Passable
This is a very quirky establishment, like entering another world or a time warp. The owner was friendly and helpful, I was the only guest there. Lots of interesting snacks and hot drink options in the kitchen, even port to drink if you fancy an evening tipple.
It was not obvious to find and after a very long drive it took me a while and asking a few people to work out it was not one of the hotels or pubs with frontage on the Main Street but behind a gate and down an alley and then I had to get instructions of where the entrance was to park the car. It would be helpful if this information was given at booking. The place is very difficult to describe and needs to be seen to be believed, it is very eccentrically decorated in my mind, hung with huge copies of works of art like a museum, curtained off areas, rich fabrics and artifacts and signs and information everywhere. It is quite old fashioned, and the bathroom was very basic. I have stayed in many places all over the world and this is definitely a one off. Some people will love it for its quirkiness, others may find it a bit too much like a museum of curiosities so I am giving this review to try and help people have an idea of what it is like.

Does not have the charm I had hoped for.
Location is excellent. Close to town centre, bus, and train. Owners pleasant and accommodating. This place has a lot of potential, but is let down by the excessive clutter, collections and décor. My room was big, clean but cluttered with unnecessary furniture and stuff. Bathroom clean and adequate size. Only one towel provided, no hand towel or face washer. A hairdryer in the room as well as a kettle would make it more comfortable. Small electric heater, that eventually heated room. Fruit bowl in dining room a nice touch.
I've stayed at many heritage style guesthouses around the world, as I like to experience their history and charm, but this was a huge disappointment. Any charm the place holds is stripped away by excessive and tacky canvas prints of European old paintings and cabinet after cabinet of camera collections. Mixed with fake flowers, nic naks, lace doilies and bright red plastic placemats. So many different eras crammed into each room, it was claustrophobic. I have no problem with people showcasing collections, but they need to consider that not every guest has the same passion, nor wants to see so much of it, and particularly in their room. Whilst the owners are of the belief that most guest like this, they could consider the rest of us who don't. Otherwise they will continue to be very very niche, and who can afford that in business these days?? Decluttering, and modern styling would go a long way to make guests feel comfortable, and like they are actually in paid accommodation and not awkward in someone's home with their personal effects everywhere. Bed hard and no range of pillow comfort to choose from. Breakfast - would have liked a pot of tea or coffee, butter, juice, milk, jam, on table to access freely. Instead had to ask, and when I wanted a top up, no one around to assist. No kettle in room, instead had to go to kitchenette, where there was no microwave also. Dining table in rooms, but not allowed to eat in room without permission! This is not a personal attack on the owners, it's an observation, constructive feedback and comparison to similar guesthouses based on my travel and business experience. I've read the owners responses to some reviews, all feedback is important to consider, as are all guests' preferences.

Had Lovely Stay.
Location is excellent with views of the harbour. Quirky, in a very nice way. Husband and wife who own it are extremely nice and very helpful.

A great place to stay to experience the history of Albany, located in the heart of the town.
We travel a lot and really enjoy unique places. This property has such character, enhanced by the massive camera collection - hundreds of them, and an "art gallery feel" you could spend hours looking at them all! The owners are gentle, inclusive people who genuinely care and take an interest in who you are. History is everywhere! Recommended.
There was nothing I didn't like - as with many unique places they are a work in progress - which for me makes them even more interesting. Would have liked an iron/ironing board in the room because we had meetings, but I am sure they would have provided one if we asked - was not listed in their information. I would have also liked a little more history on the house - probably there but not in the info pack in the room. These small negatives just show how good the experience was!
