My 10 year old granddaughter spent one night there and the rest of the vacation on my sons couch at his small apartment, she hated our small room. And coffee wasn’t available until after we left at 9, each morning! No recommendation from us!
