You travel to Costa Rica to see the wild life. What could be more perfect than looking out your balcony and seeing howler monkeys, spider monkeys, and toucans. The hotel is set right in the jungle but was a short walk to the restaurants of Manuel Antonio, the perfect combination. The pool set is the jungle was so perfect and private, a great way to escape to Costa Rican heat. This was our second time here and it won’t be our last.

One day before arriving at the property the day before Christmas period I was informed that they were completing some exterior reservations on the property but not to worry everything would be in order and the pool would be open. They did offer me a refund if I was concerned over renovations. I called the property where they assured me everything would be fine. When we showed up the next day the entire property was under construction. The rooms were all behind plastic and empty. There was literally not a bed in the unit. It was full construction zone covered in dusk and unsafe. We waited 5 hours for the "final touches" without progress and was given a temporary unit at a discount which was smaller than a hotel room behind the plastic wall rather than the one bedroom unit we rented. We finally had no choice but to leave the next day which was Christmas eve where we could not find anywhere to stay within 4 hours of the resort. The owners agreed to a full refund but after a month I have now had to have it escalated through homeaway because I still have not received it. The dishonesty ruined our Christmas holidays.

The apartment backs onto the jungle and most days we were greeted by squirrel or howler monkeys. The pool is beautiful. We had the use of the facilities of The Preserve of Los Altos, beautiful pool and secluded beach that you can walk to 10 minutes with shuttle back as it is up a very steep hill. The restaurant, Karolas and pool restaurant are excellent. Weather in Costa Rica is sunny and warm 30 degrees Celsius. The only complaint about apartment are the chairs, which are uncomfortable and need to be replaced. The king size bed is firm and very comfortable for sleeping. There are excellent restaurants within walking but the road is uphill and would be difficult for those with any mobility challenges. We did not find it too difficult. Los Altos staff are excellent, will order taxis, which is how you can easily get around. There are wonderful tours which they can book for you, reasonably priced, Dennis Reyes’ Epic Adventures for hiking in Manuel Antonio Mational Park was first class! The Dolphin Planet Sunset Catamaran Tour was excellent, we saw humpback whales, two adults and a baby. Two great restaurants, Emilio’s Cafe and Cafe Milagro are very close to the apartment. Los Altos is about a 10-15 minute walk. The beaches are easily accessible by taxi or bus or by renting a vehicle. Our favourite is Espadilla Beach, 3-4 minute taxi ride, 4 colones. Lots of supermarkets nearby for food and drinks. Loved the accommodation! Would definitely book this apartment again.

We really enjoyed our experience at the Jungle Vista Inn. It was nice to have a separate apartment without the cost of staying at the larger property, but the ability to use the facilities there - we especially enjoyed the pool there! Accommodations at our apartment were very nice, the bed was super-comfortable. Everyone was super-nice and friendly. It would have been helpful if there were some basic provisions in the kitchen and bathroom to make the "apartment living" easier - such as salt and pepper, cleaning supplies (since there is no housekeeping service), etc. Overall, we had a great time and really appreciated the responsiveness of the hotel staff!

My husband, six year old daughter and I stayed here for 5 days in March over Spring break. It was the perfect blend giving us the privacy and flexibility of an apartment with the option to use the amenities at Los Altos Resort. The Resort has a beautiful pool, good food and happy hour and their own private beach. The staff at the Resort were responsive. At the same time, the apartments are not on the resort compound but do have their own beautiful pool, allowing us to view monkeys and bats up close. Manuel Antonio turned out to be a great home base for exploring this beautiful part of Costa Rica. Thank you for a great stay.

I'm a very casual and basic traveler so overall I was happy with my accommodations. However, don't be fooled into paying more money for this location based upon the linkage to Los Altos pool and beach access, not worth the money. You're better off with a more affordable property and then just walk to the other beaches. The Los Altos hotel beach has limited amenities. PS - we paid $120 a person for dinner at the host hotel, Los Altos, for NYE. The price did not even include water or soft drinks, just 1 glass of cheap champagne. They also included a 10% service fee for a buffet dinner. total rip-off.

Lovely apartment and beautiful surroundings!
We stayed here for a week in the middle of March 2017. The top floor apartment was large, clean, and comfortable, with the forest right outside the balcony. We woke up to howler monkeys every morning, and were visited by many monkeys during the day. The pool is amazing. It even gets a bit of shade during the day, and is a lovely oasis. The one downside is that they are building something on the property, making noise at 6 am every day except Sunday. Check the progress of this project before you book. We would have appreciated a heads-up about this when we booked, or perhaps a discount. We’re pretty easy going, but this was a bit annoying. Suggestions for things to take with you: A review mentioned that the kitchen only had a scrub pad and paper towels for dishes, so we took a dishcloth and tea towel. Another good suggestion was salt and pepper. We also took small flashlights as the roads are dark at night, with no sidewalks. We also were glad we had a can opener on our Swiss Army knife, as there wasn’t one. It would be nice to have plastic glasses to take to the pool, and wine glasses. There were a few ants, but we just kept stuff in the fridge and they weren’t a problem. We took bug spray, but as there were no mosquitoes we didn’t use it at all. The apartment is managed by Los Altos, a hotel located a steep 5-to-10-minute walk up the road, giving you access to some of their facilities. We didn’t use the gym or the pool, but we used their hiking trails many times, and saw iguanas, monkeys, sloths, and crabs, and amazing sunsets. This was the best part of having hotel access. There is a private beach, but there are nicer beaches in the area so we didn't swim there. The hotel staff were super-friendly and helpful. The downside of the management of the apartment being offsite is that we had to go to the hotel whenever we needed anything. There is a phone number you can call, but if you don’t have a cell phone with you it’s not very helpful. After picking up our key from Los Altos our driver dropped us off at El Paseo del Mar, but no one was there to meet us, so my husband had to walk to the hotel in the dark to ask them to resolve some issues. They were very helpful and nice, and everything was quickly fixed, but after a long day of travel with a tired and sick child, it would have been better not to have had to do this. We really liked this place, and would stay there again. We would have given it 5 stars if it weren’t for the construction.

Blissful place, wonderful accommodation
My husband and I booked a rather last-minute New Year's trip to Costa Rica and were scrambling to find hotel availability. We got incredibly lucky when Chuck wrote back right away to let us know Unit B was available on our dates. Thanks to Chuck's responsiveness over email, booking was quick and easy.
We arrived at El Paseo Del Mar on New Year's Day after a long drive. To my relief, Chuck was still available to check us in. We were happy to park the car and rely on walking, the local bus, and tour operators during the length of our stay. Manuel Antonio National Park was a pleasant walk down the hill and along the beach; some great restaurants including Emilio's Cafe and it's sister La Lambretta Pizza are just slightly up the hill. (Also don't miss the Mariposa Hotel bar for a sunset drink!)
Our 4-night stay was superb. The apartment was beyond our expectations: in addition to being clean, comfortable, and cool, with a functional kitchen and reliable WiFi, it also had nice touches such as a library of books to browse and a flat-screen TV with cable to catch the NFL playoff game (the only exception we'd make to our "no TV on vacation" rule). Only one minor comment ... we recommend stashing some salt/pepper in your luggage (or picking some up at the nearby supermarket) if you plan to cook eggs for breakfasts as we did.
The pool area was just as fantastic as it looks, if not better. We won't soon forget the endangered titi monkeys emerging from the jungle and playing around us. We loved ending our beach days with a cold poolside beer as a treat for hiking up the hill. Floating in the pool under the stars, then looking over the infinity edge into the jungle, was awesome.
It's obvious how much thought, care, and personal touch has gone into El Paseo Del Mar, from the design to Chuck's fantastic artwork. (Ask about how he mounted the giant frog and iguana mosaics on the building! Very cool.) As a host, Chuck was present and very helpful (e.g., booked us 2 excursions), without us ever feeling watched; on the contrary, it felt like our private spot (even though we weren't the only guests). We hope to return to this gem in the rainforest and wish Chuck all the best.

Great place to stay!
These are lovely apartments in a great location near Manuel Antonio Park. Although the area itself is quite developed, this small apartment complex is nestled in a forested area on a hillside. When sitting on your balcony you are right in the tree-tops so it is ideal for observing monkeys up close. Very peaceful and relaxing. The AC worked great and was really appreciated as it was extremely hot and humid during our visit. The pool area is absolutely beautiful and also attracts monkeys so your opportunities to see them are many. Everything is very well-cared for and the owner, Chuck, was a great host. He is a wonderful resource for information on the area. Thanks for everything, Chuck. We hope to return someday.

Couldn't be happier with our stay. Perfect!
This was the perfect place for our week long stay in Costa Rica. Great location about 20 minutes downhill to the beach (we walk slowly) and 10 minutes to a range of restaurants. The apartments was lovely, clean and very comfortable, and the pool area our quiet afternoon oasis.
Chuck is warm and welcoming, the perfect host. He helped us arrange a tour and gave great advice on the area. We loved that he identified and told us about the local animals.
Be prepared to walk some hills but it's well worth it to enjoy the beautiful views.
Overall, I would recommend this location in a heartbeat.

Costa Rica's Best
We were late getting to the property, but Chuck was there to greet us. Since November is the off season we had loads of peace and quiet in our beautiful room. Swimming (what a pool!) and seeing the monkeys was an everyday occurence. Chuck was so helpful in lining up fun tours and told us the best places to eat. We walked to the beach and took the bus back. Greatest beach around is about a half mile away. Steep climb, but well worth it. This property is unique and well maintained. The pictures on the website are good representations of the value you will find. What a terrific way to get to know this part of Costa Rica.

Loved It
My wife and I spent eight weeks here in January and February 2013. We loved it. In 2012 we spent three months in Cabuya on the Nicoya Peninsula and as much as we enjoyed that, we found the Manuel Antonio area much more pleasant.
The apartment building, El Paseo del Mar, is situated on the same road as the Hotel Mariposa. In fact it is just below the hotel which means that visitors don’t have a long walk to the top of the hill to the main road which runs between Quepos and the Manuel Antonio Park. It also means that a car is not necessary if one isn’t planning on doing a lot of day trips outside the immediate area of Manuel Antonio and Quepos. It is quite convenient for shopping, restaurants, and the bus. Many other places along this road are further down a fairly steep hill which makes for a long walk for those without a car.
There are a lot of restaurants in the area. There are some which are inexpensive and many which are moderately priced. However, one need not spend a fortune to eat out. The only thing lacking was the inexpensive soda that can be found in most parts of Costa Rica. A well-equipped grocery store is about a kilometer away. On Saturday mornings we went to Quepos to get vegetables and fruit at the farmers’ market.
The apartments are about 600 sq ft which is big enough since most of the time we were outdoors. One of the reasons we chose this place was that it had a pool and a nice patio surrounding it. On one side of the building a ridge rises up which is completely forested. The trees give easy access for monkeys. There was never a day that went by that we didn’t see large numbers of monkeys: Howlers, Squirrel and Capuchins. The Squirrel and Capuchins sometimes came to the pool area. We even saw sloths.
The present owner of El Paseo del Mar, Chuck Quinlan, is more than helpful. Whenever we had any problem with the apartment he made sure that it was put right immediately. He also has lots of insight into life in Costa Rica because he has lived there for almost twenty years. His assistant Edith is ready to book any tours that visitors might have. What we really appreciated was the daily maid service.
We highly recommned El Paseo del Mar. With its close proximity to a beautiful beaches and lots of services it is a great place to stay, especially those who are looking for a home away from home. However, even people looking to stay for a night or two will find El Paseo del Mar a great spot.

Perfect Place to Stay in Quepos/Manuel Antonio
All the reviews of this great place are spot on. The room overlooking the jungle and pool are tastefully furnished by the artist/owner, who first moved to Costa Rica in 1995. He bought the land that the apartment is situated on when there was practically nothing else here. Now there are multi-million dollar houses and hotels surrounding El Paseo del Mar. The apartment has a well furnished kitchen, king-sized bed, beautiful bathroom, and a balcony over the rain forest. You can listen to a symphony of birds or the cacophony of the howler monkeys who visit regularly. The owner is very helpful and knowledgeable about the area.
I highly recommend a stay here over a hotel.

This is the place to stay in the Manuel Antonio , Quepos area. Chuck and his staff will make your vacation wonderful. We liked not having to rent a car. Bus system is reliable and taxis are cheap. Any tours that you may want to take can be arranged by the staff. We took the extreme tour a waterfall rappelling adventure that you should not miss.Grocery store and many good restaurants are only a short walk. The apartment was excellent with a nice infinity pool and monkeys visiting almost every day. It is an adventure in itself talking to Chuck and his vast experiences in the rain forest.

Le personnel ainsi que le propriétaire sont très gentils et nous vous conseillons fortement Manuel Antonio.

Monkeys, Sloths and Huskies...oh my
Our apartment at El Paseo del Mar Apartments was exactly as described. The apartment was definitely well appointed, modern, clean and comfortable. Chuck, the owner, was pleasant and helpful during our stay.
It's all about location and this place certainly was well located to the beach, Manuel Antonio National Park and the town of Quepos. There was a small market just up the road where you could buy just about anything you might need during your stay..
One improvement that I would make in the description, however, is to provide better directions on how to find it. Since it is not located on the main road heading to the park out of Quepos, you have to know that your need to turn right at the sign for the Hotel Parador and then proceed down the small road to find the apartment. It took us about 45 minutes to figure out where it was.
The beach is about a five minute walk-however, it is down a rather steep road which could be a challenge walking back up. I'd recommend driving down instead-you can literally drive up to the beach.
It is true-monkeys will come right to your balcony and do like to hang out near the pool-we have some great photos of a cute Titi literally right next to us. The serenade of the howler monkeys reminds you that you are in a rainforest that is still unsullied by development.
At one of the many restaurants that are close by,Salsipuedes, you can see sloths in the trees right next to your table (great food as well). The Anaconda, the restaurant at Costa Verde, has a great Tapas bar that we enjoyed our last night there.
Oh, and the Husky? His name is Goofy and he likes to sleep in the garage. Give him a pat when you see him.
