We had safety concerns at this property and left without entering the house. The roads into the area are rutted and single lane. Several times we had to pull over or into a driveway to let another car or truck pass. From owner: "Old Albany Post Road is a gravel road [usually well maintained – but rutted after heavy rains". After we finally arrived at the house, the car is parked some distance from the house. You must walk over an extremely uneven stone walkway. We were unable to walk safely and carry our suitcases - they cannot be wheeled over the stones. Finally, we decided it was not safe to enter an unlocked house in the evening. From owner: "Front door key is under the raccoon to the left of the front door. Please replace the key under the raccoon as soon as you open the door. It is our only key. If by any chance you find yourself locked out, go to the back door. It is never locked." Had we been informed of these limitations and conditions prior to our being unable to cancel, we would have cancelled our reservation. However, these instructions were not sent until after the no refund date passed. Concerned for our safety, we sought other accommodations which was difficult during leaf peeping season. Owners should ensure the safety of their guests. Leaving houses unlocked is never acceptable.

The woodsy setting was beautiful...quiet and full of colorful Fall foliage. The house was not as expected. There is no outdoor sitting area even though the photographs on the website displayed an outdoor deck. Sitting outside was not possible. The interior of the home had a musty smell throughout. The place did not feel fresh or particularly clean. For example ,the soaps in the showers looked used, floor mats in bathrooms were soiled, and the kitchen sink area had broken used bits of soap and funky sponges. The house and furnishings are very dated.

We loved our extra-long weekend at Rima's house, especially dinners on the large screen porch, watching birds take turns at the multiple feeders around the property, playing games around the coffee table in the living room, reading in the chair with views of the rock garden and humming birds, and napping in the hammock on the porch! During the day we explored different towns along the Hudson River but were always happy to come back to the house as night fell, the crickets (?) tuned up their orchestra, and the coyotes called to each other in the distance. This property is a great home base from which to explore the area on foot if you like to hike or in a car if you want to go farther afield. Fun!

The house is in a very peaceful setting in the woods surrounded by nature and gave our family a relaxing, nice place to gather. The 3 season porch is beautiful. There are birdfeeders with an abundance of birds. Rima was really easy to work with. The house is further from West Point than I appreciated and the roads leading up to the house are challenging.

Great spot to hangout and get away from the city. Enjoyed it very much.

The only reason we did not rate five stars was that four out of five days we did not have cable or internet. This was due to the weather and no fault of the owners. Rima was very responsive and apologetic to these issues. The beds were comfortable, the scenery beautiful and we would definitely recommend this home to others. Thank you for sharing.

We had a cadet participating in a sports event at West Point and wanted something different than the standard hotel road trip. We had a stressful day commuting up but the drive from La Guardia was simple and the fall leaf colors were spectacular. Although it was mostly dark when we arrived the directions were not hard. Boy you feel you are far from the hustle and bustle of the city in the beautiful woods and forest. The house is filled with books, and music, and comfortable seats for reading and relaxing.
For me, this place would be what it would be like if someone had gone into my brain and then created for me the perfect restful cabin.
West Point is an easy drive, and our cadet immediately relaxed here after the sporting event. It is so different from the dorm, or standard hotels. We had good meals and wonderful hikes and board games by a nice fire..
I highly recommend this place and secretly hope that we will have the opportunity again next year to come and spend a long weekend..

Three of us stayed here for a week and used the house as a base while we hiked the Appalachian Trail through New York. The house is centrally located between Connecticut and New Jersey and right down the road from an AT trailhead, so it was perfectly located for our hikes.
The house itself has lovely furnishings that fulfill the promise of the pictures in its description. The kitchen is well-equipped. Unlike kitchens in many other houses we have rented, this kitchen has quality utensils and even All-Clad pans. Eating areas both inside and outside on the screened porch are most pleasant. The beds were comfortable. The woodland setting is lovely.
As others have noted, be sure to follow the owner's directions to reach the house. Our Garmin GPS did not recognize some roads in this area, with the result that its guidance was between inefficient and downright wrong.
In all, we enjoyed our stay at the house and recommend it.
