Amazing views.
Peaceful.
No distraction of TV.
The driveway needs serious attention.

Great staff, great location, beautiful room.
The food was good. But could be higher to align with top standard of the lodge.

Beautiful setting, lovely relaxed environment.
The spa baths in the room were not working properly. Thankfully still able to have a bath. When pre booking for dinner cost was taken out when total accommodation was I felt we should have been pre warned as I had not allowed for this 3 days before our stay.

The area is really nice and away from everything and the room, although a little dated is how the photos show it to be. The pastry before breakfast was amazing.
We turned on the spa bath while we were in the bath and had 50+ live bugs and a lot of dirt come out of the jets into the bath we were in. We stood up covered in moving bugs... this wasn't great, but what really ruined our night was the staff disregarding us saying that there's a sign saying not to turn it on (there was no such sign) and said we just shouldn't have turned it on and that it doesn't state in the listing there's a spa bath rather than immediately apologising for what was clearly a major error on their behalf... a romantic getaway turned very sour. Probably a one off, but this still ruined our night and our stay.
Cleanliness was lacking throughout the whole property with the bathroom facilities appearing not to have been properly cleaned, showers were entirely covered in white stuff and there was a bit of poo in the toilet, glasses weren't clean either and had lip marks on them still.

This is a romantic get-away paradise! The views are stunning, the fire is cozy and the food is exceptional!
You will have no reason to leave however if you need to Warkworth is a 20min drive away.
Definitely make a dinner reservation you will not be disappointed!

Perfection! Amazing view, good food! Highly recommend for couples getaway
The gravel road to get there- I think during night time can be quite difficult

Everything was wonderful. We found it hard to get the fireplace working in our room but we also hadn't asked the staff to help us out, which may have been an easy fix or even a missed step on our end. But everything was fabulous.

The service was awesome, arrived a bit early and was offered tea or coffee. Our group had a wander around the beautiful premises and then relaxed in the bar/chess room to enjoy our hot drinks.
Our accommodation was superb. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. Lovely peaceful views of the valley. The breakfast and pastries were delicious. Friendly staff.
We didn't like the drive up to the lodge. Not a fan of gravel roads. Went to Matakana to a concert and driving back in the dark on some parts of the narrow gravel road, was a bit scary.

Friendly welcoming staff, great restaurant meal, beautiful villa with fantastic deep bath beautifully positioned by bifold windows so you could relax and enjoy the views. Fantastic location. It was a real treat to stay here for our anniversary.
There was nothing disappointing about our stay.

1. The food is good
2. The friendly and helpful staff.
3. 5 star scenery
The facilities in the room.
1. The plug of the bath tub was broken and the spa function was not working.
2. The bath bomb/salt was provided. However, i would recommend you bring your own because you can't tell the difference.
3. The kettle is too old to use. We cleaned so many times but still couldn't get rid off the white thingy stuck at the bottom of the kettle.
4. We could see the spider web at the corner of the room.
5. No internal phone to call reception.

Main Lodge very nice, and staff were exceptional.
The villa was a little tired with marks on the carpet, and spider webs on the light, and water leaks around the base of the bathroom vanity unit.

We liked how private the villas were
There isn’t anything we didn’t like

The isolated loaction was brilliant, the views made the drive well worth it. The main part of the lodge felt high-end and clasyy. Tasefully decorated, but not over the top. The staff were brilliant from booking to check-out and the food was great.
The room was large, comfrtable and well kitted out. I really liked that there was no TV!
The rooms, dining and bar were faultless. There are only two things that could've been better - and they are minor... 1) would be for better signage on the driveways - the rooms were a litte tricky to find upon arrival. 2) The room we used for our meeting could've been a bit better set up. A better table, some more comfortable chairs, plus easier access to power and the hdmi cable. Again, minor stuff that we worked through and I would've never thought about again had this not been asked.

Our villa was gorgeous, big space with fire, luxurious bed and amazing spa bath. We are a taller couple and fit comfortably for relaxation. Lovely view and great big outdoor spa bath/pool and sauna. It made the whole relaxing experience.
The idea of a double shower was exciting but it was super out of date. Bad pressure, could tell it was an old system and it would either be freezing or super hot, wasn't pleasant. Low grade coffee/tea/herbal tea selection and outdated radio.
We had dinner at the premises as it is a bit of a drive to other choices - read good reviews but we have been to many 4/5 star restaurants/ala carte', this was pretty substandard. Was $110 per person which was not worth what we got in return. Was a little disappointing. The atmosphere and amidendce could have been better with more modern music.
I requested gluten free and diary free options but was advised Soup would be my only choice. I think this isn't very good considering many places now have a vast range of healthier/fresh alternatives that aren't cooked through with butter. I sucked up my IBS symptom's for the night as we were paying so much for dinner that I wasn't going to resort for soup. Sadly left not feeling so great - but there weren't many other choices. Especially for breakfast. Food was nice but portion sizes tiny, and not value for money.
The road to the lodge of about 15mins is fulll of pot holes. You are having to dodge your whole way down. I'm not joking, ALOT of pot holes. So it isn't a relaxing view of the forest and mountains while you arrive. If you don't want to reck your nice car a SUV or Truck would be more practical.
We are Kiwis from Auckland City and understand the cost of these kinds of stayactions in NZ but you would expect everything to be perfect when paying $700 for a night away from 3pm - 10am. The lodge is advisertised as a luxury 5 star, so I definitely think improvements can be made.
Overall, we enjoyed out time.
