The couch in the common room was comfortable.
Everything was dreadful. The kitchen and room was filthy with garbage piling up, the room had no air-conditioning, there was no breakfast, tea or coffee supplied, and the cleaning staff (the only staff on premises) were rude.

Nothing!
8 people crammed into a small room no room for anything I slept with my bags on my bed, the beds were so uncomfortable, I had driven 7+hours then couldn’t sleep because of the awful room the bunk beds weren’t bolted to the wall very unstable, there was one bathroom with one toilet and one shower downstairs for 5 dorms, it was filthy, virtual reception is ridiculous and very impersonal!

I stayed in a private room on the second floor. The room was clean but small and basic. Bathrooms were clean and cleaned every morning after 9 a.m. It is OK to stay in this place in a private room.
Most strikingly, the Port Adelaide Backpackers charged way over what one would expect to be charged for a basic private room with shared wash rooms and shower rooms in the corridor. I should have been more careful in selecting the accommodation. Two hundred AUD per night is way too high for this type of housing. When I checked my credit card balance I also discovered that I was charged 2 per cent more than the original bill from Booking dot com was saying at the time of booking. The entire charge to my credit card for all three nights of my stay came from the property after a day or two after I finished booking. Another problem was the absence of any light in the corridor on the second floor over the weekend in April. When I came back to the Backpackers on a Friday evening, virtual receptionist said that they had called the electrician to fix the lights on the second floor, but in 10 minutes after the electrician had left the lights went off again. Virtual receptionist promised that by tomorrow (Saturday) the lights would be fixed. Of course, the corridor stayed dark until next Monday morning, that is through the whole weekend. By the way, there are no windows in that corridor. They have one receptionist for two (and maybe more than two) properties. This receptionist sits at another location and you (the guest) do you check in and check out looking at the image of the receptionist on the plasma screen and talking on the speaker phone, so the "virtual receptionist". This is how the management saves on the salaries of receptionists.
When checking in, be careful not to show you printout to anybody around. This printout has the code to the
lock on your room. This code is the only barrier for any stranger entering your room, since the place is unmanned by any staff. So, if somebody in the lounge sees your printout (or helps to retrieve it from the printer) while you being checked in, then they will have full access to your private room. Keep this in mind.

The cleaners and maintenance guy were all Stella people. Close to shops
The owner is a weirdo that imposes strange rules out of the blue and mistreats guests when he's been drinking. No good for families with children. He is rude to his staff and to guests. He should not be running a back Packers. Beware of Ted

Do have cooking facility, great!
So far I stay here twice and twice some one sleep in the community lounge, this should not happen people should sleep in their own room if they booked dormitory style.

Fantastic environment with genuinely courteous and efficient staff. The professional yet friendly management of the facility and patrons on a daily basis is to be commended.
PABP strikes a great balance between value for money & a comfy 'home away from home' for budget accommodation.
Highly recommended to all travellers local and abroad!
I have to admit that some of the mattresses leave a little to be desired in comfort level but nothing unusual for their basic cost & purpose.

The owner charging me an extra night, after confirming just one and did so claiming it was through booking, yet the charge was to Adelaide backpackers

People were nice
Neither of my payments for the two transactions had gone through when I made the booking. When I arrived, I was notified of this, and authorized for the 15th booking payment on my mastercard, and confirmed with the supervisor I would make a booking for the following night if I was wanting another night.
I have now found an unauthorized payment for the 16th, a night which I had not stayed, as I found more suitable accommodation.
As a result I've now paid for accommodation at port backpackers, without consent.
I would now like the transaction to be reversed.

The quietness and the neatness of the bathrooms
The dorm was poorly aerated. There is need for staff maybe to open windows for two hours in a 24hour period for fresh air
