Awesome hotel, with phenomenal views of the Charles

Beautiful hotel but failed to tell us there would be bands playing in the lobby both Friday and Saturday nights past 1 am- we've been pretty loyal Marriott people but never again at this one-

The Liberty was a great place to stay. Conveniently located next to Mass. Gen., restaurants and shopping. Everyone was so polite and helpful.

i thought the shared spaces in this hotel were really cute & unique. When we arrived there was a DJ in the lobby that was so loud, we could not even hear the person checking us in. The rooms, albeit small, were well appointment, however our view was of an office building. I had called ahead to ask that slippers be in the room and when arrived, at almost midnight (due to late flight), they were not there so we had to wait to have them delivered, which was already very late. In addition, we would have liked to have eaten at the hotel restaurants, but the menu for breakfast was very limited & quite expensive. I did not want a HUGE breakfast, just eggs & toast & that was not on the menu. The most frustrating for us was the "resort fee" they tacked on when we left. 1) this is NOT a resort, this was a hotel in the middle of the city. 2) if they want more money for the reservation, they should just change the price, I would have appreciated the TRUE price from the beginning. 3)lastly, the "resort fee" included the microscopic home gym that not only had broken equipment, but had a FIVE person max capacity. We were a party of 3, which meant if other people were in there,we could not use it at the same time, which meant we had to stagger our workouts, which meant we had to wait until we were ALL done to go & enjoy Boston.
when we checked in we would have appreciated being told about the "resort fee" including lobby activities, we were with a minor so not eligible to partake

My stay was wonderful.

Room was really nice. Bathroom was very relaxing and had great lighting. The shower door was a little janky as it didnt close all that well, but it was sufficient enough i guess. I did the job. I was a little taken aback when i returned to the hotel later in the evening to practically finding a club scene in full swing in the lobby! The music was REALLY loud, people were talking and laughing also very loudly. It was a little difficult navigating throughout the bodies that were dancing to get to the elevators to go to my room. I was on a higher floor so the sound wasn't able to be heard thankfully. Room service was really nice. Although, the options aren't that great with few to choose from it was decent. Would think twice about staying again. Especially when they charge you $71.00 for valet parking. Its absurd!

I only live about 8 miles away from the Liberty, but have stayed there on two separate occasions in the last several months. The rooms are comfortable, well appointed, and many have nice views of the city and Charles River. There’s a great bar area, and I’ve eaten in all the restaurants there…the food options are delicious. The only small drawback is the plumbing seems slow/clogged…not to a terrible degree but in both rooms I had I noticed slow drainage in the bathroom sinks. The room I had a few months ago was quite sluggish and the staff worked immediately to correct it when I mentioned it. Last night I did not notify the staff about it because it was minor. The shower and tub was fine so overall no complaints.

Wonderful historic hotel with several bars and restaurants on the property. Beautiful lobby with many spaces to hang out, have a drink, people watch. Saturday night had vibrant night life with a DJ and a busy bar scene (which didn’t affect us at all in our room - was entirely quiet). Highly recommend to stay here!

The rooms were not ready at 4 and 5pm. We were told that some people had priority and they could check out basically whenever. I’m not sure what the point of reservations are if you can not get into your room until basically nighttime. Beds were not comfortable. Couch leather was peeling. Just a bit grimey? It’s a hotel that hasn’t been updated since it opened, 10, 20 years ago now?

We had three rooms for our family – our first room smelled like cigarettes and the bathroom had cigarette ashes on the floor. We changed our room to 713. My 13-year-old son was in 722 but the key would not work. We tried 4 times making new keys and each time the door would not unlock. Each time I would get new keys, come down to the front desk and return with a set of keys that did not work. Finally a housekeeper walked by and offered to open the door. Our new room in 713 had plumbing issues with the toilet water coming up without even flushing it. I asked the front desk to fix this while we were out shopping. When we returned in the afternoon around 3pm – our room was cleaned but the toilet was overflowing with brown water from the plumbing. Andrew was on duty and apologized profusely and offered to move us to 806. That room was better, and the plumbing worked. Believe it or not – the heating did not work which we found out when we went to bed – unless you maxed it out to 80 degrees and it would come on for 5 minutes. We called the front desk and they sent up two thin blankets.

Beautiful hotel, lots going on both inside and out and a welcoming glass of champagne poured for you at check in.

Visually arresting hotel. A must see. Nice enough that you don’t need to go anywhere else. First class property in a one of a kind setting. You’d think you were in Charleston or Nashville. Not a few feet from mass general. The boys in the old Charles street jail never had it this good. I’m sure.

We love this hotel. It is in a great area, practically on the Charles. T access across the street. We love that it is an old jail, and we love coming at holiday time with the beautiful trees hanging from the ceiling in the lobby. My only complaint this time was how warm the place was, the heat could have been turned down at least 5 degrees in the lobby/bar area. The temperature in our room showed 78 degrees with the heat turned off, and the AC did not work (probably because they didn’t think it would be needed in December)

I had pre-paid for my stay over the weekend of Oct. 28th and 29th. I paid through Expedia, yet the hotel charged me as well. It has been a week and I am still waiting on my refund. No one seems to know what is happening and I have yet to receive a phone call back. There was too much confusion with the wrist bands for the party. It was just to much confusion and the staff did not even know about certain events, ie: Barbie Brunch.

Overall a very nice stay. However, there was a VIP party on Saturday 28th October which we had not been made aware of. All seating in the main lobby and the gallery above was reserved for party guests so the regular hotel guests had nowhere to sit!!

Amazing hotel and staff

Overall the place is good. Walkable distance to prominent spots and transportation. Impressive architecture and surroundings. Unique history about how jail turned into a hotel. However, there are minor things that discount the experience a lot. Cleaning lady left the trash bags in my suitcase. Staff didn’t return my laundry on time and I had to make several phone calls to get my clothes back. Water drains slowly in the bath tub. Hair found on unused bath towel. Very loud party lasts through midnight, which means no way to sleep even with earplugs on.

The property itself was beautiful, especially the restaurant Alibi. The staff were excellent and service was impeccable. The actual hotel room was humid and there was minimal ventilation. This is especially problematic when showering as there is no fan.

You need to replace the mattress & box spring on king size bed. It was very uncomfortable.

The room is small , no closet to hang clothes / coats , no hangers . The bed is so hard , pillows are hard and very uncomfortable , worst of all , their comforter is so thin that it didn’t provide any comfort to sleep at night . I expected more and then some specially paying a room for over $700/ night .’ Didn’t meet my expectation at all .T.V. doesn’t work , either it’s the T.V channels per se and or the remote control , I did not bother to call the front desk to complain about it because it seems petty but with the other complaints I have I would highly unlikely stay here again .

The high price versus quality of the room were not appropriate. The air conditioning in the room was loud and too cold or too warm. The room was too small for suitcases of two persons. Only one chair for two persons. Well equipped was the bathroom, however the shower was not working well. We will not return to this hotel in the future.
