Nice big private room with great sized bathroom. Liked the room itself and the giant stairwell. Unfortunately, thats were the positives end. Kitchen is way too small for the amount of people staying there. During my stay, there was a blocked sink. Which was left blocked for two straight days. Whilst the whole area was constantly dirty. Not enough storage areas for food bags which lead to food bags being piled on-top of each other. The common room, well if you can call it that! Is 6 dirty sofas arranged in rows looking at a TV which isn't particularly sociable. Or you could sit in reception! There is no wall separating this 'tv common room' area with the kitchen, so you're constantly getting an extremely loud TV over the sound of people trying to cook. The reviews from my friends about the dorm rooms were not good either

Central location close to transport from the airport and the venue I was attending. A good budget option with all the facilities I needed.

A good price and a great location. Really disappointed with the facilities. Only one working toilet on my floor which was soon disgusting. Broken toilets on all other floors too.

They upgraded me to a better room with a an ensuite toilet & shower for my 2nd day. 1st day flight was cancelled & was not able to check in early for the 2nd day. Was a let down but the upgrade was kinda great deal to me. Kudos to them!

Good value for money in a very convenient area. Would happily stay again.

Filthy bathroom w. blocked drain in the shower. Claustrophobic rooms with no ventilation. Terrible value for money.

Towles had holes in them and stains. While showering the drain was blocked so had to be fast. They did leave a chocolate on the bed on arrival which was nice. Other than the cleanliness bed was comfy and they had a smart tv which was a bonus!

The stay was okay for a private room but below average. The showers do not drain well so your at risk of flooding the bathroom floor within 2 minutes of showering which is annoying. The rooms are dated and dont have tvs or aircon either. They have a gloomy feel to them. No appliances but they do have a shared kitchen. The bed was very springy and soft too. The staff asked me to pay the cost of the booking on arrival and presented me with the card machine too, but i refused stating I was sure id paid via expedia - to which I was right about they then agreed. This should be checked by staff however as had I not known id been charged and paid, Id never have been wiser or got a refund. Good location though, easy access from the airport and they can advise you on things to do in the city. Plenty of backpackers here.

I'm not used to bunk rooms but that was not an issue. Room mates came and went quietly and respected others' needs.

Didn’t have high hopes as my previous stay in March was pretty hit and miss. Filthy room which STUNK of body odour. Room had clearly not been cleaned in some time. Didn’t feel safe using the room for anything more than sleeping (ie. Couldn’t shower), and was stuck down at reception. Would have checked out immediately if I had a refundable booking. Reception were unable to assist but noted my concerns. There are some significantly better hostels in Wellington City, and I can personally recommend The Dwellington, The Marion, and Trek Global

Location is great, but everything else needs to be improved.

While the staff themselves were very friendly and well presented, the condition of the property itself was a glaring difference. Covid has not been kind to this establishment. The housekeeping could dramatically benefit from extra members, the facilities desperately require attention to correct various states of disrepair and every single toilet requires toilet brushes. Overall, if you are looking for a place that reflects the saying "You get what you pay for" in the extreme, then you will certainly find it here. Best as a short term option for travelers on a tight budget.

It was a hostel, no conplaints however the office lady was a bit lazy and didnt really help me

I didnt like that i had contacted them prior to booking and was told that they had parking and then when i arrive for check in, i was told no parking and had to pay. Also reception was rude, like they didnt even wanna work there. Was poor experience overall

かなりうるさくても寝られますが、金曜日・土曜日の周りのパブのうるささには驚きました。あれだとなかなか寝られないと思います。宿泊客もそのパブに行っていたからか、廊下で大声を出したり、夜中の2時でもだいぶうるさかったです。バックパッカーなので静かで快適な事は期待していませんが、ビックリしました。たぶん、窓側の部屋やパブに隣接している部屋だけでなく、このバックパッカーズ全ての部屋がうるさく感じていたと思います。バックパッカーズに泊まっているのですから文句はないです。スタッフはとても親切で気を使ってくれ、気持ち良く滞在する事ができました。バックパッカーズの中ではかなり良い方だと思います。

I loved the location of the back packers. Unfortunately being Wellington parking is always an issue. Loved the fact that this facility offers a free meal every night (even though I didn’t participate). Love that there is a student bar attached to the facility ( unfortunately it had a private e function on this time). Negatives I experienced was no remote or way to turn on the tv in our room. Only provided with two towels and no floor towel. The shower drain was blocked and I had to remove the drain grill to insure I didn’t flood the bathroom.

For me it was far too hot and stuffy in the room especially on the top bunk

Kitchen dirty and messy. Bad wifi. Bed matress covered by some plastic. The door and the airconditioner in the room had a lot of noise, especially diaturbing in the night! Friendly staff. Good shower. Location central, but it was A bit confusing to find it in the dark evening.

We stayed over the Christmas period. Our en suite private room was clean, big and bright. However, multiple staff members couldn’t answer our questions about the Christmas meal at the bar (including what time it was) despite lots of advertising for it. Free pancake breakfast you have to cook yourself. Didn’t expect to have to pay for WiFi when you pay for a private room. Kitchen is small for the size of the hostel and needs updating.
