Fine for a one night stay

The hotel is in an excellent location being right in the heart of the attractive town of Penrith. Having dedicated free parking is a big bonus All the staff were welcoming and friendly. Our room and the ensuite shower room were of a reasonable size, light and bright and attractively furnished.

We had difficulty finding the car park. Initially we parked in the M&S carpark (free for 90 minutes) which is behind the hotel, but you need to drive past that to get to the hotel's carpark. We checked in around 4pm and after travelling for several hours & having had a walk around Ullswater we both wanted a shower before going out into Penrith. I ran the shower for a good 10 minutes before the water began to get hot and ended up having a warm shower. My husband then had the same issue, although the water was, by then, slightly hotter. Surely hot water should be available after check in time!! Our room was at the front and noisy from traffic & deliveries from about 6 AM. No bedside table on one side of the bed and the bed was very high which, as I'm only 4ft 11ins tall & 70 years old, made getting in & out a bit of a struggle.

Breakfast poor. We would stay again but if the breakfast was hard again it will be sent back.

The place was in a great location and the room very comfortable. The staff were very good.

The first breakfast was seriously overcooked. Bacon and black pudding rock hard, egg solid. The next morning we requested that the bacon wasn't overcooked but it still came to the table like a burnt offering. Someone clearly doesn't know how to cook a breakfast.

Comfortable stay

Friendly staff. My room was really comfortable with a good shower.

Would have nice to have shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom, but there was just general body wash.

A perfect short stay

The staff was very friendly, my room was perfectly comfortable, breakfast was great, and the location was perfect. It was perfect for my very short layover in Penrith!

Good location but needs to take allergies more seriously.

Characterful building, right in the heart of Penrith. Free parking. Soft beds. Friendly staff.

Nasty alleyway from car park to the front door. A bit scary for a woman on her own. The tv was in an awkward place and was hard to watch from the bed. View was of an ugly roof. The worst thing was that, despite express instructions on making my daughter’s dinner gluten free, she did become ill two hours after eating and it nearly ruined our plans for the following day. I did tell the lady the next morning that my daughter had been glutened and could not come down for breakfast but, though she apologised, she did not offer any refund. The kitchen really needs to take a gluten intolerance/allergy more seriously. I think the chef should have come out to speak to my daughter before the meal. Most restaurants send out their manager to take the order. Not good enough.

Lovely friendly hotel, in a great location.

The twin room was clean and well laid out, quiet and the bed was very comfortable. Quite a comprehensive breakfast selection, staff were really pleasant and professional.

Breakfast was good but the gap between ordering and service possibly could have been quicker.

Breakfast is fantastic and starts from 7am, you can struggle to find the reception bit but just walk to the bar

Great location and value for money

Great location with free parking at the rear of the property. The breakfast was excellent and great value for money. We also had some delicious cocktails in the evening.

Water from taps in room was very hot, could do with a sign to warn people of this. The hairdryer was faulty, needs to be replaced with a new one as I couldn’t dry my hair.

Passable

Room was clean and comfortable.

Loud ,repetitive, monotonous beat of music from the bar area. Had to shout to be heard.Garish neon lighting all round in the bar. Bedroom not totally soundproofed from the downstairs noisy music.

the room was large and bed very comforatable. The staff were friendly and the hotel in general was clean and fresh looking. Food was great and portions good.

The room was comfy & had everything you needed. Walk in shower & fan if it got warm. Menu was good & cocktails even better. Free parking behind the hotel, lovely breakfast,

Exceptional

Loved this place the staff were so friendly and helpful. Its lovely to have a few drinks in the bar or sit outside on the terrace if the sun is shining. The rooms were spotless.

Pleasant to stay and in middle of town. Best to travel light with little to carry in.

food was good, and we enjoyed the openness aand friendliness of staff

The car park was adequate in size but difficult to find down alleyway behind the hotel. Lang way to carry cases back into hotel and you cannot first park outside to unload.

solo trip to the lakes, i picked a gem of a place to stay, made my weekend extra special

room has everything needed, shower brilliant, bed super comfy. food and drink delicious, staff friendly, happy and helpful

only downside was the short walk from car park to property, but no big deal.

Great location,good value,private parking at the rear.We had a large double with king-size bed, large ensuite with walk in shower and bath very comfy and clean. Excellent breakfast with a good choice, friendly staff and welcome.

Pleasant

Friendly and courteous staff. Bed was comfortable but unfortunately little sleep due to the noise, room was warm, nice hot shower with good water pressure, good breakfast choices. Evening menu looked okay but ate elsewhere as would have meant shouting at each other to be heard above the music.

Very noisy as directly above a bar with very loud music and raised voices until after midnight, then customers leave and sound like loads arguing in the street directly below the bedroom window until nearly 1am. Room carpet was stained, radiator had rust marks, dirty marks on the wall near the bed.

Great stay in a little, cosy hotel.

Welcoming,, cosy and Christmassy. Comfortable beds and huge bathroom. Very clean, lovely staff and great cooked breakfast. We also had a lovely meal and cocktails in the restaurant.

We had a bit of difficulty finding the car park, but it was dark.
