I love that it’s historic and uniquely designed.
The concierge when checking in was not sure about pretty much anything but was nice.

Location .
The room was freezing cold , no tv , bathroom door didn’t close , bathroom too cold to have a shower , no coffee making facilities . More motel than hotel . Definitely not boutique and overpriced .

The location of our room gave us a nice side door to go in/out to car/parking. The look and feel of entrance to hotel nice.
There were multiple outlets and one bathroom light did not work in our room. The bathroom door would not completely close. The lounge/bar closed at 9pm and not able to book dinner there. The breakfast was disappointing, since out of items/coffee and severely limited choices.

Hotel is short walking distance from shops and restaurants.
We could sense a major drop in service and attitude when management was not present. The hired help seemed either lazy or non-caring.

Location couldn’t be beat, clean, simple but very nice.
It was so loud in the room. You could hear everything going on above, below and on both sides. The noise wasn’t because people were being loud, you could just hear every time someone got out of bed, walked down the hall, or talked quietly.

A very elegant, historic site. Lots of character; great restaurant and bar. Staff is cordial and efficient. Within walking distance of shops and attractions. Great continental breakfast.

Quiet, historical, beautiful setting, tastefully decorated, featured original art from local artists throughout, personalized welcome note from the manager, pleasant staff

Old hotel setting and reception. Breakfast was good too. But the main reason i chose the hotel was the location (Black Mountain) and it didnt disappoint. Small town with lovely people. Great place to stay if you are travelling to see the Grandfather mountains early in the morning.
Floors are a bit creeky so might cause trouble for people living directly below your rooms.

The people, the food, the location, the vibe, the peacefulness - all wonderful. This is a favorite hotel of mine!
I miss the funky, downstairs speakeasy-type bar. 😉
And be prepared for some noise - creaky floors and water pipes.

The Monte Vista gives you the great combination of being close to anything you need and yet seemingly you’re at a secluded Vermont type B&B….just exceptional all around
