The only to thing going for this hotel is the decor of the rooms, which is really interesting and of high quality. Other than that, this isn't a five star hotel experience. The first room we were given felt more like a basement room as it was so dark. We found blood on one of our cushions, the shower didn't work, the outdoor pool area was in neglect - the pool wasn't clean, and wasn't cleaned during our stay. The airport transfer was nearly 1000 rand (we think it would 200 on Uber). When I asked for a bottle water at 2230I was told that the bar had closed so having some water wasn't possible until the morning (in the end, the receptionist found a bottle of water behind the reception desk). The spa is well done, but unfortunately the time we picked to go, was during load shedding, so the indoor pool and jacuzzi were tepid, and the steam room and sauna not possible to use. We understand the reasons for load shedding but would have appreciated if the hotel had told us in advance of the load shedding time, or even on arrival at the spa. Not after when we had changed, and ready to use the spa facilities. So all in all, disappointing experience and think some areas of the hotel need a bit more TLC.

I'd always wanted to stay at Fairlawns, it's beautiful. The staff were kind when they serve you however they weren't always easy to catch. The rooms are grand and spacious. The birds wake up around 2am and chirp until about 5am so if you're a light sleeper you might find it difficult to get the zzzz's. Luckily for us we have many birds at home however they chirp from 4am-5am.

The booking started off very badly, when we arrived they had no record of the booking made through booking.com. After 10 minutes they found it in there spam folder.
The room was not ready that they gave us, empty beer cans in the cupboard.
Then the TV remote did not work and the person to fix it was not on site.
I insisted we move rooms which they agreed.
Thereafter the stay was fine. They coped our dinner to apologise.

Fairlawns is a beautifully appointed luxury boutique hotel set amongst extensive gardens. It is hard to believe that you are close to the bustling Sandton shopping and business areas - but you are! It is luxury all the way, from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave. A warm towel and fresh juice welcomes you at reception. You are escorted to your room and the room's amenities are explained to you. The staff are courteous and well trained. Our room was large and stately. The bathroom too. French Provincial style. The pool area is great for relaxing and the patio is a lovely shaded area where you can enjoy a glass of wine or a meal. Breakfast is served on the patio. We had dinner arrangements so did not dine in the restaurant - Amuse Bouche - but it looked lovely! Next time!

When I checked in, having booked and receiving confirmation via Expedia, the hotel had no such record. The check in manager was not exactly the friendliest chap and asked me for the rate quoted, which I thought was hardly professional. When I complained post my stay, with the email received from Expedia, I was promised a refund, after waiting ten days nothing was forthcoming. This left a pretty bad taste in my mouth. Other than that, the hotel is beautiful, the room was not what I had booked via the Expedia website (it was not even in the system) and lucky for us there was a room available. The reservations staff offered a refund, but that never came.

I fly for a living and stayed at hotels all over the world. This hotel is hands down one of the best in every regard and in the top 1% of anything if ever seen. I joked that it made the Four Seasons look like a Howard Johnson. But it is easily on par or above Four Seasons in every regard.... And the staff has pride in their hotel and it shows. Highly recommended. Also, fantastic gym and spa. Call them to have airport transportation ready and waiting. Hope to return.

Fairlawns exceeded our expectations. A truly magnificent boutique hotel in beautiful setting. The French styled chateau buildings are the real thing - exceptionally well built and fitted out.
The staff went out of their way to make our stay a memorable experience and I would thoroughly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a peaceful and and relaxing stay.

The Fairlawns Sandton Hotel was a gratifying experience. The rooms are large, each one is themed (mine was Louis XV themed) with large bathrooms, nice ammenities and superb service. The hotel is in a calm and quiet place of Sandton, albeit a bit away from Sandtons commercial zone, however, the hotel (at my time of stay) would drive you into Sandtons center. The food was good, the people really attentive. Would definitely stay again
