it was clean. toiletries in the bathroom
it’s a rundown place. When you enter the room there is a faint smell of sewage. TV wasn’t working and when we told the receptionist, she said “ yes, we know”, but no effort to get it repaired!

The morning front desk guy spoke good English and was servceminded.
This is 4* hotel in a very bad state. I cut my foot on broken floor tiles in my room.
When i asked for a bucket (like the one used to cool wine) of ice, they told me that they didn't have any and brought me 8 pcs. of ice cubes in a plastic bag, not in a glass but a plastic bag. When I asked for more ice, they (young woman at the front desk) told me that I couldn't get more and that I could go to the nearby petrol station and buy it. I travel for a living and have never been in a (worse) 4* hotel that can't afford to give ice to a customer. I needed ice because both my knees hurt because I just walked 31 km on Camino. Also, in my room booking confirmation, there was a confirmed mini bar, which I needed to cool my water, but there was no mini bar, so I was not given what I paid for. There was no toillet brush at the bathroom! All in all, this hotel is at best 2*

Although the "medieval knights" theme was a bit over the top, the hotel provided everything we needed in the way of clean and comfortable beds for the night. Location near the railway station was good (we had an early train to catch in the morning), and it was an easy walk to the historic centre of Ponferrada.

Everything was perfect, super comfortable bed, clean, quiet, cool looking medieval hotel. Really good location too. No complaints at all.

The staff was friendly and we could safely park our bikes for free. The location is also very good. Breakfast is good :)
There are a couple of small things for us that we didn't like so much. Starting with the WIFI in the room, which was terrible or not working at all. Only in the main areas of the hotel the wifi was good. On top of bad connection in the room, we could only use the WIFI for 2 days. The day of our departure the code already expired.
The thing that holds up the showerhead on the wall was broken and clearly it fell down a couple of times since also the bathtub had some damages right below it.
The pictures that are shown on Booking.com are only of the luxery rooms.
All small things that we wouldn't mind if the dinner was better.
We booked half board so dinner was included. After booking we found out that on the first night the restaurant was closed so we got offered lunch instead. No problem for us. Although this lunch was microwaved, it tasted okay.
The next day however the dinner (christmas dinner) we got was clearly below standard. Again everything was heated up in the microwave and tasted like old shoe. WOULD DEFINITLY NOT RECOMMEND EATING HERE.

Fabulous looking hotel, lots of artefacts in lobby etc. nice room, good location.
breakfast was a total shambles, no staff to clear tables, replenish food etc. Had hardly anything left even early on the day we ate there. the same at the bar in the evening. had to ask someone elsewhere for a bottle of wine which arrived with the cork in. then had to ask for ice bucket which leaked everywhere. then just got given a corkscrew to open wine myself. not impressed at all. and charged for it without any price list or mention of cost and it was more expensive than we would have expected. would not return in a hurry, unless they improve staffing.

atmosphere
WAY UNDERSTAFFED in every department

Well.. the hotel is basically a ‘70s building disguised as a medieval building, which is kinda creepy but also very well done :)
The hotel has been renewed but there are many details that still show its age. Breakfast is pretty anonymous

Provided gluten free options for my breakfast, cereal, bread with a seperate gluten free toaster and cookies.
Location was close to bus station but away from the "Camino vibes" part of Ponferrada.
