Luxurious villa with huge garden & private Heated pool in paradise environment
About this villa rental
Villa Melitta is a noble house built by George Hatzidakis. He used all his research into traditional architecture and put all his love into the house. The project was finished in 2004. In the middle of a 5000 sq.m fruit grove, rises a small palace, reminding us of a Venetian villa. Melitta is situated just outside of the village of Melidoni, in a quiet environment with a broad and beautiful view of the Tallaia mountains and Psiloritis. There is a wide variety of trees in its huge garden – orange, olive, pear, apple, and peach trees – offering fruits throughout the year. There are also flowers and organically grown vegetables in the backyard of the house. The house covers 250 M2 and there are 5 bedrooms – 2 on the ground floor and 3 on the upper floor – which can accommodate 10 persons, or even 12 if you use the two sofa beds of the sitting room. It has a tasteful interior and there are two verandas on the upper floor, offering you a choice of the view you prefer. Further Details for The Villa In Rethymno,Crete: The nearest airport of Heraklion (HER) is located 50 km east of the villa, while the port of Rethymnon lies at a distance of 29 km. The airport of Chania (CHQ) is another 90km to the west, that is a 1 hour 30 min drive. A car rental can be arranged to pick you up at the airport and drive you to your villa. As the owners cooperate with a car rental company you have the opportunity to hire cars in unique prices!!! The nearest beach of Bali lies at a distance of 6 km, it is sandy and offers many opportunities for water sports. There are also quiet locations for guests to enjoy the beach without being annoyed by nearby jet-skiers or water-skiers. The sandy beach of Panormo offers you a second choice for swimming near the area. There are plenty of beautiful beaches in the area also! There are some interesting excursions you can go in Kastri, Melidoni and the outskirts. The distances and routes are shown on the map in the web page. The garden area is 5000 sq.m. Inside the garden there is a kiosk, BBQ area, beautiful plants, fruit trees and many corners to relax. There is also a 50 M2 adult swimming pool and a 12 M2 children’s swimming pool. The discreet stone wall surrounding the gardens and the cool shade of the house offer privacy and, you will feel that, time passes by at your own pace, offering you a sense of childish happiness.

Lovely villa. Bedrooms and bathrooms were great. Wonderful large pool with sunbeds and parasols.
Kitchen had everything we needed and there was a large BBQ .
Only small suggestion, would have been nice to have more information about where to go for supermarkets (Perama), restaurants (Panormo) and best beaches (worth the drive to the south coast).

We enjoyed our time at the Vila!!

The villa was exactly as advertised and exceeded our expectations. The owner and family were extremely welcoming and helpful, as was everyone we encountered in Meldoni village which was a short walk away.
The facilities in the villa provided everything we needed. The barbecue area was a great social area as was the shaded outside terrace, with ample seating and bespoke tables.
The swimming pools were absolute gems, loved by the children especially.
The gardens were well maintained and the views of the surrounding area were spectacular.
We loved our stay at the villa and hope we can return one day.

Had a lovely stay with adults/teenagers in this great villa.
The pool/outdoor area were fabulous.
The villagers of Melodini were extremely welcoming and friendly.

Beautiful villa with a lovely garden and pool. The Melidoni village is also very interesting, with a good restaurant and interesting attractions (Reptile Park, Honey museum, Melidoni cave).

We had a brilliant week at Villa Melitta in early April. We were a group of 4 adults and 5 children from 4-9 and fitted perfectly in the house. The kids loved playing all round the gardens and would collect oranges to give us a neverending supply of delicious fresh juice. We paid to heat the pool which made it swimmable at this time of year (but still pretty chilly). We enjoyed a delicious BBQ with meat from one of the butchers in Parama.
The villa is ideally located for lots of places to visit but one unexpected highlight was Reptisland which is right next door. The kids loved being shown and handling snakes and lizards - the owner was brilliant at sharing his knowledge and love of reptiles.

I cannot say enough about this property and our experience there! My friends and I were there for a birthday getaway, and we loved our stay at the Villa Mellita. The pool was probably our favorite spot, but we had a private chef cater a meal, and the outdoor dining area was perfect, and the inside spaces gave us places to gather when it became chilly, or the bugs became too much. The air-conditioning in all of the bedrooms was a welcome relief from the heat, and it really included all the amenities we needed. We found communications once we were there to be very good, and the owners to be incredibly friendly. The village is lovely, and I cannot say enough about the people who own the businesses there, we felt like we were a part of the village by the end of the week. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking to stay in a quiet part of the island where you will be around less tourists than other spots, but can easily get to beaches, and local interest places that were recommended by all the locals. I would absolutely stay here again!

Fantastic house for group holiday
This is a really nice house in a lovely village with a surprisingly large number of things to do. The house was very clean and owners very welcoming (nice welcome gifts and olive oil to take home!). The village has a lovely taverna in the square, and some interesting tourist locations right on the doorstep (caves and a small-but-fantastic reptile attraction which the kids loved). Downsides: the biggest one for us was that (in October half term) despite paying extra for the pool to be heated, it was not warm enough to be pleasant to be in for long. Also for a large house the communal indoor space is not huge, so for instance you would struggle to sit down as a large group on sofas or at the kitchen table (this is probably not a concern in summer but we were unlucky with the weather this October).

The villa was amazing, as described online and more. The pool was a great size and all bedrooms were ample sized, two with lovely balconies overlooking the pool and mountains.Plenty of space for a large family with a large terrace to enjoy drinks and mealtimes. A super BBQ and pizza oven in yet another area in the large beautiful garden provided additional space and opportunities for family enjoyment and treasured memories. The Surrounding area was picturesque and close to a very old traditional village. The hosts were extremely welcoming and helpful. We would recommend this villa and would love to visit again. A car is recommended if you wish to visit more of Crete however there are a few small local village shops that provide essentials. Visiting the local taverna is a must as the food is excellent.

We had a wonderful stay in the Villa. The highlight was the village of Melidoni itself. The square at night with the locals was amazing. The pool was great and we enjoyed the outside grilling/pizza oven area. We ordered a fresh lamb that we grilled outside on a rotisserie with the help of the owner and locals from the village. There are many beautiful fruit trees in the garden, however nothing was really ripe yet except lemons and herbs. The hosts are kind, generous, and always available to help. The internet was not that great, but we didn't complain because we didn't really need it much. There were a lot of mosquitos and gnats that bite - so remember bug spray! My kids loved the cats in the neighborhood. You need to have a car to get around in general, but there are some nice things to do in walking distance (great Taverna, Reptisland, Melidoni Cave, Honey producer, Olive oil factory, The Cave souvenir shop, village square, local supermarkets, etc.). Bedroom 5 in the description is not accurate... there is just one queen bed. We planned for 3 teenagers to share that room, but instead had to use one of the rooms with 2 Twin beds and the owners brought an extra fold away bed (which was on the small side... not a full Twin).

A wonderful 'getaway' up in the mountains of Melidoni.
We were a family of 10 - 6 adults and 4 kids. We all had a fantastic time here. The villa was ideal, spacious, comfortable, clean, with all the facilities that you'd need. A wonderful good size swimming pool too which we asked for to be heated as we visited in October. Its very close to the little village, a 2 mins walk where there was a little supermarket for basics, fresh veg, fruit and daily bread! Also there was a great little Taverna called 'Dili Dili' - local home cooked food to order within a friendly comfortable environment. The villa is set within a plantation of orange and pomegranate trees which we picked every day and made fresh juice. It's only a few miles away from Perama ( another bigger town) with Supermarkets, restaurants, bakery but it's a short drive away. We made use of the outside pizza oven and BBQ and all the various seating arrangements within the grounds. On the whole, a GREAT stay!

Perfect family villa, tranquil, relaxing, clean and just on edge of small and welcoming village
Beautiful location, beautiful villa which was well equipped with owners discreetly on hand for any support needed. 10 min drive from nearest beach and 2 min walk from rustic village. Ideal for family. The homemade honey, local metaxa and ouzo were a nice touch on arrival too. Could not fault our stay

Loved Villa Melitta
Just returned from an amazing 2 week stay at Villa Melitta. Lovely welcome basket on arrival and friendly greeting from the owners. Facilities were perfect, beautiful outdoor space, lovely pool with separate kids pool. Lots of great areas to sit outside in garden with a large shaded area perfect to get out of the sun for lunch. We also made use of the bbq and wood fire pizza oven.
Spacious indoors with 2 bedrooms, 1 with en-suite, and separate bathroom downstairs and 3 bedrooms, 1 with en-suite, and separate bathroom upstairs. We were a group of 2 families with young children (aged 5 and 2 x 18 months) and Antonis was really helpful with any questions prior to arrival and confirming use of cots, high chairs and stair gates etc.
We would definitely recommend Villa Melitta.

Family time at Villa Melitta
3generations of our family have just enjoyed a wonderful relaxing holiday at Villa Melitta with its lovely garden and beautiful views.
The Hatzidakis family were very kind and helpful .
We decided to have the pool heated, as quite early in the season , and this was a huge success and much enjoyed by all the family.
There is a good taverna in the unspoilt village of Melidoni and pleasant beaches within easy reach.
Overall a great success!

Beautiful villa, which manages to combine privacy with bring close to local shops & amenities
Beautiful villa set in absolutely lovely grounds with lemon & orange trees and pomegranates, which has been designed to be completely private. The inside is luxurious with five bedrooms and four well appointed bathrooms. The showers even have great water pressure which is unusual for Greece. The most comfortable retreat for big or small families, just wonderful.

Beautiful villa with fantastic pool a short walk from unspoilt village. Heaven!
We loved the villa. When we arrived we discovered it wasn’t as wheelchair accessible as we had thought , this was remedied within 24hrs with the installation of 2 stone ramps outside and a custom made wooden ramp allowing access to the kitchen. Amazingly helpful and hospitable, thank you Hatzidakis family. The best pool we have experienced anywhere , Lovely fresh cotton sheets changed twice a week added an extra luxurious edge to the holiday. Very private and quiet in its own orchard. Delicious Pomegranates, lemons, onions , basil and rosemary all fresh from the garden. Tha charming village of Melidoni is a 5 minute stroll away with a couple of tavernas and shops and there are some good beaches 15 minutes drive away. A great base to explore the region from or just close the gates and hide away. Bliss

Great place to stay
Really helpful hosts. Villa has everything you could want, tucked away in the hills with an amazing view. Beach only 6 miles away but who needs it with a perfect pool. On edge of Melidoni village. Just a few minutes walk to centre of village which has 3 restaurants and 2 small supermarkets. Delightful people.

lovelyplace for a family holiday
Our hosts were extremely helpful and friendly, and when there were any problems they were quick to put them right. The gardens are beautiful as are the views. The pool is lovely too, the only disappointment was that it was not heated as had been advertised, and as we went early in the season it was too cold for the less hardy of our group to swim.
There is lots to see and do locally including Knossos which is an easy trip. The tavernas are reasonably priced and food was good.

Lovely villa with a gorgeous pool in a great location
We had a wonderful stay in this modern yet traditional villa, with welcoming hosts. It was ideal for an extended family holiday as it had plenty of bathrooms and large seating areas, we all really enjoyed the gorgeous pool and picking oranges for breakfast every morning. The location is ideal, a very short walk to a traditional village for basic supplies and yet private with superb views of the mountains and countryside.

Fantastic stay in a lovely villa
The villa was absolutely great: well maintained grounds full of fruit trees (oranges, lemons, grapefruits and others which the kids loved eating/juicing), lovely spacious villa, plenty of options for outdoor cooking and dining, great sized pool, idyllic surroundings, comfortable beds and clean rooms. The owner and his wife met us on our (late) arrival and were incredibly welcoming and helpful. The location is great (once you get your bearings and know which routes to favour). Hyper-locally we visited the local village a number of times, plus the caves, the 'Riptisland' (reptilarium), a local olive oil farm (Paraschkis) and a small winery (Klados, who's wine pleasantly surprised us). Further afield we visited multiple beaches (favouring the beaches of Bali towards the second half of the stay), a larger winery and a water park (Water City) as well as a number of local towns (Margarites was especially nice). Would completely and totally recommend a stay at this villa.

Fabulous villa!
The villa and grounds exceeded expectations. With ages ranging from nearly 2 to 65 years old, it worked very well for us all. The different outdoor seating options were a real treat. We do not return to the same places as there's so much to explore but with a place this good, we might be breaking that rule!

Outstanding Villa
The position was perfect for us, quiet with wonderful views, just a short drive to the beach. The villa was excellent, clean, well maintained and equipped with everything we needed. The garden and swimming pool (heated - nice so early in the year) were lovely. All in all," just what it said on the tin".

Lovely villa in perfect surroundings
We had a lovely stay at Villa Melitta. The villa is large, clean and well decorated and is in a very quiet and peaceful location. The heated pool was warm enough to swim without needing to get out too quickly! Our young grandchildren particularly liked the small pool which was deep enough for them to swim but shallow enough to stand up in. The gardens and grounds are large and well maintained. We loved being able to pick oranges and lemons from the trees and to make fresh juice to drink. The villa is very private and safe. It is a short walk from Melodoni village which is small and very greek but does have two mini markets and a taverna. We had a brilliant time at the villa helped by the fantastic weather. We very much hope to return.

Wonderful. Very well designed and presented. Loved
The house is wonderful and sits in beautiful gardens with the pool out to the front and stunning views. We went as two families and the upstairs and downstairs worked perfectly as two comfortable areas for us to use. Local people were very friendly and eating out was very good value indeed.

Early spring stay at Villa Melitta
Stunning property in a traditional Cretian village with mountain views. If you want to get away from it all and have the space to relax in very private & peaceful surroundings then you will not be disappointed! We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Melitta, spending hours in the beautifully cared for grounds and pool.
Picking fresh oranges and lemons each day from the trees in the huge orchard within the garden was a simple pleasure that just added something special to the whole experience! That plus the large heated pool (and separate kiddies pool) made it perfect for spending real quality time together as a family. The rooms were all immaculately maintained and cleaned professionally with more of a luxury hotel feel rather than the average villa rental. The personalised sheets and towels showed the attention to detail and effort that goes into taking care of the property....first class! The Hazidikis family who own the property were also very welcoming, friendly and helpful in every aspect. Not many places that we have visited leave us with a desire to return but Villa Melitta and Crete certainly did.....fantastic memories that we all cherish and we will definitely return in the near future. Thanks once again for allowing us to experience your little paradise in Crete. Kind regards, Paul Harris and family.

Absolutely fabulous
This fantastic house provided us with a perfect base for celebrating my parents golden wedding anneverserary. My Brothers comment I think says it all. "We could just buy food for a week an close the gate. It was heavenly. As we drowe up the path after entering the gate all the orangetrees greeted us with an abundance of fruit. We were speechless upon entering the house as all the details are immacuately tended too. The beauty of the surrounding area means that no matter where you look you see breathtaking Mountains. We enjoyed the pool and the owners father poped by to check that the Water was clear end everything in working order Fortunately the water is not chlorinated. We enjoyed wonderfull barbeques in the backyard and most of our breakfast and lunches we enjoyed under the gazeebo type area outside. Two days before we left Denmark to go to Creth I had a phonecall from the owner just to let me konw that they were expecting us and the rental cars we had rented thru the owner of the house were ready and waiting for us. This was a really nice touch and left me reassured that we were off to spend our vacation where everything was sortet.
I highly recommend this property and it's owner the only thing that was wrong with this Holiday was that it should have lasted three weeks

Wonderful vacation home
Villa Melitta is a beautiful home in a quiet small town. The house has everything you need - air conditioning, pool, large grass outdoor space, laundry, and beautiful bedrooms. The charming small town of Melidoni is a 3 minute walk and has a few restaurants/bars and 2 small markets.
The beaches of Bali, Panorma and many others are a short drive from the house. You definitely need a car to get to the beaches and other attractions (we visited a few monastaries, a cave, the ancient town of Chania, an olive oil producer).
The house, pool and gardens are very well maintained. This was the cleanest house we have ever rented. Antonis and his family welcomed us with food and made sure we were comfortable. When the coffee maker broke a new one was brought over within a few minutes. They always answered our calls and questions. The gardens were beautifully landscaped and we even had grapes, tomatoes and peppers growing in the garden for us to enjoy.
It's a perfect house and location for families or groups. The food on Crete was amazing at every restaurant we visited. We absolutely loved our vacation there and can't wait to return to Crete and Villa Melitta.

Great family villa
Great property in a quiet location. This is a particularly good property for a large family or two smaller families people. It's a compound. Pool and outdoor bbq and dining are great. Gated property gives lots of privacy. You're as likely to spend a good part of your stay at the house vs exploring. Melidoni is an easy walk where you can get basic groceries. Pernomos is 10 mins away and has a bunch of good tavernas. Bali beach is 15 min away. Rethymnon is 25 min away. Owner was very helpful. Would rent this property again.
