The hosts were very kind and helpful. It was a very quiet location for being in the city.
The kitchen was not very clean and the cleaning products that were left to use looked a little dated. There was actually some mould around one of the windows in the bedroom too.

Not value for money and the cost for the breakfast is doubled

The room and facilities are nice and clean. The family is really friendly.
I recommend having breakfast here, quite big compared with other places.
The view on the rooftop is amazing and living room is good for working.
You need to walk quite long to the top of the hill to get to the location. Don't follow the Google Map, the location on the map was wrong. You should call them first to make sure.
Besides, I walked back from the town late at night and the road was scary they have some dogs around, so if you go back late, better to take tuktuk.

Lovely place with an awesome view due to the location on top of a hill. Everything was exceptionally clean and well maintained. I had a quiet and relaxing stay here, as planned. I can really recommend this place!

* The view is stunning!
* The lady is kind and cheerful.
* The location is a bit confusing for Tuktuks, and while the owner himself has a Tuktuk, it is double the prices on Uber/Pickme.. But I ended up just taking the owner's to save time (as I only had one night in Kandy)
* Just know that the Kandy dance (the culture center) is just behind the Temple of the Tooth.. I realized that after the owner made a full circle around the lake, He assumed that "I would want to see the lake" .. I didn't ask for this long tour and the lake is quite visible to me! and I would've preferred walking around Kandy before the shops close..
Luckily, He didn't charge me for this long ride around the lake, which is fair.. But just for heads up so you plan your trip as you would want it to be ;)

Ironically, I liked the location. On the walk from the villa, I saw mongooses and monkeys. In the nearby forest/jungle I saw a scared dog running down the road. When I went into the reservation I saw a bunch of wild pigs.
Nearby is a Five Star Hotel which is fantastic. For most of my stay I thought it was a partially built block of flats dominating the skyline. The Grand Kandyan.
This hotel is on Lady Gordon's Drive. Nearby is Lady Torrington Road. It only leads to a few houses.
The important road to remember is Sri Dhamma Dhassi Mawatha.
Coming out of Kandy on the B519 from the centre, you turn right into a small opening after Trinity College (Odean Road). As you go up the hill you will see a large sign saying LONDON BRIDGE. It is a school. A key junction is by another school, AI ICT.
You continue until you turn right onto 4th Lane. Villa Serene is at the end of 4th Lane, by which time the road has become narrow.
Villa Serene is on the side of a valley on the top of the hill.
There are steps leading from near Villa Serene down to the B519 / A9 by a cricket/football ground (Rajan Memorial Public Ground). Close to Lady Torrington Road.
There is also access at this point to Sri Dhamma Dhassi Mawatha.
My partial explanation of the road may seem long-winded but I am trying to be helpful. Initially, you or your tuk-tuk driver would be well advised to phone Villa Serene.
What was wrong with the location?
I only went out once a day into Kandy. I was walking. I used to return in a pool of sweat, my T shirt soaked.
I could have asked Mr T to pick me up in his tuk-tuk or any tuk-tuk driver. But I didn't.

The room door has a hidden gap in it where anyone outside can easily peep into the room. After confronting the owner, he claimed he had never seen it and merely asked me to cover it with a towel even after multiple requests for a different room.
During another instance, our locked room had been rummaged through when we were absent. When I confronted the owner he became extremely aggressive and rude towards me and my fiance.
Save yourself the trouble and stay away from this place its not safe.

Long overdue, I stayed in November but it was a great stay! Super friendly people, family style, good food. The bedroom is clean and comfortable enough. The view is superb from the balcony.

I wanted a weekend get away from a busy schedule, and the location and the view was amazing. I couldn't stop getting distracted from the amazing landscape view of the mountain. The place is good if you are looking for comfy rest with a good view for two or small groups looking for a short stay.

We are currently traveling with our Tuktuk through Sri Lanka and also made a stop in Kandy. First we booked two nights in the Villa Serene, but after a few minutes we extended our stay already. Not because of candy, but because we straight away felt home in this lovely and great Villa. The rooms (4) are all at one floor with a huge common living room, dining table and kitchen. you have a nice balcony as well with a beautiful view. the rooms were big with a big bathroom. the apartment was surprisingly very very clean and the owners so lovely. I’d say the most loving owners we stayed while our trip in Sri Lanka. We straight away felt home! you can order breakfast, lunch and dinner. Tissa used to be a cook in different country’s and he make nice food together with the wife. On the top you have a big rooftop terrace with also a great view over the city and mountains. Keep in mind, that the Villa isn’t in the city center and you have to walk a little bit up to get to the villa, but it was all worth it! we actually didn’t wanted to stay in the busy, loud town. The vibe is very nice and familiar. Thank you so much for hosting us. We will miss you (We already feel a bit homesick ;))
Everything was more then perfect!

i have left many reviews on this site but I honestly can say that this small guesthouse is the nicest place I’ve ever stayed (when price is factored in). the husband and wife team that ran it were amazing, going out of their way to ensure your stay was pleasant, as well as calling forward for you. also, I am the type of traveller that does not really prioritise breakfast, but this one is worth having and I would highly recommend the local breakfast. lastly, the views are what you would expect from a expensive hotel, I would like to thank you for making my stay so amazing.
it’s the top of a large hill, but you don’t get good views otherwise.

The room we got was really nice with an amazing view. The bed linen a little bit old but overall a good experience. The location is on a hill so if you have plenty of luggages is really hard to get there also with tuk tuk. The owner and his wife were really nice helped us with everything, also with train tickets. You have acces to a kitchen and fridge so it is really nice.
- a small problem the owner took us 400 rupes to get to the train station but the real price was 250 rupes

I liked the place and it's location; it was soo nice for it's price. it was clean, comfy and the owners were soo welcoming and friendly. they really made our experience amazing in Kandy
We paid in dollars and the owner gives us the change with desrtoyed 25dollars. we couldn't change it or buy anything with. Please always check your dollars because in every place they don't accept dollars with the tiniest fault.

Quiet guesthouse nestled among green hills, the best place away from noise to spend the night or relax. Great view from the balcony or from the roof, cleanliness and comfort in the room.
The family that runs it are lovely helpful people who are ready to help in the right situation, thank you so much!

They were extremely accommodating and allowed us to check in early. The service was exceptional as well. Very friendy and care couple. The view is amazing from the bed and livingroom. Would definitely send a friend there.

property was clean and view outside was amazing
the approach was horrible. when asked to the owner of my 10 seated van could come comfortably he said yes but in reality it was quite difficult also the owner while explaining the address to our driver spoke extremely rudely. He didn’t even offer us water when we came in instead cribbed about us being late to checkin. The owner did not even control his dogs one of the dogs peed on our bag which was disgusting. No hospitality at all.

We had a wonderful stay with very friendly and warm hosts, who cooked delicious breakfasts (stringhoppers!) and meals, too. The view was stunning, the rooms spacious and clean. The owner even has a tuk tuk, so it was easy to get around when needed.
