For the price, location, onsen, cleanliness and food made it a good stay.
Right on the slopes by the gondola. Staff very friendly and helpful. Clean rooms. Good food.
Overall a bit dated and worn. Has seen better days but it weathered the pandemic and likely will be back up to speed when travel resumes in earnest.

To really enjoy Shiga Kogen, treat yourself to a little bit of luxury and stay at Iwasuge !!
A true Japanese experience, with marvelous breakfast and dinner. Enough food to satisfy a Sumo wrestler. Brilliant !! Fantastic Onsen ... Really big with panoramic windows looking out over the slopes. The staff speak very little English, but they will go out of their way to ensure you have the best experience possible. I think I was the only non-Japanese person staying there and I really enjoyed my week at Iwasuge. There was a booking.com mistake in that I booked a twin room with single occupancy, but got charged for dual occupancy. Iwasuge noticed this, contacted me, and the difference was refunded. If they had not of done this, I would never have been aware of the mistake. Thank you so much for your integrity. Local bus stop is only a short walking distance away, but a little steep and slippery, so Iwasuge's pick up and drop is is really appreciated. Conversely, if you mis-time the last lifts to get back, the local bus shuttle will get you there (Hoppo Onsen bus stop) and then a 100m walk, and you are home easily in any case. I booked the mountain view room and was really glad that I treated myself to this bit of extra luxury. Yes, I will certainly be looking forward to staying at Iwasuge on my next trip to Shiga Kogen.
Just a "heads up" in that it is not truely "ski-out ski-in". Yes, you can ski out to the gondola station, but that opens a little later than other lifts, and maybe not at all if it's snowing heavily or it's windy. To get to other lifts, such as bottom of Giant, you'll need a 100m walk before being able to ski. And you will definitely have a 100m walk at the end of the day to get back to Iwasuge.
