Quirky, restaurant on premises, on the river, historic neighbourhood
No cooked breakfast. Early closure of restaurant

I rarely score a full 10 but this place was worth it. The room was beautiful, the facilities fabulous and staff very friendly and helpful.
The restaurant downstairs is lovely and also very friendly staff. Walkable to Roker Beach or a 7 min drive. Ample parking at the hotel.
The steps are not very broad, and may be a bit difficult to get up if you're not good on your legs, but they weren't a problem for us. Just need to be a little bit careful.

The room was very comfy and warm
The location even if is a great view from the room, the aere around wasn’t that great

Near city centre, good parking, friendly, helpful and welcoming owner. Above a very nice Italian restaurant. Quiet area for peaceful night sleep.
It fully meet my needs and expectations

Location amazing.
Clean and comfortable.
Free parking.
Yes, the entrance is under whelming but get inside and wow.
Yes, the stairs are steep. The floors are not level. The walls are not straight, but it's a gorgous historic building. If you want a bland soulless hotel, go to a hotel chain.
The help yourself breakfast was enjoyable, good quality, and gave us freedom.
Tony Diana and Irene gave us a great welcome.
Good value for money. I would highly recommend.
The weather!

Beautiful views from the shared terrace spanning across the river Wear and the bridges. Very comfortable and ideal location.
Nothing.

The staff at the hotel were very welcoming and helped me supporting parking my car earlier than my check in time, and I was given my room keys early so I could access the room when required.
The rooms are very spacious and the double bed and single bed were very comfortable
The area is quiet and situated alongside the river which was a nice walk
I think this has been highlighted on other reviews but the initial set of stairs to the main landing are very narrow and need extra care in particular going down the stairs

Seemed clean however, kettle was in need of descaling
Restaurant down stairs

Near the river, quirky property! Diana and her staff were so friendly, welcoming and couldn’t do enough for you. Various breakfast items provided with a brilliant, clean shared kitchen, extra tea, coffee and sugar as well as what was provided in the room. Brilliant, hot shower! Clean room, comfy bed.
Nothing really, although on a main road and in the Sunday night it was very noisy… nothing to do with the hotel! Monday night was quiet.

Very friendly staff. Very clean and comfortable room. Excellent value for money.
Stairs to room quite steep but there was a sign saying this is due to it being an historic old building.

The restaurant was wonderful,
The building is extremely dated, the room we had was not featured in the original photos, left a lot to be desired, the room overlooked the main road,,with constant road noise, and riotous behaviour from local residents, left the hotel for home at 1am due to noise from other rooms, and no staff on site during these hours, would not recommend staying at this location,

My husband and I absolutely loved our stay at Boars Head Boutique. Diane was lovely and very helpful.
We stayed in the Laurel and Hardy Suite which overlooked the River Wear. It was so beautiful with amazing views.
We were happy with the shared kitchen where you had facilities to help yourself to breakfast cereals (plenty of choice) bread for toast with all the appliances (toaster/kettle/microwave with a dining table also tea/coffee and hot chocolate.
Diane also explained to us about the beautiful Italian restaurant downstairs called Knowledge it is open daily except for Tuesdays where they are closed. Knowledge also serves array of beverages including soft drinks/cocktails/beers and wines and much more.
We watched the sunset over the river and beautifully lit up and lights reflections along the stunning Riverside. A beautiful location and we'd definitely love to come back soon!
There was the anything we didn't like it was outstanding 6 rooms our suite was beautiful.

perfect location, 5mins from the beach. beautiful view. Italian restaurant and pub available on site. east access. great host. spacious rooms
walls are very thin I could hear the kettle from the room nearby, as well as conversations and snoring as it was just right next to me.

It was clean and comfortable, spacious and the lady was very kind and welcoming. Great rooms I had a great sleep in the beds. The room had sofa, tv, 3 beds, a shared kitchen which led onto a balcony looking over the water. It was great stay overall
It is an old building and the stairs are very steep but it didn’t bother me. It was 10:30am check out also which wasn’t ideal in my case as I had my flight at 7pm to catch

Spent 2 nights at the boar’s head boutique hotel, on arrival was met by Tony, he showed us to our room and gave lots of information about the property including the history which my wife enjoyed listening to. There was a small problem at the hotel however Tony and his wife Diana sorted this out very promptly. Overall Tony, Diana and the lady who looks after the rooms were more than helpful and excellent hosts. We will definitely be returning.

My wife and I travelled up to Sunderland to see our daughter, who is working on the Lion King. We were met by Tony, he showed us around and explained the history of the building. The room is adequate, the location is excellent' not to far from city centre. We had a meal at the Italian restaurant which is part of the same building, which was very good, still very helpful. We would stay again. Thank you very much.

location was great for central Sunderland, the restaurant below "Knowledge" was great and the food delicious. Diana was lovely and attentive. facilities in room ok. The room was great for what I needed, a value for money room to sleep in. we were there for a competition at the aquatic centre so didn't spend loads of time in the room.
the shower head in the room was broken so quite loose when showering, the tv signal was shocking as hardly connected and kept cutting off,
The room is VERY noisy. The windows sound like they are open when a vehicle drove past and you are right above the restaurant so can hear everything the people, music, kitchen etc, quietened down after 11 but not great with the kids and if you needed an early night. The breakfast options lacked a little no white bread but the facilities to bring your own were great in the communal kitchen!
8.0
Central location, within walking distance of the centre.
Get off at Sunderland, not St Peter's as suggested by Google Maps, as your route won't involve negotiating junctions with no crossings.
