Our stay at the Gates hotel was amazing! The hotel and our room was very clean. The staff was friendly and very helpful when we needed them.
The location of the hotel was perfect for what we were looking for. Just a 2 minute walk down to the beach, a 5-10 minute walk if you wanted the hotels free beach loungers. There is also plenty of restaurants and nightlife nearby, a short walk or 2 minute uber ride away.
The Ola restaurant attached to the hotel is very good. We ate there for breakfast and lunch one day... They have lot's of good food and drink options, and it is delicious!
I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking to book in South Beach Miami.

The welcome of the hotel is extremely poor, dark and uninviting.
The rooms are small and have an office feel rather than a hotel.
Rooms do not get cleaned. I had to call several times to get the room replenished.
Hotel does not feel like it's usual Hilton/DoubleTree standards

Hotel is a solid less expensive option in south beach. Beds are comfortable, bathroom is clean, but it’s not a hotel you will dream about staying at again. Perfectly suitable for a work trip or a vacation where you don’t plan to be in your room much. One super annoying thing is there are not enough elevators, only 2 for each side of the hotel, so wait times for elevators is something you have to be ok with.

The dorm room I shared with 5 guys in college had a cleaner shower. The lighting in the hotel room is those horrible ultra white light bulbs. The staff said our room wasn’t ready at check in and then said if you pay $150 you can check in early… so is it ready or not? Any decent hotel lets you check in early if the room is ready. Lastly, there is no security in the hotel. Anyone can walk into the elevator and go to any floor - no one checking room keys and you don’t need need to swipe your key to go up the elevator.

We choose this hotel after staying there a year earlier. The room they put us in the first time was nice.
When I booked this hotel again I sent a message saying we would be checking in from a cruise on the 12 Feb 24, around 930 am in the morning. When we checked in they said there check in was 4pm pm and they had a room available but it would cost us $100 to go into it early! What!! Told them no thank you and they held our luggage till later. We left and went to the beach and I got a message around 2pm, telling me the room was available.
We didn’t get back to the hotel till well after 530 since we were out and about all day.
Now during the night we used the toilet . We didn’t flush as to not wake up anyone-the toilet is extremely loud. At 700am I went to the bathroom again, and tried to flush the toilet it did not flush. I went to brush my teeth and no water . I went to call the front desk, room phone did not work.
I used my cell phone and called them . They sent someone up to fix phone-didnt work.
They said they notified the city and its a pressure issue and it would be working in less than an hour. Hours and hours passed. Tons of people complained. Only gave resort fee back. Water came back on around 6-7pm. Rooms were not ready for new people who checked in. Tons waited in lobby for hours with all of their luggage. People who had Super bowl parties to go to also complained stating how do we get ready, have sunscreen and sand all over. Need to be in a suit/tux!

Front staff inept. Bad experience with recent “linked” reservation.

I would have given a higher rating to Gates Hotel, but the "free" breakfast wasn't free...and it didn't even taste that good.
We were expecting an on-site breakafast, as in other hotels we stayed at, but were instead given vouchers for the restaurant next door. Once there, we only had 3 options: fruit platter, oatmeal, or a standard 2-egg breakfast. The food was ok but not great.
But what I found tacky was when the server brought us the bill holder with a note that read "Tips!!" and a smiley face. We had not tipped the first time so they wanted us to know we should. I found this absurd given that our hotel advertised breakfast as "included" and charged a resort fee. Plus, we had minimal choice in what we could eat. The server even joked that serving hotel guests was "easy" because the voucher meals were predictable.
To American business owners: Can you please pay your staff properly so they don't have to survive on tips? Benefitting from slave labour is not cool. Thanks.

Hello,
I would like to let you know that the front door never locked properly. The sink tap was broken and going along with the shower tap as well. If you didn’t close the front door and press it hard and put the extra lock on the door would not close automatically I have told management at the hotel to come and help fix the situation. They said they would and when I got back to the room nothing was actually replaced or fixed and I wasn’t able to switch rooms as well so I do have a bit of an issue on how much I paid for the week of being there for four nights, and I do would like some compensation. Thank you.

We had a one stay here. The water stopped working in the entire hotel. While I fully understand things happen, the hotel staff however offered NO help to accommodate us. We were a party of 4 females and we had a flight to catch that evening. This was a awful experience and I would never recommend anyone to stay here. The front desk staff including the site manager had no customer service skills or remorse for the inconvenience.
Expedia on the other hand, did as much as they could to offer assistance. However, they couldn’t do much because the hotel refused to help.

Property is well located. On site restaurant is not the best however plenty others bearby. Staff are friendly. Pool area is small and does become crowded.

The hotel is really nice, it has fun daily activities and it smells really nice in the hotel. One of the nights they had an art show in the lobby with live DJ. Also perfectly situated with the ocean right across the street.

I loved that the main floor had a guest area to play pool, sit at the table on your laptop, a bar area, lounge around if you like, or just get in the pool. The Gates Hotel had a huge gym with everything you need in it such as towels, water & headphones.

Wonderful location, nice property. Near the water, I think this is one of the best choices if someone wants to stay in South Beach.

room persistently noisy, 45 dba, 8th floor! my wife got a headache and could not sleep. service response poor!
we were told that the entire 8th floor had a noise problem caused by the air-conditioning unit.

Free parking. And more dining in the area. Valet was very expensive!!

Property location was great! Our room however was not! We on 3rd floor and had a view of the building next to us. So much that there wasn’t even light in room! There was no point to even have a window. That was extremely disappointing
But the hotel and staff was very nice
3.0
No removal of mattresses poolside when raining, leaving them wet the whole day. Seemed understaffed.

Location location, location! Close enough to enjoy the Miami hype but far enough to head to a quiet space at night. The staff were amazing! I loved that the room included beach chairs and towels at the beach.
