Stardust Corral - 1920's Adobe Home in Marathon TX - Gateway to Big Bend NP!
About this house rental
Welcome home to the Stardust Corral. This Wonderfully updated home is located in Marathon, Texas - the gateway to Big Bend National Park. The 1920's adobe home has been lovingly restored as a West Texas retreat with modern amenities. 2 Bedrooms / 1 Bathrooms / Horse Corral. With open roads leading to breathtaking mountain landscapes and endless peace and solitude, Marathon is the perfect place to unwind for a calming escape. Best of all, the high desert climate means that warm and sun-kissed days drift into cool nights enjoyed under a blanket of stars. At the Stardust Corral, you'll enjoy unobstructed views of the Del Norte-Santiago range to the west and south and magnificent west Texas sunsets. From the back patio, you're looking west into the setting sun right at the Del Norte-Santiago range, including Cathedral Mountain and Elephant Mountain. The Glass Mountains are visible to the north. This thoughtfully designed, unique retreat is the perfect launchpad for visiting Big Bend National Park, Marfa, Terlingua, Alpine, and Fort Davis. The home is decorated and furnished to be a vacation rental and is all on one level with a total of 1,350-square feet. In the kitchen you'll find all the comforts of home. From updated appliances to dinnerware, flatware and glassware to an array of gadgets & gizmos you'll need to whip up something special. You'll also find your morning wake up cure in the kitchen with a Keurig-brand coffee maker stocked with all the fixings! The home does not have WiFi nor television (that's not why you come here). What it lacks in digital entertainment it makes up for with a horse corral (yes, there is a 1-acre fenced horse corral for your use). It's a real treat to watch the horses from the backyard while the sun sets over the mountains. For your convenience, there is a laundry area with a full sized washer & dryer, laundry & cleaning supplies. Your non-aggressive dogs are welcome at the Stardust Corral. An additional charge of $125 per dog per stay is required for guests that would like to bring dogs. Dogs should have a kennel or crate if they are left alone in the home. The backyard is fully fenced for them also. Guests have full access to all rooms of the home and property. There is one owners closet with our personal items that we keep locked from guests. ***One of the quirks of the house, which dates back to the 1920's but has been expanded several times, is that the only bathroom is located in one of the bedrooms. This means that guests in the other bedroom will need to walk through the master bedroom in order to get to the bathroom.*** Also noteworthy is that we are on a rural power grid. That means that we experience the occasional power cut when storms are in the larger region or at the peak of the day during summer months. Rest assured, it has always turned back on within a couple of hours. If you use medical equipment please keep this in mind and have a back up power source. We have a strict NO SMOKING policy in this home. You are welcome to smoke outside, but please be extremely careful about wildfire risk. West Texas is a wild place. Our neighbors include horses, cattle, and goats. But you really need to be aware of the wild animals such as deer, javelina, skunks, rattle snakes, and fox. PLEASE EXERCISE CAUTION AND GOOD SENSE when it comes to livestock and wild animals. Please watch your children and know that wild animals are wild animals. If your kids or dogs will be playing outside, please watch out for snakes, especially on warm sunny days in the fall and winter. You have been warned! Having said that, it’s a fascinating symphony of wildlife to watch. You are welcome to use the fire pit in the back yard - if there is NO wind and NO BURN BAN for Brewster County - and only after you have examined your conscience and have determined you do know what you are doing. City slickers without experience building and managing a fire should leave the fire pit alone. Please DO NOT use PAPER to get it started as it'll fly around and could spark a fire in the surrounding brush. There is a hose bib and water hose just south of the house that you can use to douse the fire before bed. Please remember you are visiting the desert and it will burn very quickly. The home and property is available for commercial use at a special rate - please contact us prior to booking if you'd like to use the home for photo or video shoots or commercial events.

The house is very neat and was perfect for our overnight stay to see Marathon. We really enjoyed playing the albums on the record player! The only bath being in one bedroom could be a little awkward if you aren't with close friends, but we didn't mind.

We rent a lot of properties on VRBO and I am diligent in my research. This place was such a pleasant surprise. I did not have huge expectations given the selection available around Big Bend and so happy we found this property. Well decorated, everything we needed and larger than expected. Big bend is a drive regardless, so do yourself a favor, take the extra time and stay here!

The house was exactly as listed. We enjoyed the large porch out front and petting the friendly horses out back. The place was spotless, clean and comfy, and filled with local treasures, decor, and literature. The stars at night were heavenly. Our stay was short, but seems you could walk to the little town easily. Recommend!

Nice and clean, very roomy, full kitchen equipment,
heating and cooling very good, Bathroom a nice size. nice towels,
comfortable beds, very nice front porch. Live horses
placed statically in a fenced area behind the house.
No notice of location of the lock box. Lock box is not noticeable behind the carport post. Neighbor helped with location of lock box.
The telephone number of the local contact would be helpful.
Backyard needs a little grooming.

It was blazing hot outside but we stayed comfortable inside. The place is cute, beds were comfortable and it has a covered parking spot which was much appreciated. We also enjoyed lots of birds and wildlife. The only downside was four adults and one bathroom, but we made it work.

This property looks modest from the outside, but don’t let that deter you. Step into a converted adobe building that has, true to its listing, been “lovingly restored.” The first thing you notice is the beautiful, foot square ceramic tiles on the floors throughout. There are two great bedrooms, a living area and a roomy kitchen with everything you will need. As noted, the only bathroom is through one bedroom, but that wasn’t an issue for a couple. Although it is a drive from Big Bend NP, the comfort of these digs more than compensates. You couldn’t do much better than this .

Great place to explore the Big Bend region
We stayed at this property in order to explore Big Bend and the surrounding region. Marathon is a wonderful little town itself, and it also provides great access to the parks, Marfa, Alpine, Ft Davis, etc. The property was super clean and well stocked. The property management staff communicated fast and took care of our every need. My only complaint is that the appliances aren't very good. They look cute and 'retro" but the oven cooks terribly and the refrigerator is small and items in the fridge get frozen. Aside from that, we loved everything about the place and would stay there again. Thanks!

The Perfect Stepping Stone
This house was the perfect stepping stone for our journey west and to Big Bend. It's close proximity to the main street of Marathon was ideal for taking advantage of all of the town's amenities. The house was very clean, stylish and an excellent way to relax from day excursions while still being totally immersed in the beautiful West Texas landscape. The retro styling of the appliances, the Johnny Cash album on the record player, the monogrammed cups, the fire pit next to the horses stable, and of course, the starlit night sky, make this little gem of a house, the ideal launching pad for any West Texas getaway. Thank you for the great stay!!!! -David

"It Doesn't Get it Better Than This..."
Tranquil, comfortable, and a short pleasant walk to town. We loved sitting on the front porch in the evening to watch the stars come out and dining out back to watch the sunset and frolicking horses. We also liked the retro style fridge and toaster and appreciated the information on Big Bend, the horses names, etc. My wife's cousin said her late mother would say, "It doesn't get better than this ..."
