I have stayed at the Claremont several times over the past few years, and I usually have no complaints. But my check in experience during this last stay left a lot to be desired. I arrived for check in late (I believe around 11 p.m.) and had paid for the room in advance. Because I didn't have a physical credit card on me, I attempted to put the incidentals on my digital credit card (of which I had three). The front desk staff informed me that the system was not accepting them for some reason, and asked me to fill out a form, which I did. The first card/form also was declined. I filled out a second form, which also was declined. Then I was told to contact my credit card directly and there was nothing the hotel could do for me, which I did. 30 minutes later after getting a response from the credit card company that there was in fact a hold on my card from the hotel, I asked the front desk what I can do next. The person at the desk tried again and lo and behold my card was accepted. Meanwhile, I saw at least four holds on my card from the hotel. Yet, instead of double-checking and triple-checking your system, I was made to feel like the problem was on my end. It took me about 40 minutes to be able to check in and access my room closer to midnight. All in all, it was a very unpleasant start to my stay, and even though I am a member, I will not be returning any time soon.

We had a wonderful time at the Claremont!!
From check in to check out. Service was absolutely impeccable.
The room was comfortable
The restaurant and cafe were fantastic.
Thank you for all your warmth and kindness Effie! You are a big part of why we’ll be back!

The hotel itself is beautiful, historic, they have made some great updates. The beds were very comfortable, amazing pillows. We were on the backside towards the hills. The bathroom was freezing. Old windows and drafty. The light in the shower flicker on and off.
Meal wise, we had great room service. The breakfast the next morning threw us as it was a brunch only menu. We had hoped to pick a la carte options which were not available from the main menu. What we did order was good however.

My daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren (8,10) have stayed at the Claremont each time they’ve come to Berkeley from Spoken. This time the were “wowed” by the spacious Jr. Suite I booked for them. And the marble-floored bathroom! Kiddos swam morning & night; family hit tennis balls for an hour with loaner gear; hotel staff were gracious & helpful. Fabulous get-away! Five Star!

Beautiful property. Friendly staff. Room was clean and modern. Dining in both the restaurant and cafe were great. Service & food! Will plan to stay here again in my next visit to the area.

I did not like the massage. Neither did my husband.
I think the massage people need to be re-evaluated.

The Claremont is a beautiful historic property with many different views of the Bay. There really isn’t any place like it. Stay if you can.

Overall, a marvelous experience including dinner at Limewood. Morning lobby coffee from 4-6AM could be extended. Evening champagne toast could be extended beyond just a few minutes. Club/spa area is excellent! All staff very welcoming and effective.

Always amazing.

Beautiful hotel. Tried to get our car from the valet and the wait was over an hour because they had two events going on so we had to pay for an uber instead. Poor planning on the hotel's behalf.
Bed linens were cheap and thin. I was cold and had a terrible sleep.

Nice hotel, great chef, unfortunately for us it was a bit disappointing with our check in. We sent emails before our arrival, called the same day bc we needed check in earlier. At the end we couldn’t and it was past 4pm and our room were ready….

The room I had no windows

The food was way below par for dinner. The rib eye was half grisel.
The staff wouldn’t seat us out on the balcony for lunch, for reasons unknown. It had two parties seated with a lot of empty tables.
The pool area fire pits were broken and no food served outside.

Room service breakfast not so good. The app does not allow for many a la carte options - very inflexible. Worse, I got a large bowl of runny bland oatmeal - no texture, no honey, pathetic “granola”, had to add fruit on the side. The bill was $47!! Look to the 4 Seasons or Ritz Carlton for guidance.
Finally, the hotel lobby smells terrible.

The room had hair everywhere, not clean. Service was very poor and very slow.

Nicely updated interior and rooms. Unbelievably oversold at hotel restaurant (this premium expensive glass of wine when asked for house cab). Also, in room dining was the worst I’ve had. Flatbread tasted like frozen pizza. Salad not much better. Would stay again for rooms but wouldn’t spend a dime on dining.

Room was undersized with a view of the air conditioning. The bed was a twin bed while we were promised and bought a king size bed. We’ve stayed here many times. Never again.

The hotel and rooms have a strange smell. Otherwise it’s very nice.

The Claremont is consistently terrific: great service, a lovely restuarant, and fabulous amenities if you choose to use them. Highly recommend.

The amenities are fantastic with access to the club house for tennis, swimming and their locker rooms.

Great staff, but truthfully a little run down, especially in light of what you’re paying. Room service was awful and expensive - bagel was old and stale (they did refund me).

We loved our stay at The Claremont! It is a historic hotel that has been completely updated. It's beautiful & chic inside. So convenient to UC Berkeley campus too. It happened to be my husbands birthday and they surprised us with a room upgrade and a beautiful cake in the room when we arrived. The check in person was lovely. We had brunch at the Limewood, which was so delicious. We didn't want to leave!

Perfect, romantic, great views, great health club with free fitness classes for guests (we did 2), swimming, jacuzzi. Cafe and restaurant both great. Definitely will come back.

Best thing about the place is the view. Otherwise, super overpriced for what it is. It’s fine: clean, safe, quiet, but not a luxury experience. The restaurant bad (watered down drinks, super salty and dry pork chop served with several pieces of squash that cost $45 and took about an hour to arrive after ordering) and very overpriced. Again, the view and champagne were enough to (almost) justify being there. Overall, I felt the value was lacking.

A fun spot, definitely a country club vibe. But lots of charm as well!

To start with, there is the surprise facility free of $45, which was not hinted at in any of the online ads or on the Claremont website. (Expedia take note: you are furthering this misreprentation!) Then, there was the pervasive price gouging. We dined at nice restaurants around town, but the most expensive meal we had was a modest lunch at the hotel. The room was meh. The shades wouldn't come up (supposedly our room had a view) and the bathroom door wouldn't close all the way. Don't know if we'll stay there again.

Beautiful facility! Be sure to take the tour!
Person that checked us in was very homophobic, she repeatedly suggested that we shouldn’t sleep in the same bed!

The only food/drink closed at 10:30 except for Fri/Sat - turned away numerous guests.
