Good breakfast with two options (buffet or traditional Japanese) offered at two of the on-sit4e restaurants. Allergens were marked on all the buffet items.
Nothing :)

Old style hotel with high quality service. Great central location, above underground station, walking distance to Gion, Nishiki Market, shops, restaurants cafes etc.Spacious, comfortable, well equipped bedroom/bathroom. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again.
I knew upfront but still don’t like having to pay extra for the use of the gym (also not cheap).

Lovely hotel in a lovely position for lots of sites within walking distance. (If you like walking).
Chines restaurant was very good on basement 1 .(I know!! Why am I eating Chinese in Japan? Don't eat Fish or Mushrooms!!)
Second night was noisy even on the 8th floor Sirens going on repeatedly for hours & boy racers with No silencers. But first night was fine!

We liked the service. The staff were very helpful and attentive.
The rooms were clean.
The location was central to most tourist attractions.
That you have to pay for the gym and pool.
The beds were not comfortable and each occupant should have their own bed.

The lobby is immaculate and historic. The location is ideal. the staff are exemplary. the price is too low for their standards! They even refunded our last night when we had to check out the prior afternoon unexpectedly. The staff are extraordinarily nice and competent. better than a Ritz Carlton.
Nothing.

Hotel Okura has to be the higlight of our trip. They did everything right, including upgrading our room for free, because of our honeymoon. Would definitely come back and recommend to everyone!

Super clean hotel and located at a subway station so its easy to travel. There is also a shuttle to kyoto train station which was usful for us at checkout. Good breakfast buffet also. Big thank you on the concierge servuce for restaurant recommandations and reservations, we had the best spots recommended.
The rooms are small and not really organised. We were in hotels that were size comparable but had more space due to furniture arrangment. Not ideal when you have 2 big suitcases. One side of the bed is directly againt the wall which makes it jard to get up at night.

The hotel itself is beautiful, clean, has a way to get to the subway without having to go outside (nice on a rainy day), and had lots of shops underneath. The rooms were spacious compared with most rooms in Japan, and the beds were a little more comfortable than other hotels. The staff was very friendly and easily capable of communicating in English.
Part of the reason I chose this hotel was for the pool, which a lot of hotels in Japan do not have. However, it is not explained on the site that the pool is only for adults (it says the fitness center is, but doesn't say this for the pool). I was very disappointed in this and would have stayed somewhere else, had I known this. Also, it does say that the laundry is an additional charge, but 770yen for one shirt or blouse, 1210yen for one pair of trousers, etc is outrageous. Other hotels that say the same thing (laundry for an additional charge) cost 500 yen for an entire load, from wash to dry. So, I had to go find a coin laundry nearby to do my laundry.

Amazing breakfast. Lovely views. Beautiful, classic hotel. A little dated, particularly the bathrooms, but still very good. Rooms rather small but comfortable.

Pool was just for adults!

The service of the hotel staff, especially the conceive lady and the staff who have helped me to deliver my big luggage from Kyoto to Kanazawa. They are very helpful and patient to explain.
WiFi is very slow and not stable!
This is very frustrating!

The quality of service, concierge service, bell service, food and beverage service, attitude of housekeeping, attentive by the hotel staff, truly reflects the service training of an international 5 star hotel property!! The concierge service was the best I have experienced, particularly since I spent 47 years in the hospitality industry. To exceed my expectations is a compliment to the Okura management!
Keep up the good work!!!

Hotel and staff were exceptional. Room was lovely. Bed was comfortable. Staff were very helpful when we needed medical attention.
The disappointment was that the four nights I originally booked were at a special rate around $200 a night. This was excellent value. But when I needed urgently to stay an extra night I was charged around $350 for the extra night. Not such good value. I didn't find a pool or onsen, either of which we would have enjoyed.

Good:
- Blown away by the view! With mountains and river
- Love the toiletries they provided. La Mer shampoo/body soap- i like it! Hair feels smooth and good after.
- Spacious and clean room
- good location! While its not at right smack at the bustling gion area, i very much preferred the short walk back to hotel. Feels serene. Right below, they have a train station and is sheltered (almost) all the way nishiki market! No worries for rain!
- underground area has A LOT of things to shop for. Supermarket, local confectionery, restaurants, clothings
- very fast response when contacting them online (via booking.com)
Not so good:
I wouldnt call it bad because these are very minor issues.
1. I asked for some special birthday arrangement and they said they would provide a card. Its for my young daughter and i thought it would have been a nice gesture but they forgotten about it (receptionist did wish my daughter a happy birthday)
2. I booked this hotel for the swimming pool for my family but the pool is only for adults and we have to pay additional ¥3300 each!
3. Kids square: i dont know what is it but i thought it would be nice for the kids. It was closed by 5pm and i asked the front desk- they know nothing about it. Didnt even know it closes at 5pm when i asked. They told me it was still opened. Do note: gotta pay extra for it. So do ask and book in advance

It's a lovely hotel, comfortable and scrupulously clean but it was the service that stood out, we got lost between the hospitality lounge and the train station and the next time a staff member showed us the way. Such kindness!
